Oh, right! The Fall River people! How could I have forgotten? Are you guys going to be there with your multicolor squirrel variants?
We've officially become Team Fall River!? Some of us aren't even from Fall River! We've also been branded the squirrel people too? Geez Chris, you sure are handing out beatings on this thread. lol. And yea how COULD you forget about us? After all the times we shared and you playing for both Teams and...oh wait. Right...wasn't suppose to bring that up in public again.... Okay, I know I'm a traitor since I don't play anymore, but I just had to say that this is effing fantastic. My choice as a 14 year old girl to play a squirrel deck; 7 years later resulting in branding a group of people.... I'm so flattered!

I don't know who you are, but you are probably my new hero.
I'm very biased though, since squirrel was like my trademark deck for a long time. I don't know if I like the idea of fancying it up with all these current cards, but if you could actually make it survive in competitive play, then I am impressed. Rock on!

Personally, I think people should just say eff the meta and play things like squirrel...
What fun is there in just randomly accidentally winning turn one or turn two? And do people really feel accomplished by doing that? I don't. Now when I get infinite squirrels, however, I know I have done well. And I actually have a good time. Go figure. Maybe this is why I can never be a serious vintage player. I'm probably better off. Good luck to the rest of you with dealing with vault/key.

I have a new theory. This theory is that baking will bring me luck. I am bound to win next week since I will be making and bringing oatmeal cookies. (Maybe I just think everyone should let me win for making said cookies!) No. I would never want that. I do however want everyone who reads this thread to come and enjoy some baked goods! Even if I lose, I will still feel like a winner when I see the happiness on peoples' faces, induced by my cookies.

Delayed reply, but I didn't really start posting on here until about a day or two ago; I was able to read through most of this article, and I just wanted to say that I am happy to have been briefly mentioned. I really want to become better known to the vintage community, and I guess getting hit on is an effective way to accomplish that! Paul Mastriano is ruthless in his technique. I couldn't help but notice that he approached not only myself, but also every other female who entered the room. Highly entertaining to watch. Anyway, I look forward to seeing you both at events in the future, and hopefully by the time I do, I will have become slightly better and might actually get to play against you.

Adding the pictures you took at this event certainly adds a nice touch to the report, though I may just be biased since I am in three of them. I am hoping that I will actually be playing in your next mox event coming up, but it will depend heavily on how I play next monday night. If I do participate, I absolutely would love for you to continue taking/posting pictures. Having visuals is always a plus.

After just trying to write a smaller scale tournament report with little to no notes, I must say, I applaud how well this report came out. As the afore-mentioned girlfriend, I am still rather disapointed I didn't end up getting to play. (curse my 30 proxy Tez deck!) It was still a good experience to go though; a lot of really great games were played. I particularly enjoyed watching the match against Scott, whom as you stated, was a fun opponent and certainly kept the mood light and cheerful. I realize more and more every day that the atmosphere can mean so much when it comes to being able to make good plays and maintain a calm mood. Congratulations on making top 8. You played well and I am proud of you. Also I am glad that Jesse ended up coming out on top so you guys both have your Grim Tutors now. I love that I am able to watch the two of you grow and become better players. I know you both will go far. (Figuratively and also literally when it comes to driving to tournaments lol.)

Ah ha. This thread does exist! Excellent.
My name is Heather. I also am somewhat forced to go by "Heffer", hense the user name.
I've been playing magic (mostly just type 1) for probably around 12 years. For a long while, I only played unwillingly when my brother, Keith, would make new decks and have me play against him so he could test them. As of about 5 years ago I started playing in friendly type 1 every friday night at Grandmasters in Darthmouth, MA. I never took the game very seriously though and kind of went just for the social aspects. I ended up becoming known for my use of the squirrel deck, and I bet there are some of you on here who have at least some memory of that. After grandmaster closed, my magic playing carreer became rather dormant.
I am happy to say that since the beginning of '09 I have gotten back into magic and am now trying very hard to improve myself and become a serious player. I want to get my name out there in the community and I want to practice more and more so that I hopefully can eventually do well in tournaments. I play type 1 every monday night at scholars in bridgewater, and pretty much come in dead last every week. I also go to a decent number of relatively local events to watch, learn, act as a cheerleader, and try to engrave myself in the community all at once. Yay, multi-tasking!

A tournament report written by a girl who never wins. You know you are interested in reading!
Round 1. Chris Roberts - The Pimpest Storm I play this match up so often that I can’t really help but not remember the nitty-gritty details of everything that goes on, so I’ll keep it simple. Game 1 I had nothing going on. He manages to go off on his combo and kills me, of course. Game 2 was slightly more memorable to me. I ended up using demonic tutor to get a thorn of amethyst in play. After a bit of gorilla shaman/trinket mage beat down and damage taking from things like grim tutor, Chris is at 11. I top deck tinker and use it to get darksteel since I am too awesome to play inkwell leviathan. Pass the turn. Chris tries to go off, but my thorn makes it challenging. Even after he played bargain he still could not get there, so he killed himself by drawing. Now, since I am such a slow player, and Chris’s deck requires taking a lot of time to think, clearly we weren’t going to have enough time to play through game three. We shuffle ‘em up and both draw our 7 cards leaving them face-down on the table just as Eric calls time. We then were informed that since neither of us were active player at the time, there would be no 5 turns. Round 1 draw.
Round 2. Robbie Connolly - Goblins Here is the reason I decided to write this. I love this ridiculous story. Game 1 I was on the play and I was pretty content with my hand. First turn I play underground sea, mox, mox, lotus. Sac for blue, play trinket mage, get diving top, play it. Meanwhile Robbie and Nick V. are joking around, saying he is going to first turn lotus, goblin, null rod. In my head I tell myself “Psh, Robbie doesn’t play null rod, whatever.” We go to his turn, he draws, looks at Nick and they share a laugh. He plays a lotus. He plays goblin lackey. He plays null rod! WTF? Yeah, he top decked it. To add insult to injury, he wastes my underground sea. My next few draws looked like; mox, mox, mana crypt, tormod’s crypt. Goblin beat down clearly ensued. Game 2. I mulled until I had a hand with vault, key, yawg will, tolarian academy, and I think mana drain. I knew it was bad to keep it since I had no land, but I was hoping I’d draw some, or at least some moxen so my academy wasn’t useless. Nope. I got nothing. I lose 0-2.
Round 3. Demonic Attorney - Tezzeret I’ll sum up game 1+2 at the same time. I wasn’t really drawing anything too great, and whenever I did actually try to play something somewhat relevant, Chris had an answer to it. 0-2 again. He at least inspired me to post on here. That's enough of a win I guess.
Round 4. Bye

Thank you to everyone who played. We're back to Scholar's next week. A big thank you to Stillpoint for giving us a place to play! I'm looking forward to running Legacy events with Stillpoint starting in March!
Eric, I had to register on here so I could correct your misspelling of my name! Carpentier. Tisk tisk tisk. Really though, I actually appreciate the push to get me on here, I had been meaning to join anyway and just was lazy.
