The farm is looking a bit bare these days, but I always prefer the stories where a minor leaguer comes out of nowhere to take everybody by surprise.  Everybody likes a diamond in the rough.  Recent examples include Chien Ming Wang and Robinson Cano, who were not properly valued by the scouts, and turned in dominant seasons.

Of course, to find a diamond you have to do some prospecting, in this case with prospects.

The idea is fairly simple.  Pick a player at any level of the Yankees minor league system, do a little research and write up a brief scouting report about them.  It's a great way for us to get more educated about our farm system as a community.  You can then follow your prospect as he works his way up from Tampa to Trenton to Scranton and perhaps all the way to the hallowed ground of Yankee Stadium.

I would have picked Manny Banuelos a few years ago, but I am going to have to go with Eric Jagielo for this year.  I'm looking forward to seeing whom you guys pick!

Are you sure you want to get attached to your prospects? It's just going to make it that much harder when you trade them for overpaid, aging superstars.
