This is creeping around the bend and I'm hoping we can get a big turnout for it. I'm sure I'm not the only fellow on a "Vintage high" from Eternal Weekend that wants some more big events in November. Who's coming down to Mark's? Let's help make this into a good one! Ok, I lied. This might be my return to Vintage. Just need to decide what do play lose with.

So it's a worse way to play Polymorph.dec?
Not exactly impressive.
Except it tutors for spells as well and can be built into a Storm style deck with reasonable ease. Still think it's too random for efficacy in the format. Not to mention, if I am reading it right, you don't even get the play the original spell you tried to cast.

Dying Bonfire 1R Enchantment
Sac ~: Add RR to your mana pool. Exile ~ from your graveyard: Add R to your mana pool.
I know Red-based storm decks aren't en vogue in Vintage, but the last ability is the key: giving graveyard strategies a mana source when comboing off.
Probably could do the same thing with black. Sac to Cabal Ritual with a Threshold check.

Nick,
If you looking at professional alters, you might want to try to hook up with Chris Hanson, just incase you need another person to go to.
As it stands, I do have a conflicting event that I am running at Grim that day, plus I am not sure I would be able to lay out $100 the weekend before I leave for Vegas and Miami.
I really, really hope this works out, as this would be the exact type of event I would come out of a "Vintage retirement" for... even if I would be pissed off for never winning a round.

I think I may have just had an epiphany! Here's a thought on an enchantment: Realm of Peace 1 / Enchantment Realm of Peace cannot be countered by spells or abilities. Spells no longer use the stack (They cannot be the target of spells or abilities and players do not pass priority upon resolution.) I wonder if this card would be too good? What do you all think it would do? It was just a thought experiment. Is there a way to word it more elegantly than that? Do I have my rules straight there and do I cover everything needed in the reminder text? -Storm Note: I could also make this more powerful by making it only apply to you or less powerful by making it able to be countered, but I'm not sure either is a more fair option than this one. A cleaner, identical wording for the second ability would be "All spells have split second". Now that's way too strong.

I would be more than willing to drive the extra hour for that kind of prize support and I'm already at just about 3 to the Depot. Fact of the matter is you just don't see that kind of a prize structure for vintage and I'm sure it's well worth it for a lot of other people as well.
QF freaking T. I have absolutely zero problems with driving out to Grim for a tournament such as this. Of course I never had a problem driving out there for smaller NYSE/NEV events. As long as 495 is clear past NYC going further out on the island is really not a big deal. Us Vintage grinders are road warriors by nature. We have to be. The fat guy in me also misses that burrito place a couple doors down from Grim, and the post-tournament chowdown at either Friday's or Port Royal Grille. Just to add on to this. I know first hand that Grim is more than willing to host the event and have already asked me about how it effects the event I already have planned at Grim for the same weekend.

I believe a land is a wasted vote because creatures will be the highest likely vote getter. In order to not let creatures win, we have to all put our votes behind something that can defeat creature.
I don't think land can defeat creature, although I know nothing about EDH or the number of players who play it.
So, you are making a comment about something you know nothing about? That's fine, just know that it is the second most played "constructed" format the game has right now, behind standard. As someone who knows a ton about Commander, I will say that the casual crowd loves lands that can so plenty of things. Not to mention, most players love playign with non-basic lands. For me, the fewer basic lands, the better my decks are. I voted for land myself, as we have seen an instant/sorcery that stunk, we have seen a really broken artifact for Vintage (Crucible of Worlds), and we have seen a creature that can be debated on it's current state. Enchantments don't excite me at all, so land was the logical vote.

If I were a Mets fan I'd consider front-running a dump truck and then coming to an abrupt stop.
You know, as a moderator for this site, I think you would adhere to your own rules about staying on topic and not bashing part of your site's membership in a pretty cruel way. Indirectly telling Mets fans to commit suicide... seriously Nick. If that was your idea of a joke, then please take all the money you made from selling your collection to take sensitivity training instead of buying a house. That said, glad to see Vintage in any form occuring outside of the Northeastern quarter of the United States.

Interesting announcement. This is on the exact same day as a very large Legacy Grand Prix, and you are announcing it 3 weeks away from the actual tournament date. I wish you luck in this endeavor, but am wondering what turnout will be like for this. Hopefully very large!
The bigger concern would be the PTQ in North Jersey on the 6th. But again, most of those players wouldn't be coming to this event anyway.

Raph, it's Mike from the Joey Miller Days.
Will be stopping by Depot this weekend to bird in on the tournament.
going to be there?
Raph doesn't post on TMD, but my guess would be no since there is a giants game that starts at one. But Depot has a TV And being a diehard means letting nothing distract you from the game. Same reason that I won't be there.

Mike, I'll wait on a confirmation from you.
Done. (see what I did there) Also, dont miss the new and improved comic book depot now +1 tv and potentially new chairs and tables. If that TV is on the Giants game (and I figure out how to borrow half a deck), I could see myself showing up. Actually, looks like it will be damn near impossible to go. Holiday party the night before means no way I'll be in any shape to play.

I pretty much agree with everything Nick said.
I personally do not have the time, energy, or money to play Magic Online or any Online game for that matter. Nor do I enjoy the concept of lsoing any real interactions that occur. I used to play on MTGO, but that was years ago, when I did have some false ambition of being a pro player.
Furthermore, with all the complicated rules and interactions Vintage has, I would be quite nervous to play such a game on a computer where "Misclicking" has been a problem for many people. Not to mention, taking every turn, while you are on a clock, will lead to many people not being able to play the decks they should be able to play in Vintage, leading to a metagame that will just be too different from real Vintage.
