Great report and congrats on the finish (also congrats on that awesome cumulative rating).

And I must say, I'm glad you're still playing Mental Note! I hate Predict/Portent Razz

PS - Apocalypse Chime is tech, very nice.
2  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Vintage and Legacy Championships on: July 24, 2006, 04:58:50 pm
The two 1st prizes are roughly the same. I would expect more people to play in the Legacy Championships this year than the Vintage Championship, so perhaps that's why the prize scale is adjusted as it is.

However, I wonder which costs Wizards more to produce? I would assume Wizards can acquire cards without much problem. If they don't already have them, most dealers would love to get on Wizards good side by providing cheap Duals. I honestly have no idea how much it costs Wizards to commission art, but it seems like it would be more than 40x Duals.
3  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Vintage and Legacy Championships on: July 24, 2006, 01:04:57 am
In my eyes, the Vintage 1st place prize seems much better than the Legacy. The second place prize is most likely a result of this.

Why Seal over Disenchant?

Seal gets around a flipped Erayo, Sphere of Resistance, and Chalice at 2 (if in played). It is also fetchable via Enlightened Tutor. It is rare that the information you give your opponent by playing Seal will help them in any significant way. The fact that it can be hit with Naturalize isn't a good argument since few opponents will be playing Disenchant effects against a deck with very few targets (this one). If they bounce it you can just play it again without much problem.

On another note, what were your results with Hide? I like playing:
1x Enlightened Tutor
2x Seal of Cleansing
1x Hide/Seek

Have you been replacing the Seals as well?
5  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [Announcement] Kadilak's Dual Land Draft II!!! 8/5/06 Syracuse, NY!!! on: July 14, 2006, 12:50:59 am
I'm very tempted, but am probably going to the RIW Type 1 since it is 10 miles away. (sorry Legacy, you're still the best in my book!) I'll try to make it out to another one of these if it happens again though, I heard great things about the last!
6  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Congratulations Machinus! on: July 13, 2006, 04:09:32 pm
Way to represent! Wink
7  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [Announcement] July 8 & 9 Richmond, VA Star City Back-to-Back "Duel for Duals" on: July 11, 2006, 04:26:13 pm
To be honest I really don't like these Top 8's, they seem a bit janky...
Please show me a Legacy T8 that didn't seem janky!  Legacy is the land of jank.

Very true Razz

At least there isn't Mesmeric Orb.dec in the Top 8!

It sounds like there was a crazy amount of Solidarity running around with few Thresh decks, I'm not surprised it placed so well. and I'm glad Thresh and Gobbos won - at least we can pretend to have some metagame coherence. Wink
8  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [Announcement] July 8 & 9 Richmond, VA Star City Back-to-Back "Duel for Duals" on: July 10, 2006, 11:13:50 pm
Thanks for the info!

So what now? Has Threshold been hated out of the meta? Sui had a better showing! Ew.

Is Solidarity the new king?

To be honest I really don't like these Top 8's, they seem a bit janky Neutral What won each day?

Also, glad to see the attendance wasn't too terrible - but it wasn't great. I hope things get better, right now things seem a bit stagnant.

A spectating Brian Demars explains to him how he could have killed the Chalice and possibly won

That's really too bad because he also made a play mistake against me that may have cost him the match. He seemed to sort of storm off at the end - I don't think he was very happy with the tourny. I hope he comes back! If anybody sees him (Jeremy Rutherford) make sure you tell him to keep showing up Wink . He's a good player, but simply things have cost him.

That goes for the rest of you as well! You all need to keep coming. I love having this incredibly skilled environment (even though it makes it very difficult to win Razz ).

But seriously, no more Bloodmoon. Evil or Very Mad
10  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [Announcement] Legacy Tournament, Garden City, MI June 17th on: June 17, 2006, 11:51:26 pm
Awesome tournament despite the turnout and despite Blood Moon (come on now! Blood Moon?! What a stupid card Razz ). I think dropping the price a bit might be a good idea - but I think you're right about being too good, everybody there today had a chance of winning. It scares away the casual folk. That or we just need to convert more people into Legacy lovers.

Time for my match breakdown and the amazing story of how I went 2-2 and made top 4. I was playing UGW Thresh

Round 1
I play vs B/W Confidant and win in 2 close games. The poor deck died to its namesake both games (Dark Confidant). Tough luck.
1-0

Round 2
I play vs Burn. This is a surprisingly hard match. Maybe he just had a good version against Thresh? I don't remember it usually being this close.
Game 1 I won due 100% to Worship being in my opening hand. Game 2 I got quickly burnt out. Game 3 I found Worship again and in a close game found a win.
There was a lot of luck involved with winning this match.
2-0

Round 3
I play vs Goblins and my deck craps all over me. Game 1 I win without too much trouble. Game 2 I mull to 4!!!! Due to 0 (zero) land in all the other hands. Yuk. That is over fast. Game 3 I look at my hand and am very sad to see a lone Tundra with no cantrips. That has to go. I mull to 6 and lose to Blood Moon - I can't find my forest.

Round 4
I play vs WW/u and get blown out. In none of the games I played against Paul did I feel like I had control of the game, it was nasty. Game 1 I lose to Mother of Runes giving his creatures protection. Game 2 I lose to Meddling Mage on Swords while I continue to draw into 3 Sad . This is not a good match-up for me. (especially if Ramosian Sergeant stays on the table - which it did)

Top 4
Going 2-2 I was very happy to see I made it into 4th place! Yay! I didn't really mind playing Paul again since I at least got $10 for my efforts. And again I lost 2-0. Well, time to switch to Train Wreck.

Thanks to Dan for putting this thing on! And excellent sportsmanship in your round against KC. You're an asset to Legacy.

Best of luck to all at RIW! Lets show them what our format can do.
11  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [Announcement] Legacy Tournament, Garden City, MI June 17th on: June 07, 2006, 02:34:41 pm
Oh shit, I didn't even think about Grad parties - is anybody else going to get hit by them?

I hope I'll be able to get there, I'm not actually sure who's party is that day... hmmm.

I have a terrible memory, what time have these things been ending? Maybe I can just go to the parties late.

Good luck to all, and see you in July!

Ah crap, now I have to worry about Stax too Razz We are starting to get one weird metagame.

Final Standings!!

Here are the results as best I can remember. I think 16 people showed up?

Top 8:
Life (mastershake)
R/W Burn?

High Tide (krzymoose)
Tog (spencer)

Goblin Burn
High Tide (me)

Angel Stompy (kilz)
B/W Confidant

Top 4:

Life (mastershake)
Tog (spence)

Angel Stompy (kilz)
High Tide (me)

Top 2: (which we split)

Tog (spence)
High Tide (me)

(Edit: By High Tide I mean Solidarity, not SpringTide - I usually refer to it as Tide to help the newer players)

17  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / [non-magic] New Super Smash! on: May 10, 2006, 10:22:21 pm
Sorry, I generally try to keep my videogame nerdity and magic nerdity seperate, but I just couldn't resist. The new Super Smash Bros has been announced for Nintendo Wii and it looks to be awesome!! Pit, Wario, Meta-Knight, and SNAKE(!) are all playable characters this time!

Simply... WOW. This looks to be hella fun!
18  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Recommendations for unknown music on: May 02, 2006, 07:50:18 pm
ocremix.org - Seriously. It's all fan-made remixes of videogame music (which may be a turn-off), but the quality of some of it is simply amazing.
19  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [Announcement] Weekly Legacy in Howell, Michigan on: May 02, 2006, 07:41:56 pm
Wow, even we gave up on this one...

What does this mean?

Has there been a tournament yet? When things easier with school I might be able to pop over there. Let me know whats up with them.

Also, will they be sanctioned with 8+ players? Is this possible for them to do?
20  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [Announcement] GenCon Legacy Championship, 2006 on: April 27, 2006, 03:10:25 pm
When they say "prizes include Italian Legends", does that mean ALL the packs are Legends, or just like half of them or so?

All would be awesome, but I doubt they have that many.

That gets me thinking though, where the heck are they getting all these Italian Legends packs?! They seem to always give them away. Weird.
21  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [Announcement] GenCon Legacy Championship, 2006 on: April 27, 2006, 01:52:28 pm
Bah! Every year there's something that keeps me from going to Gencon Sad

I might be able to get out of it though - hopefully everything will work out

If I don't make it good luck to everyone who does!
22  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [Announcement] Legacy Tournament, Sat. May 20th, Garden City, MI on: April 23, 2006, 01:11:29 pm
Man, I am in love with you!! These tournaments are awesome, I'm glad they're going to keep going. I really hope I can make it out for this one - I wont know until a bit closer to the date.

But regardless, this is still awesome.

Thanks!

I really wish I could have made it there! Glad the turnout was good though Mr. Green. So when's the next one?!  Razz

Hope everyone had fun!!

Wow, a lot of people had to drop Sad

I hope the turnout is good - and if it's not, don't give up hope!! I'll be there for sure in the future. I can't come tomorrow because I'm in a play, but that's over in 2 days.

I better see a report up tomorrow night Razz

My thanks again to the administrators, who agreed to post this update.

Unless anyone has been living under a rock for the past 11 weeks, we're all aware that Wizards of the Coast initiated legal action against me and ten unknown entities on January 19th. A news announcement on February 18th updated the situation.

I'm here to announce that earlier this week, Wizards and I signed a settlement agreement which will end the legal action being taken against me. I'm not allowed to discuss the specific terms of the agreement. However, you will notice obvious changes in my unofficial roles on this website. Please note my signature, below. I'm no longer interested in hearing any information about Wizards' products that aren't already publicly available. I'll continue to be a moderator, and I'll continue to be an active member of MTG Salvation.

I'm not here to badmouth anyone and I'm happy to put this behind me. I continue to appreciate Wizards for putting out a game that I've enjoyed for almost ten years, and hope to enjoy for many more.

A humongous, enthusiastic, heartfelt thanks goes out to Jay Shergill (Haloscope on the forums) for his involvement in this case. My wife and I can't thank him enough for all the time and effort he put into drafting documents, explaining legal terms to me, and negotiating in my defense. He could have very well spent that time and energy taking a paying client, or getting caught up on sleep! I'm so thankful to Jay for appearing during a dark and bewildering time for me, and offering his competent help. It was invaluable to have a lawyer on my side who not only understood the game and company who makes it, but also already knew about me and the history behind the case. I have no idea where this would have gone if I hadn't found him. Thank you, Jay!

Thank you also to every single person who supported me with words of encouragement, speaking out on forums and petitions for what they felt was right, writing or emailing those involved, and sending thoughts and prayers for my family and I in the past 11 weeks. I may have been publicly near silent since it all began, but you can bet I was reading every single post, PM, email, IM, and signature that was made on the topic. Thank you everyone!

You'll see me around the forums on a more regular basis again, and Jay is willing to help answer questions in this thread, should there be any.

http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=36468

Glad to see it's all over. I hope things can get back to normal for Daron and his family.
26  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: The back to back Legacy events in July are cancelled on: April 03, 2006, 02:32:08 pm
Noooo  Sad

I hope it's still sometime in the summer, otherwise there is a good chance I wont be able to make it. (unless is falls on break)

Well, as long as they don't cancel it totally I'm not too upset.
27  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [Announcement] Legacy Tournament, Sat. April 8th, Garden City Michigan on: March 30, 2006, 11:23:21 pm
Thanks to Tim at Pandemonium, we have the Foil Rod of Spanking for last place.  I am wondering how people would feel about having the card signed by the 1st place player.  Yes, I do have a weird sense of humor.

I liked when it was signed by the judges - but signed by the first place player would be pretty funny too.
28  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [Announcement] Legacy Tournament, Sat. April 8th, Garden City Michigan on: March 20, 2006, 06:08:14 pm
@bomholmm.
Watch for a larger prize event in the future.  SpencerforHire has been talking about running a Mox or Lotus event.

That would be awesome!

If you do end up doing it please do some sort of "what date is best" thing. I would be SO PISSED if I missed it Razz

29  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [Announcement] 3/12 Legacy MWS Master tournament on: March 14, 2006, 10:38:17 pm
Thanks for putting it on, you guys are awesome.

But seriously, that top 8 (and the meta there) is so freaking wacky. I'm glad Life won, that has always been a favorite of mine - and the WW list is also nice, I have something with a few similarities in the works Wink .

I'm also glad at least one Thresh deck made it past the swiss, I wasn't sure if it would happen.

Again, thanks for putting this on

P.S.  So when's the next 1.5 Master? Razz
30  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [Announcement] Legacy Tournament, Sat. April 8th, Garden City Michigan on: March 13, 2006, 09:57:18 pm
Oh man, that is soooo tasty Sad I'm pissed I wont be there.

A lot of people had better show up so that these keep happening.
