Sanctioned Vintage returns to Scholars' on Saturday December 7th.  Our Monday Night Sanctioned Events have been growing, but many people are unable to make it on a week night.  This weekend event will allow those players the chance to battle with the best cards in Magic for fantastic prizes.  If these continue to be successful, we'll continue to do them.

As with all our sanctioned event, the highest finishing Unpowered Deck* will receive a prize, so the value is insane.  Unpowered players are in the running for the highest unpowered prize, as well as the regular prize pool.  This event is the Unpowered player's best value ever.  With a larger field than our Monday Tournaments, a Top 8 will mean more prizes to more players.

If you want to take part in a hugely fun and unique Vintage event, but don't have power, brew something new, or go ahead and take your Legacy deck, makes some tweeks and have a blast.  Merfolk, Goblins and RUG have put up amazing results, and Elves picks up goodies like Skullclamp.  However you do it, it's an awesome time.

What do the prizes look like?  How does massive payouts of Store Credit, with an option to take cash as well?

I'll be there with a sick selection of the goodness you need to keep up your rep as a formidable spell slinger.

For those of you who don't know Scholars:

Scholars has been supporting Vintage in New England for as long as I can remember.  They are the site of my first Vintage tournament (I was playing with Miracle Grow in 2001)

Located at:
Scholar's Bookstore
34 Central Sq
Bridgewater, MA
Phone: (508) 279-1712

Google Maps Directions

Ample parking in rear.

$30 entry fee
zero proxy sanctioned Vintage
Noon Registration.  Starting promptly at 12:30.

I am always buying or trading for any and all cards – turn your unwanted cards into cash!

*A deck is eligible for the Unpowered Prize if it contains no copies of the following cards:

Ancestral Recall
Time Walk
Timetwister
Black Lotus
Mox Emerald
Mox Ruby
Mox Pearl
Mox Sapphire

I shall also whoop and be there.

BONUS ACTION!

We're offering a Modern Masters Draft using my Modern Masters Cube.  This is 6 of every Common, 3 of each Uncommon, 2 of each Rare and 1 of each Mythic randomized to create packs of 15 cards and replicate the experience of drafting Modern Masters.  It will fire as soon as we get 8 players, and may fire more than once on the day.  Entry will be 15 (more if the players want) and payout will be credit equal to entries towards my trade stock, which is rather extensive as of late.  My typical stock of Dual Lands, Forces and Vintage Goodness is currently supplemented with cards from all of Magic History.

After missing a bunch of these I'm going to make sure to make it out to this one, no matter the trek. The last time I was there it was a blast.

I had an excellent time as always.
Adrian's list looked absurdly fun, hopefully I can get a hold of it.

It was fun to play, just wish I hadn't punted the semis so bad and on camera to boot!
It was inspired by the mtgo classic lists by Chris Kuel and AJ Goldman:

4 Survival of the Fittest
1 Squee
1 Anger
2 Kalonian Hydra
2 Stormbreath Dragon
1 Mistcutter Hydra
4 Magus of the Moon
1 Scavenging Ooze
1 Gilded Drake
1 Phantasmal Image
1 Hammer Mage
1 Trygon Predator
4 Orcish Lumberjack
3 Birds of Paradise
2 Noble Hierarch
3 Null Rod
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Time Walk
1 Brainstorm
1 Sol Ring
1 Mana Crypt
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Black Lotus
4 Taiga
1 Tropical Island
3 Forest
9 Green Fetch
2 Cavern of Souls

SB:
4 Grafdigger's Cage
1 Hammer Mage
2 Scavenging Ooze
1 Trygon Predator
3 REB/Pyroblast
1 Forest
1 Grim Lavamancer
1 Caldera Hellion
1 Ingot Chewer

To make it unpowered like you mentioned, I'd suggest the following changes:
-move the forest, lavamancer, and an ooze from the board to the main
-cut brainstorm
-add 3 green spirit guides and 1 red one
-swap a hierarch for another bird
-add another REB, null rod and a blood moon to the board

I had a really great time, and my friend who came down with me and was new to Vintage was impressed by how amazingly awesome the community was.

I got to play against the Survival deck for 6 games and while I'm not sold on it quite yet, I wouldn't dismiss it as a contender either. Though I do want to see some Welder->Battleball action in Orcish Survival Razz

Hopefully next time around I'll have a more refined list as I threw mine together the day of, and looking back at it, I really made some silly mistakes in building.

There was, and I imagine it will be up sometime soon....though I haven't heard anything about them doing voice over yet.
