I am sure that Forino will love this homage to his report.

Congrats again on the finish, Rob!  It was great having you at the event and I was very happy to see the day go so well for you.

This was a really great read chock full of so much good advice I'll definitely be reading it a couple more times.  Hopefully this is the first of many articles!  And congrats on the Ancestral!

Rob,

I'm tingling right now after reading your report. Literally. This is stellar. I love the quotes and how you lead to each one. The homage to Raf is perfect.

I'm honored to be your friend and someone who has helped you along the way, and to have garnered help from you as well. Congratulations again on your finish.

Thanks for sharing all of that with us, Rob. You've been on a great tear lately! I'm glad to see my Champs list has been working out so well for you. Smile

I used to run Progenitus three years ago and it was usually successful alongside a copy of Iona, Shield of Emeria -- but times have changed a lot. What made you think to include the legendary hydra in your list? How would it differ if you instead ran, say, Emrakul, The Aeons Torn? I'm curious to know how Progenitus in particular worked out for you.

Congratulations on a fantastic showing, buddy.

This is less an "article" than it is "art."  Very bold stylistic choices. I dig it.

It made me remember my early experiences with Rob when to me he was one of those Penn State guys at the tournaments in PA where my friends and I would try to go barnstorming. It's amazing how much people can grow in what is relatively a short time.

Rob, that was insightful and extremely well-written.  Thanks for sharing!

BTW, the final two Oath of Druids came from me.   Smile

Thank you for the kind words, everyone.

Greg, I just didn't want to deal with the handful of cards that hit Emrakul but not Progenitus. Mainly, I expected to see a lot of Jace and Duplicant (Shop Country!). After its strong showing at Calvin's Invitational, I also expected Karakas to some degree.

To be honest, I don't remember every situation where I had Progenitus on the table, so I can't compare it to Emrakul. However, I'm fairly certain that I won every game that Progenitus made an appearance, even the ones where my opponent had Phantasmal Image or Metamorph. I also got to pitch Progenitus to FoW once.  Very Happy

For me, I'd rather have Progenitus than Emrakul for those times when you don't have Strip/Waste for Cavern on Shapeshifter.

Brilliant report. It reminded me of THE REPORT, by Forino. Beautiful quoting, brief and very well written.

Thank you for it Smile

Anyone with that level of self awareness, sincerity and humility is a winner in my book.  I too am fond of the quotes you chose, especially Marx's, and have added a few to my collection (cheers).  Indeed, success is a challenge between the individual and himself; the rewards are likewise internal.  Rob, thanks for sharing and congrats on #50!

I'm glad you guys enjoyed it.

Yes, my report was indeed an homage to Raff's Vintage Champs report. The last paragraph of this article is a twist on the Tenacious D song Tribute.

I tried to make the article short and sweet and probably spent the most time finding/researching the quotes.

Thanks for reading, and I hope I can write about the next 50 sometime in the distant future.

Rob, great report, this is probably my favorite Vintage article that I've read this year. 50 top8s is a truly gargantuan feat, do you know how many tournaments you played in to accumulate that total?

A lot. Honestly though, your guess is as good as mine, Will. I've kept track of the when, the where, what I made top eight with, how high I finished, what I lost to, and sometimes what I won since my first top eight. But I never kept track of every tournament I attended.
