I am totally not into the Shop list with Hangerback Walker, card requires too many things to go it's way for Shops to thrive with it. This isn't even counting all the extra wins a composite list would bring if people just played it to be honest.

Its never the Workshop cards fault, but the workshop players for packing a poorly designed Shop strategy or losing die roll/ not getting better die rolls during the Swiss.
3  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Revival of Survival on: July 31, 2015, 05:34:14 pm
Survival doesn't do much in Vintage when you can just play Oath, but Survival doesn't carry the Forbidden Orchard baggage that Oath carries.

I'd run some sort of Welder monstrosity with Sundering Titan and Nullstone Gargoyle.

I would say until you feel comfortable enough to flash your hand on the table with a Zing! Type of moment.
5  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [ORI] Artificer's Epiphany on: July 02, 2015, 07:16:46 pm
I don't think this card alone is enough to fully revive Control Slaver, but with recent reports Control Slaver apparently doesn't even really need another TFK engine.

This certainly does help Vintage as another cheap draw engine that can be Mana Drained into though.

Does this guy not fit into old school Grow-Atog builds anyone?
7  Eternal Formats / Workshop-Based Prison / Re: Probing Shops on: May 30, 2015, 08:57:05 pm
Shops with Gitaxian Probe at first seems great, until you come to the understanding that you take a nosedive in other Shop matchups.
8  Eternal Formats / Workshop-Based Prison / Re: Beating Delver With Shops on: November 29, 2014, 09:54:49 pm
I'm going to be honest here, I think that a suite of things like Maze of Ith, Ensnaring Bridge, The Tabernacle at Pendrill Vale, Rishadan Port or Mishra's Factory are going to be your go to for stopping Delver aside from your own base stax artifacts. City of Traitors because sometimes in a heavy field of Delver with so many variations they can play every mana counts, so much so that getting that extra lock piece down can allow you to get your Karn, Lodestone Golem, Triskelion, or Steel Hellkite; Wurmcoil Engine out there as fast as possible. Riding out your generic Lodestone Golem is a fine way to win a game against Delver from a City of Traitors. ( City's better in a field with a Shop presence)

Tabernacle is a really good card against them. Run multiples because it stops Young Pyromancer in it's tracks from winning with tokens. 3-4 of.

Stopping Delver itself is accomplished with things like Maze of Ith specifically because of the Flying.

Delver doesn't like getting it's lands Rishadan Ported because they depend on always having 1 mana open for Treasure Cruise.

Relic of Progenitus is better against Delver than Grafdigger's Cage, but they are equally good depending on if they are going for Tinker or not. ( I might suggest a 4/3 split on stopping them and just don't run Leyline of the Void)

I think a Ghostown Shop deck ( Or whatever Shop deck just chooses to run many lands. Terra Nova I believe it was called) is the ideal Shop deck to face Delvers because of the maindeck Tabernacle,  Maze style play. Blue decks don't come prepared to pay 2 mana for guys each turn,  and then have to have a creature not attack that turn because of a Maze of Ith.

Bazaar of Baghdad Shops functions way better with Uba Mask, and Uba Mask is great against Treasure Cruise provided you get your gameplan going. Null Rod is another good inclusion in this style deck so of course the field presence of Shops need to be accounted for. Maze of Ith-Tabernacle-Ensnaring Bridge plan also makes itself known here.

Tabernacle Shops beats Delver-Pyromancer if you are really concerned about just stopping two creatures.

TLDR: Play Terra Nova Shops
9  Eternal Formats / Ritual-Based Combo / Re: TPS players on: October 30, 2014, 01:55:45 pm
On that note unrestrict Brainstorm and Ponder. Prolly another unrestriction past that like a Merchant Scroll opens up Trinisphere debate. If something like Windfall was unrestricted it would cause the least impact since it still plays into Shop/Drains. Scroll/BS/Ponder are great engine cards.

11  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / GP Nashville's Legacy and Vintage Gencon Trip Events on: October 21, 2014, 07:31:47 pm
So at GP Nashville ( After the Eternal Weekend ), they are holding a Vintage and Legacy Pre- Register event to win a Plane Ticket, Hotel Accommodations and a 4- Day Badge to Gencon 2015.

Considering this is after the Eternal Weekend and Vintage/Legacy Champs are no longer at Gencon, is GP Nashville just sending 2 players up to Gencon 2015 just because they can? I can't go to Champs but being able to win a free trip to Gencon and go to some groovy Power Level Prized event for Vintage would be swell.

Are there events worth going to at Gencon if I happen to win this tournament at Nashville? Should I even sign up? I could spend those 4 days doing something else besides walking around Gencon and playing Khans of T Standard or Draft. Just seems odd to me they wouldn't have a free plane trip to the Eternal Weekend instead or some equivalent.
12  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Life's hard cased! on: July 28, 2014, 03:29:14 pm
So I was looking around to try and play some magic and found out there was no magic to be played. I own p9, a edh deck(top tier) but the only tournaments to be found from star city games are standard modern legacy. So I would like to play vintage with my beautiful p9 but I can't seem to find a location besides the NYC area to play or hitching a ride with my team to make it up to the tournament area at gencon for champs. So looks like life is hard cased after all!
13  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Spirit of the Labrynth on: January 21, 2014, 07:44:11 pm
I was going to say, wait for Guli to make or post a Guli.dek before you come to conclusions on this card. But he has already given a fair assessment as usual. Expect this to show up frequently with Thalia or in Thalia decks. From the looks of it this will be another one of those Quasali Pridemage type creatures that just continues to rack up damage as the game goes on from it's effect.
14  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Magic movie in the works on: January 19, 2014, 03:28:24 am
I want to see a Black Lotus. Also seeing a Tarmogoyf chitter away after eating a treasure box of Legacy cards would be very thrilling.
15  Eternal Formats / Workshop-Based Prison / Re: 'Oh Shit Tezzer- !Vault! Shop Combo' on: November 04, 2013, 03:31:00 pm
With the recent addition of Ring of Three Wishes, Shop Combo has received a vast improvement. Most hands will let you come off a Time Vault Voltaic Key combo fairly quickly, and if you decide to go with Rings of Brighthearth route you can go for a Time Vault Combo and set up an additional Metalworker Infinate combo as a plan B. Likewise you can use Kuldotha Forgemaster's to make the deck stay at a good 5 curve. Adding Blightsteel lets you Kuldotha him up, or Ring of Three Wishes him up to be played with by Metalworker.
Both plans, Kuldotha or Rings of Brighthearth or Blightsteel as a finisher are great choices for this deck's playstyle now that Ring of Three Wishes let's you literally cast Tinker every turn.

3 Chalices are good enough.

4 Mox Opal are used because of the new Legendary rule.

Leylines aren't as good because of Rings not letting you play them without Lotus or Opals. You can instead use a SB of
4 Smokestack, 4 Tangle Wire, 4 Cruicble of Worlds, 3 Duplicant or Lodestone Golems.

18  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [m14] Mindsparker on: July 16, 2013, 07:38:29 pm
Mindsparker can see play much like Pyrostatic Piller sees play. It also works with Painter's Servant.
19  Eternal Formats / Creative / Gush Flash on: May 16, 2013, 10:40:56 am
With the unrestriction of Regrowth the possibility for a Flash deck emerges that can also use Gush as draw engine.

Heres what I have got so far.

Land:
1 Island
2 Polluted Delta
2 Misty Rainforest
2 Scalding Tarn
1 Flooded Strand
3 Underground Sea
3 Tropical Island

Creatures:
4 Protean Hulk
1 Carrion Feeder
1 Body Snatcher
1 Mogg Fanatic
1 Body Double
1 Reveillark

Spells:

1 Merchant Scroll
4 Force of Will
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Emerald
1 Ponder
1 Time Walk
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Brainstorm
1 Black Lotus
4 Gush
1 Fastbond
1 Flash
4 Regrowth
4 Summoner's Pact
4 Pact of Negation
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Misdirection
1 Mana Crypt
1 Echoing Truth

Sideboard:

1 Hurkyl's Recall
4 Snapcaster Mage
4 Leyline of the Void
4 Nature's Claim
1 Steel Sabotage
1 Annul

So now comes the questions, or question.

Why should I play Flash? Regrowth allows for a redundancy factor and when combined with Gush turns Flash into a darkhorse for Vintage.

Should the Mana Crypt be a Lotus Petal? (Or do I even need them at all?) Lotus Petal functions better under Yawgmoth's Will but Mana Crypt allows the Flash player to Regrowth a Flash back and recast the Flash spell.

61 cards maindeck. What should be cut for Echoing Truth, or more importantly should maindeck bounce be considered for this style of deck? Since decks like Dredge and Dark Times exist I think Echoing Truth is a must. Especially if players start loading up on more graveyard hate because of Regrowth decks. Dredge can and Dark Times usually does have maindeck Leyline of the Void. If we do not bounce Leyline we lose Game 1. Misdirection, and Body Snatcher are looking like fine cuts.

Is Yawgmoth's Will needed? I would normally say no, but with the pairing of Gush and Regrowth this could work out just fine.

Is the Reveillark Combo fast enough? I know that Wizards printed The Mimeoplasm so I know that combo exist but I'am not quite sure if it's better or takes less slots than the Reveillark Combo. I could cut Body Snatcher, but then the next problem arises when talking specifically about Flash decks.

How do I put cards back from my hand when I don't have 4 Brainstorm? Body Snatcher let's you play around this problem much like Legacy Cephalid Breakfeast decks used Cabal Therapy on themselves to get rid of the combo cards in their hand.

Games 2 and 3 your Nature's Claim on your own artifacts will allow you to continue to use the Gush Bond engine with Snapcaster. Thalia is hard for this deck to stop since the hate cards in the sideboard ( Claim, Annul, Steel Sabotage, Hurkyl's Recall) are all directed at artifacts and enchantments. Annul is because of Oath of Druid decks that prey on the Snapcaster Mage plan.

A good question to consider when trying Gush Flash is how many Summoner's Pact you want to run. That number helps determine the pace you are trying to Flash out at. Preordain could be a alternative to Summoner's Pact. Likewise in a old Flash thread Elvish Spirit Guide was mentioned as basically another Mox for when you use Summoner's Pact.

20  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Free Article] On Vintage on: May 15, 2013, 04:31:34 pm
I personally think Mana Drains are improved with the Unrestriction of Regrowth.

Regrowth with Mana Drain allows you to do neat things like use Cunning Wish(s) multiple times regardless of if they get countered or not, and the Wish targets being vastly improved because of extra Mana Drain mana.
21  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Spoiler - Voice of Resurgence on: May 15, 2013, 03:15:39 pm
If you swing with Voice of Resurgence to attack during your turn and your opponent Lightning Bolts this creature you happen to get 2 2/2 GW Tokens. 1 Token since your opponent casted a spell on your turn and another token for when Voice of Resurgence dies.

2 2/2 Tokens off a Lightning Bolt is a great trade. Basically you 2 for 1'd your opponent with this thing. Voice of Resurgance is not Legendary so x4 can be ran without hesitation.
22  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Menendian/Cron Podcast on: May 08, 2013, 03:37:12 pm
I've written a design article (it's non-premium) that will go up on EC in the next few days, but it is definitley possible for Wizards and magic designers to make cards that increase the relevant card pool rather than consolidate it.  All pre-BSC tinker robots did this.  The trick is designing cards that are situationally better and worse than existing playables.  Thus, Flustrestorm can be printed without replacing Spell Pierce.  And so on.

This is also pointed out when they unrestricted Regrowth. They used the example cards as ''Yawgmoth's Will'' and ''Snapcaster Mage''.
23  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Budget Green on: May 08, 2013, 10:14:36 am
But does mono green have the cards to cover all those match ups?

Green is about threat density.  The deck presented has more ways to kill artifacts than to win the game.  If blue knows they only have to counter Tarmogoyf to cut your outs to Gray Ogre and Mons Goblin Raiders then you'll be in trouble.

If you are having problems with certain matchups Hidden Guerrillas and Hidden Gibbons can be easy swaps for Elvish Scrapper and Oxidize. Gibbons being able to take a Lightning Bolt and still swing, and Guerrillas being Lodestone Golem Power/Toughness and it has Trample. I mentioned earlier Scavenging Ooze is useful for Creature based matchups and Dredge plus it can stop Bomberman's combo. I would swap the Krosan Grip out for Ooze. Krosan Grip can stop Oath of Druids, so remember that if you find yourself with alot creatures at the time they cast Oath. Wasteland with Regrowth should be enough to stop Oath decks so that Gibbons can come and finish them off. Because even if Oath gives you a token, chances are they won't have enough mana to cast Oath next turn. (Chalice, Null Rod)
24  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: [Deck Primer]: Christmas Beatings on: May 08, 2013, 10:00:56 am
4 Lightning Bolt
3 Gorilla Shaman
4 Magus of the Moon
4 Tarmogoyf
2 Pyroblast
4 Nature's Claim
3 Null Rod
2 Ancient Grudge
4 Simian Spirit Guide
4 Elvish Spirit Guide
4 Wooded Foothills
3 Mountain
3 Forest
4 Taiga
4 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine
1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Emerald
4 Regrowth
SB: 4 Pyrokinesis
SB: 3 Red Elemental Blast
SB: 2 Ancient Grudge
SB: 4 Grafdigger's Cage
SB: 2 Pyroblast

So the key here is the new addition of 4 Regrowth to Christmas Beatings. I cut a Gorilla Shaman, swapped out 4 Chalice for 3 Null Rod and cut 2 Pyroblast for a full playset of Regrowth maindeck. I added 2 Pyroblast to the Sideboard and cut the Pithing Needle, and cut a Red Elemental Blast.

I cut the Gorilla Shaman and did the Chalice/Rod swap; Pyroblast getting cut was also because of Regrowth. Regrowth allows me to recast the Gorilla Shaman or Null Rod I need to resolve on the table. Because of this I will start using the Shaman/Rod combination at preferred numbers to draw them hopefully once per game.

The Pyroblast getting cut is a steep loss but because of Regrowth I get game in other areas. Now I can consistantly keep a Gush player Striplanded down, and I can trade back and forth with Shops easier. I can also Regrowth back Pyroblast that were countered trying to stop that Jace. Regrowth allows the deck to function at the curve of Christmas Beatings with 5 Stripmine to me. Regrowthing used Fetchlands can be just as important as getting that Black Lotus back if it is lategame and you need some deck thinning to draw into a beater faster.

25  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Budget Green on: April 22, 2013, 02:37:09 am
Heres mine!

// Lands
    1  Strip Mine
    4 [JGC] Wasteland
    1  Wooded Foothills
    1  Misty Rainforest
    1  Verdant Catacombs
    1  Windswept Heath
    10  Forest

// Creatures
    4  Elvish Scrapper
    4  Elvish Spirit Guide
    4  Tarmogoyf

// Spells
    1  Fastbond
    4  Chalice of the Void
    4  Oxidize
    1  Mox Emerald
    4  Ankh of Mishra
    4  Deglamer
    2  Null Rod
    4 [JGC] Regrowth
    4  Nature's Claim
    1  Black Lotus

// Sideboard
SB: 4  Grafdigger's Cage
SB: 4  Krosan Grip
SB: 4  Choke
SB: 2  Null Rod
SB: 1  Channel

I made a Mono Green deck that plays out like Christmas Beatings. With the addition of Regrowth you will stick your hate card of choice and usually get something to resolve. (Deglamering the opponents Blightsteel)

The Ankh of Mishra's are my idea to stop the new Regrowth Gush decks. Fastbond is so I can play my lands before Ankh of Mishra cripples me, and furthermore get multiple Ankh of Mishra's out faster along with getting enough mana to cast Regrowth on something and replay it. I wanted things that can benefit from Regrowth while not messing me up if I have to use Grafdigger's Cage so I decided Elvish Scrapper being a beater and reccurable artifact destroyer was good enough. It could instead be Hidden Gibbons if you want or Scavenging Ooze. Scavenging Ooze giving reach on your life total against Tendrils while feeding into the 'Christmas Beatings' concept. Hidden Gibbons to try and get a early lock with Anhk/Chalice/Rod then finish them off.

Dredge seems too strong in that tournament report. But then again the UW Control players did not put on a good game against Shops/Dredge.
28  Eternal Formats / Workshop-Based Prison / Re: Workshops and Null Rod on: February 01, 2013, 08:56:38 pm
Ask yourself this. If you want to play Vroman's Uba Stax list (basically only with like 2-4 cards modded in it for now) then sleeve it up and go to town. It contains a better strategy for abusing Null Rod than any of the other Shop decks because it has Bazaar and Welders.
You might be able to come up with a Aggro Shop list that uses Null Rod and win (I've seen it done, and been witness to the tournament reports where it does infact win or top 8), that being said I don't think it matches the overall structure of Uba Stax. Uba Mask hoses Gush, and Burning Wish better than Sphere's on top of Spheres. (Because when they draw and can't play, its just gone for good most of the time) Uba Mask also hits Aggro decks harder when they do happen to start whiffing their draws. This deck also contains all the Power 9 needed for it's style and only needs x3 Null Rod.
29  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Free article] Gatecrash Vintage set Review on: February 01, 2013, 08:48:41 pm
Do you think Whispering Madness could fit into some sort of new TPS UB shell? (Grim Long, whatever)

I know. Lodestone Golem eats this deck. With the new printings of Gitaxian Probe, Steel Sabotage.. Snapcaster Mage as a Cipher target I think it could be pulled off.

Just think of the possibilities of having basically a free Windfall every turn. Disgusting. The fact that Whispering Madness is a Sorcery seriously hurts its playability that is for sure. If Wizards only made it a Mythic Instant.

I don't buy into Mr. Demars using Whispering Madness on a Basking Rootwalla.
30  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: - I missed this, you did too - it's the Dredge of Gatecrash on: January 23, 2013, 12:57:29 pm
I actually do like these cards for some reason. Not one but TWO Black Hermit Druids? Legacy Cephalid Breakfeast is a thing, but now (since Hermit Druid is banned over there) they can try this Black approach to combo.
