i took out a land i think in the two tez rounds i played vs tez and it worked well. Two of the game post board i went turn 1 duress and they had yag will i took a force and dropped tormods it slowed them down long enough for me to assemble a win.

Someone had mentioned tps earlier in the post and i had posted my horrid experience of running into fish playing main board true believers and being collateral damage to that it was somewhat relevant i was looking for more ideas on how oath plans to combat that when running into, you dont get to oath i win. Ya praying to not play dredge is just a bad plan and alot of the sideboard for dredge is relevant in other games. For instance, tormod's vs tezz game two so they can't go oops i got yags will i win is pretty good and needle is pretty versatile.

Ah, Dream Cache. I don't hold especially high expectations for that one, since Compulsive Research, which is often just better, wasn't good enough. And we tested that one quite a bit. Still, I applaud the out-of-the-box thinking.

You need more than 1 or 2 Massacres.

I don't entirely agree with this. I'm not sure that loading up on creature removal like an Extended control deck is an ideal solution. Show and Tell would seem to do more than a -2/-2 draft card would in terms of actually winning the game. I've found the Fish matchup to be not far from even, and I've been playing without any removal at all.

Now are you talking about oath vs fish or tps vs fish atog lord? Also with tps since that was what i had refered to and also kind of oath, i cant afford to give up the sideboard room to put in 4 death marks. The local meta has been flip flopping a lot as of late but the most recent tournament had 7 fish decks and 3-4 oath and no dredge. I think people are going to try to sneak in a first place dredge win next time assuming that people are going to take out sb cards for dredge because it hasnt made a showing in the last three or four tournaments.

i thought about its essentially the same as massacre except massacre is free in the fish match up and a free +1 to storm count. The problem is drawing it or finding a way to get it before the game gets stupidly twisted in their advantage. Fish in general is just an annoying match up for tps but with true believers running around main board its just a headache and a half.

I have seen alot of tps decks making a showing again, I tried playing the deck for my first time this month. The deck its self is very hard to pilot but when 3 of your 5 matches are fish and all three are running true believe main board you kinda just lose.. if you cant hit chain or massacre after side board and it resolves you just sit there and get beat to death. I was nothing more then collateral damage, their idea was to beat oath with it and it just happens to end my game too.

Talk about collateral damage ><\\\

Ya i strongly considered putting in more creature hate aside from massacre but i opted away from that and i wish i would have gone with my origonal idea of putting an edict and darkblast in the sideboard would have been a stellar move. C Dizzle was just like hey hows it going i dont need to cut my deck cause i went turn 1 true believe you lose lol.

We had fun game after our round matches were over. He didnt go turn one or two true believe and i went oh hey this is what tps does you lose. lol

See you guys in a month.

Yesterday was a ton of fun as usual but showing up with tps and running into main board true believers made me wanna cry a lil bit Neutral

10  Eternal Formats / Creative / why doesnt teps see more play? on: March 16, 2010, 07:09:19 pm
This next weekend will be my third vintage tournament and im wondering why teps doesnt see more play. Ive played noble fish the last two tournaments and done fairly well but i want to play something new. I was going to play oath but then i found a teps list and fell in love with it. So what i want to know is what is going to be the down side of playing teps what match ups are extremely hard and what i need to prepare myself for to do well.

Thank you.

You play 3 creatures and no Krosan Rec because having 3 plus tezz allows you to beat Sadistic Sacrament, even pre-board.  DSC is better than any other Tinker target because it kills in two swings, something none of the others do.  I played this deck and won MANY games with Tinker, games where all I had to do was drop a turn 2 or 3 Tinker with one or two counters backup, and my opponent scooped.  If your meta is heavy Welders and Tarmogoyfs, you may need Sphinx, but I would still prefer DSC; it's absolutely amazing.

DSC is really good also if you happen to draw him and go thirst for knowledge pitch DSC shuffle him draw 3 cards for free. Im testing a version of oath which is pretty stock except im running all four creatures. At first i tested with iona, elephant, and hellkite but more often then not i would mill a piece vault/key and sadly yagmoths and not have a tinker target. I really like having iona and elephant main board because it does directly effect the game as soon as it comes into play.

As far as the other deck getting to use oath if you blow up your own stuff its pretty much not important 99% of the time. If they have null rod out depending on what the board position is ive just hit the null rod a land and one of my own permanents with elephant which has been very effective.

we were the only two people playing fish i remember watching his game against josh round 2 before i played josh and he had a thirst for knowledge in his hand. So unless he forgot to write it he definitely had at least one.
13  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Superstars Feb28 Results! Lists! Pics! on: March 01, 2010, 12:04:18 pm
I definitely remember Eric playing thirst for knowledge. Which completely confused me but must have worked somewhat for him.
14  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: (New Card Discussion)Thada Adel, Acquisitor on: February 23, 2010, 10:53:46 am
I have been preping for a upcoming vintage tournament play testing mostly against stax and here is the break down of the stupidest game combo with theda adel.

My turn one land hierach lotus theda, pass turn with daze force spell pierce in my hand.
he goes workshop mox lodestone, i daze.
Turn two play a mox, swing with theda take crucibal of worlds. play the wasteland i drew win the game.

Theda is so good against stax if you get early board position with her you can play their game take a tangle wire while you beat them for two and take all their mox and just hands down win this card is going to be exciting.

Vs tezz you just go theda first hit remove robot from the game. If you decide you wanna take their vault key you better know whats in their hand and you better have counter back up. Otherwise just play it safe and remove it from the game and win.
15  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Worldwake vintage predictions - vroman on: February 20, 2010, 10:50:25 pm
theda adel is going to be a fish staple hands down. Against stacks and tezz you just play their game. Theda adel lands hits target stacks player you play their crucibal of worlds and proceed just shut them down completely with any strip mine/ wastelands effect. Tezz is slightly more intersting taking their vault key is potentially really good but also scary if they can bounce them to their hand play them and win. However thedas first hit you check their deck for first trinker, then tutors, and then those key pieces to their win strategy. If they drew their bot you remove time vault and pretty much put them on the edge as long as they dont resolve a hard cast inkwell you probably have the game set easy. Vs mirror who wasnt playing Theda game two i went turn one land mox hierach lotus theda go. He played land hierach mox pearl. Theda lands a hit i take his jitte play it and proceed to destroy him because he cant do anything about my getting one a beat stick and two a jitte out of his deck.

Trygon will probably always have a sideboard spot in fish at least because it gives you some needed versatility vs other decks but i would be greatly surprised to not see Theda floating around a lot.
16  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: Noble Fish: GUW variants here! on: February 20, 2010, 06:13:34 pm
so i have been hearing a lot of about playing fish without stifle seems like it potentially could be really good, stifle has been mostly a pitch on a force for me and ive been testing with mana leaks i like it so far but i want opinions the other option would either be spell snares, negates or maybe mana drain.
17  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: SuperStars Jan Pearl Results! Lists! Pics are up now! on: February 20, 2010, 05:34:28 pm
i was playing against workshop on the play and went turn one land lotus crack for theda pass turn. Sitting now with a strip mine spell pierce force daze in my hand. He plays a turn one lodestone golem which gets dazed. I draw another land hit him with theda take his lotus, next turn he plays a sphere effect which i counter. Then theda gets me a crucibal of worlds and i crucibal lock him down, hes scoops angrily and crys about how broken theda adel is. Also taking tangle wire while you have the advantage is pretty stupid you basically turn their game on them and just force them to lose its pretty horrible.
18  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: SuperStars Jan Pearl Results! Lists! Pics are up now! on: February 17, 2010, 08:00:30 pm
anyone have any opinions on natures claim?
19  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: SuperStars Jan Pearl Results! Lists! Pics are up now! on: February 11, 2010, 04:14:29 pm
Thada can only hit artifacts and youre absolutely right that the bounce could potentially be a problem. However being able to look through their entire deck and go one bounce two bounce three bounce four i win is pretty good lol. I think as a main board card she is much stronger then trygon predator, he will probably still be a sideboard care but i haven't decided 100% on that yet either.

As for spell pierce I ran it main board in fish and i liked it alot, it won me quite a few force of will show downs and just stopped ants and i believe galen in top 8. They would tap out for a dark ritual with no artifact backup and pretty much go play land discard good card pass turn because of it.

I didn't see who said it earlier but i wanted to respond about the tendrils vs fish match up. Of course magic is a card game but if they drop most of their hand to adnausem and you dont see a pact of negation all you need is a stiffle to win once that blow their wad and go tendrils for 15 storm you take 2 they gain 2 probably some where around 5 life and you beat them to death with a single creature. I also put in gaddock teegs specifically for that match up I got really lucky going turn one meddling mage tendrils turn 2 top deck gaddock pretty much just ends their game most lists i have seen only have one counter to gaddock and thats chain vapor.

The other possibility i have been looking at and may have been done before, i just saw it in a recent deck list is spell snare vs spell pierce. Spell snare stops alot of cards in the format just dead in their tracks but it doesnt win the yagmoth force force spell pierce battles so im really not 100% sure yet. There is so many good two drops in vintage that i really want to add it but i just cant justify it yet. They Need to make a good counter spell in Rise of the Eldrazi thats cost one and is counter target spell with converted mana cost 3 or less for 1 that wouldnt be broken right?

Please give me some feed back im still pretty new to vintage and im always willing to hear someones insight with a bit more exp then me.

20  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: SuperStars Jan Pearl Results! Lists! Pics are up now! on: February 03, 2010, 07:12:22 pm
so ive been playing with theda adel and im pretty sure its going to replace trygron predator in fish its absolutely broken if i hit tezz twice with it they pretty much just lose and if they dont get vault and key in their hand before she attacks i cant get vault key combo and take infinite turns. Vs stacks taking a crucible of worlds and blowing up all there lands with my one strip mind was pretty retarded. Its really going to effectively change fish and make it a better more consistent deck i think
21  Eternal Formats / Creative / theda adal discussion where? on: January 27, 2010, 12:00:22 pm
So my post got locked but i dont see a discussion this card could someone link it, because i surely cant find it.
22  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: seal of primordium vs naturalize. Why do you choose seal? on: January 27, 2010, 11:47:35 am
thats my biggest concerns is vs counter I played ugw fish at my first vintage tournament and placed 3-4 but i noticed that every good tezz deck runs rebuild and having krosan grip could have won me games.
23  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: seal of primordium vs naturalize. Why do you choose seal? on: January 27, 2010, 11:22:18 am
What about krosan grip how does that stack up vs seal and naturalize?
24  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: SuperStars Jan Pearl Results! Lists! Pics are up now! on: January 27, 2010, 11:10:49 am
So I wanted to ask this here because I'm going to be playing with you guys anyone have any comments on Thada Adel, Acquisitor? Seems like a pretty horrible card for standard but absolutely broken in vintage.
25  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: SuperStars Jan Pearl Results! Lists! Pics are up now! on: January 26, 2010, 11:09:07 am
I like you lotushead I really do however I didn't make 78 player errors it was more like 10 which wasn't bad in my opinion for not knowing what 3/4 of the cards in vintage even do and it being my first tournament I was happy with my result. I guess I'm not a 12 year old beating David but ill take what I got. Brent played his game well didn't keep a bad hand and got a descent amount of luck. By the time top four came around I had been up for almost two days ill remember to get some sleep before i come back in march.

Btw you got like the worst pictures of me possible! lol

Take care, see you in March.
