3.) Why was is assumed that Voldemort made 7 horocruxes (yet didn't know Harry was the seventh). Wouldn't he have made another?
In Book 6, Riddle had that conversation with Slughorn where he suggested that he might split is soul into 7 (therefore 6 Horcruxes and his body) because 7 was the most powerfully magical number. I had the impression that Harry being the seventh Horcrux was accidental. Also I could believe something like Voldemort not being able to tear his soul apart any further because he had so little left. Crown of Ravenclaw Nagani Hufflepuff's cup Slitherins Locket Gaunts Ring Riddles Journal Harry Are what I remember for the horcruxes but how did he get into that babyish form in Book 4 which led to his ressurection in the graveyard with the bone blood and flesh? I'm sure the answer is pretty simple but It's slipping my mind at the monment. Was the explaination that the part that was left of his soul from his original body was just floating around? Or what?

Also, as far as the epilogue, I thought it was kinda sappy how Harry married Ginny, Ron married Hermione, like, I feel that would have been much better left to the reader's imagination than just blatantly tacked on at the end. In fact, the whole "and everyone lived happily ever after" part bothered me,because while it made lot of readers happy because they can't stand anything but happy endings, The only thing I have to say to this is that books, 4, 5 and 6 didn't have happy endings. Actually all of them had really sad depressing endings. Heck we all had to read that Harry was going to walk to his certain doom with the shadows of his loved ones. Having Harry die at the end would have been unacceptable. Imagine the outrage? What a wonderful message to everyone "Work really hard, try to be a good person and fight for whats right and get murdered for your trouble". No matter what it's still a children's book and I was impressed to the extent the author tried to play into the fact that Harry had to die. Now as for other comments about the middle of the book being boring I agree. Actually I felt both 6 and 7 had a really weak 'middle' to them. Like she was just trying to make sure the books were over 700 pages. As for the epilogue I didn't mind it at all, the author had a choice either allow people to speculate what happens and in doing so make her life a living hell until she answers the questions or do her best to answer the questions in a somewhat imaginitive way and leave some margin for more expansion. Heck she has already done interviews trying to answer questions like what Harry, Ron and Hermoine do for jobs. I think too many people are too hard on her. She was in the ultimate no win situation. End the most successful fantasy series of all time in a way to piss off the fewest people and make it so you limit the amount of questions that are asked of you in the future. If I were her I would have bought a large island and moved their for a few yearsso I don't get asked question after question. Off of that rant I want to ask everyone else this. I've been discussing it with one of my friends. I feel that one of the overall messages in this book was the revilation that Snape didn't know what love was and what it in the end cost him. The fact that he was in love with Lily for so long and the way he continually messed it up time and time again to the point where he didn't realize that having Voldimort not kill her wouldn't make her love him. In fact it probably would have made her hate him even more. I thought this was an excellent message that manifested itself in his hatred for harry even though he should have cared about him because the woman he loved sacrificed his life for him, but instead because he looked like his rival for Lily's affection he treated him badly. Did anyone else see this or was it just me?

I really enjoyed the book as much as I could, I didn't so much read the book as I devoured it. I was able to get alot out of it but the fear of being told the ending and basiclly barring myself from the internet for a few weeks made any time I wasn't reading the book a worry that it would be ruined.
My best freind summed it up best "It ended the only real way it could" and I agree. I feel it was very well written (but of course my litterary experience is mostly from comic books) and did what all of the harry potter books did: Make you go back and reread one of the other books because you missed somthing that is now a central part of the story. But there were definatly parts where I felt great emotion for the situation which is all I can ask for in any form of entertainment. The story wrapped up well but still gave a large number of topics to debate and discuss, somthing I always enjoy.

Though the process that makes these cards is fairly common practice now, when these originally came out about 2 years ago, the store in Maryland that was distributing them lost their 'premier store' status, and all higher level events (GPT's, and JSS's), because they aren't more than 20% different they are illegal. The reason that gamingetc tokens are legal because they are different enough from Magic cards that a clear difference can be seen. I expect that the website that is selling that stuff will recieve some sort of cease and desist order now that the boys at Wizards are on top of it.
Does this mean that since the proxies I do are clearly distinguishable from real cards, I can legally sell them? If so, yays! You have to make sure the pictures arn't copyrighted by either the artists or WotC. Thats why the Gametec proxies use different art.

Catwoman is a complex character. She isnt good and she isnt bad. She has her own motivations and tries to accomplish whatever she wants by any means nessessary. Sure she is a cat burglar, but she steals from the rich, and it is usually some animal related item, like a pelt, a jade sphynx etc. She also uses these goods to fund things like animal conservation areas. She's definitely a grey character.
j
I get the basic catwoman idea. I've read enough seen enough to know of her struggle etc etc. i wasn't really confused by that. It was the died and given life by cats angle that I didn't understand. I never thought that was her origin I don't think it is

I doubt any of those could successfully turn into a movie, but it would be neat to see then in a new format.
Also, I'm assuming the worst comic book movie is Catwoman, although the only comic book movies that I have actually seen are Spider Man 2 and, um, one of the old Batman movies. I think.
The big problem with Catwoman was the "OMFG I Died, Oh sweet cats somehow magicly brought me back to life! Now i'm going to be bad. Â Wait I'm going to be good". Â I'm not too big into the catwoman books but I'm pretty sure thats not anywhere close to anything that could be considered a correct origin. Â I don't care if its changed a bit (read: spiderman's webbing) but they really should have renamed her panter girl or somthing and not wasted the cash on the licence for the movie. Â Hell call it "See Halle Berry in leather movie"!

I want a Sandman movie, but that might be better as an adult-oriented animated series, a la HBO's Spawn.
Only if its like the first season of spawn (the Billy Kidman story was excellent). As for the best comic movie its got to be Sin City. Â The books itself were amazing and the movie did a good job in chosing the actors/actresses for each part. Â However I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of non comic book readers were a bit confused on the Marv section. Â Honorable mention to the Spiderman movies (that do a good job to show the inner struggle of peter parker which I feel could have been easily lost to random action adventure garbage) I would personally love to see a movie adaptation of Last (the last man on earth) I've been reading the trades and they are unbelievable and would make an interesting movie. Â I always watned a monkey named Amprasand. And for the worst comic movie... Daredevil, I may be biased (please see my name) but that movie was god awful. Â It would be nice to know how one goes from scared little boy to superhero in one scene. Â Its pretty bad when movies with Electra and an Excellent Kingpin can be that horrid, I guess thats credit to Mr. Affleck.

“What if someone decides to run a tournament on the same day as a SCG P9 tournament in the same geographic location? Maybe it’s an existing TO and they throw it up on the calendar and a thread in the tournament forum. That directly affects their business, period. They are now paying for competition of one of their events.I have no plans to change any aspect of the TMD forums, or how they operate.
If anyone were to actually do this, I wouldn’t be happy about it, but I would not ask, or expect, TMD mods to remove/modify the competing event’s post. The TMD tournament forums are for promoting ALL Vintage tournaments, not playing favorites. Also we have discussions about their articles, about their tournaments, about their prices, and also about other websites, eBay auctions and on and on. Those things directly affect SCG. Will they be cool enough to allow it?If it was allowed before, it is allowed now.“I know that everyone has high opinions of the owner of SCG and I'm sure they are right. However in order to get where he is he knows how to run a business. How is he going to feel if one of us slams his tournament, or article, or pricing etc etc etc.If it was allowed before, it is allowed now.“Thanks so much Steve. You have been a great steward of this format and you deserve all the credit for this site. “I completely agree.
I would like to again thank Steve for creating such a fantastic resource for the Vintage community and entrusting me with that creation.Best wishes, Pete Hoefling President, StarCityGames.com http://www.starcitygames.com Thanks for the answers to my questions! Look the reason why people are scared are quite valid. SCG needs to make money or they will have to sell their business to someone else. I understand that, that’s great. However SCG owns TMD now, fine. What if someone decides to run a tournament on the same day as a SCG P9 tournament in the same geographic location? Maybe it’s an existing TO and they throw it up on the calendar and a thread in the tournament forum. That directly affects their business, period. They are now paying for competition of one of their events.
Also we have discussions about their articles, about their tournaments, about their prices, and also about other websites, eBay auctions and on and on. Those things directly affect SCG. Will they be cool enough to allow it? Time will tell, I know that everyone has high opinions of the owner of SCG and I'm sure they are right. However in order to get where he is he knows how to run a business. How is he going to feel if one of us slams his tournament, or article, or pricing etc etc etc.
It’s a change; people have the right to be skeptical. Time will show us how this will turn out. Now isn’t the time for overly rosy glasses, nor is it time to start screaming the sky is falling, only time will tell.

and my soon-to-be wife will work at Ron Jon's (or something; Ron Jon's is the plan, but it could be anything). So did she actually apply for that position or just at one point thought it would be nice to work there? Ron Jon's is the plan, but she could just as well end up turning tricks for crack? Also he must have met the absolutly most understanding woman in the world. "Hey hunny I don't want a carrer like a teacher I want to pretend to need an Eyepatch for tourisits! Oh and if you wouldn't mind being a waitress that would be great so we can live in a shack!" That my friends is a girl you marry!

Portal isn't a reason to be at Waterbury. Waterbury is the reason to be at Waterbury. I understand that its a long trip for you however when people talk about how great waterbury is they mean it. I was able to go to one and it was amazing its the closest thing I've seen to being at a hardcore show (at least the community aspect of it). It truly is a special time and whether we play vintage magic or Frisbee Golf it would still rule.

I like Simple names I don't know if it fits with the overall flavor of the set but I like
Redemption
Which means:
1. Recovery of something pawned or mortgaged. 2. The payment of an obligation, as a government's payment of the value of its bonds. 3. Deliverance upon payment of ransom; rescue.
I think its a good fit for black and green, green for recovery and black for the "pawned or mortgaged" (i.e. killed) Just my .02

making it cost X would be insane look at other color fixers like: Star Compass (costs 2 and only allows you to play mana a basic land you control) or Celestial Prism which costs 3 and makes you pay 2 and tap to get a mana of any color. If you make it cost X here is what will happen:
Land Mox
Tap 2
Mana Converter with 2 counters.
So now 2nd turn you could have 5 mana (if you drop another land) and have mana drain mana up first turn alot of the time.

Alot of stuff that was very very right
I agree with everything you said. I vote you for offical voice of vintage! I especially like the parts where you threaten people with violence. You own. Anyway with the topic I am for 5-10 proxies with the "tax" however I don't want people proxying Tinder Walls and stuff I wish there was a list of cards that you can proxy up (expensive and rare cards only) and that would make it alot easier to deal with. Most people know what Black Lotus does but most people don't know Wood Elemental does (not like it matters) so I think people complain a bit too much about the "mox on a plains" approach to proxy making. Thats why I have made my own Aqua Teen Hunger Force Proxies!

They're ever so slightly thinner than your average card, but indistinguishable from most power or mana drains which are worn enough that they're also thinner/bend easier than brand new cards.
Also, as said above, they're also a wee bit taller. Just trim them. It's no big deal.
Yeah i think its worth it I got the $10 set and i got a foil Ancestral so that was quite awesome It would be nice if some TOs allowed them with opaque sleaves

I just got a set of these on a trade with Tuttle's dad, and I have to say they look really, REALLY good in person. Good enough for me to want to run them over my real power/fake power/andy's power mix.
Can you confirm their thickness and size relative to real cards? If they aren't indistinguishable in a sleeve, then it won't matter how good they look. Also, do you have a regular set or a foil set? I have a set they seem to be the same thickness but are longer than other cards :-/ So have some fun with a knife or play with the japanese sleaves which are larger type.

Sure it matters, even if they won't unrestrict it. You should try holding fun mini-tournaments where you can take any one non-Power9 restricted card per deck and run it as a 4-of. Decks designed to use 4x Academy, 4x Balance, etc.
On note with that I would like to say that Balance has the greatest Power level vs cost of any card ever printed. Looking on cardshark people are selling Revised Balances for $1.25. Can't get anything else that broken for that price.

Animate dead is another card I thought would just own the format. Welders, Plat, Colossus, you can take anything.Â
Two things one you can't take colossus but thats neither here nor there. Also on the blue vs black argument welders have great synergy with Gifts, Intuition and Thirst. I understand the good uses for Animate (see decks like Cerebral Assasin) and for therepy but blue gives you alot of powerful cards and when proxies are available the big ones like Ancestral Etc. I know this makes the deck more like the traditional U/r Stax but its just some suggestions. play what you want and enjoy.

I'm honestly surprised at how much people think Balance is so good. Probably the deck in the format best able to abuse Balance right now would be 5c stax variants - but even then, I'm not so sure that unrestricted balance or mind twist would be 1/4th as bad as people think although maybe 1/5th. Balance has alot of flaws that weren't apparent when it was "so good." We played the balance deck in my tourament of banned decks last year and it was fucking wretched.  One problem with balance is that decks are much more efficient and much faster then they were in the past. Brainstorm can pretty much undo a balance by helping you recover faster becuase your opponent puts resources into the balance to try and maximize it. I don't think that 4 Balance.dec would honestly be worse than Trinipshere. Which isn't saying much, but it's saying something.Â
Well I remember how the old balance deck got destoryed in the banned tourney but you shouldn't be thinking of 1995 tech for balance. I can only imagine the amazing decks people could come up with if they could use 4x balance. But that doesn't really matter since they will never unrestrict balance. I'll never understand how somthing whose power you can't accuratly describe can cost 1W and no one thinks its powerful... even if it does require white mana.

Well i apologize....I am in the marketing business, so i think i am used to trying to get people's attention with dramatics. This is the problem with everything... Not just magic, marketing has to make things so much bigger than they really are. OMFG THE WORLD IS FALLING BUY THIS YOU NEED IT BLAH BLAH BLAH. On a related topic. If you don't like the format there are OTHER formats which is fine for you to play. I'm not saying "get out" but its an option if you don't like the current state of vintage try out another format and if you don't like that come back. I know the cards are expensive but its supposed to be a game for fun so do what you have to to have fun. At Smmenen: I don't know you, I haven't met you, I've read the stuff you do on this page. Honestly the only beef I have with you is the constant posting of your resume' on this webpage. Every other argument you bring up is "blah blah blah" I did this I created that I masted this. Yeah thats awesome bro we all get that and if someone is new they will learn that in time. However, you don't need to say it in every post about everything. Oh and fuck what everyone else says! Do what you want to do and not what people tell you to do. Life is too short to take people's shit.
