1  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Split/1st at MN Dreamer's Mox Pearl Tourney with Christmas Gifts on: February 18, 2006, 09:52:03 am
Do you know what Top 8 was?  and any of the decklists?  also, your friend's WTF top 2 deck, was it the one that ran some of the threshold/Gro cards?
2  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Wild Zombies on: January 02, 2006, 11:29:45 am
The thing the nether shadows/ghouls/ichorids do is make the stax matchup bacially a bye. I won a game where i mulled to 3 andhe went first turn trini second turn crucible strip my bazzar...
Dang...  I would have felt really bad if I was the stax player...  I'm assuming you weren't playingall of those right?  Which one specificly did you play?

Anyways, I just heard of this deck and I'm very interested.  The deck deffinatly needs more cards to affect the oppontents game (additionaly to Duress + Theropy).  I'm thinking Null rod would be amazing.  But As I tried to find room for it, I could not figgure out what to cut.  Confidant is an auto-in (as I think we've concluded).

I'm personally a fan of Ashen ghoul b/c it's a beat stick...or maybe just cause it's soo rogue.  I can easily see the argument that getting 3 creatures on top might take 1-3 turns in which it might be a little slow.  But as we are already crunching to find room for cards, I don't think I'll make the cut...   ...maybe SB for STAX.

The biggest issue I see is weather to play Red or Blue or Both.  I'm currently testing it with both.  Red simply for the deathspark and Barbarian Ring.  Blue for wonder, Recall, Walk.  I've added gemstone mines to my mana base.  To be honest, I don't think it's gonna work out.  I'm thinking you have to go with one of the other.  And in the end, I think blue wins.  Why?  b/c wonder gives you the game vs. NON-combo/GWS oath.  Null Rod will help vs. Combo-oath.  And time walk looks solid enough to be in this deck.  Granted, it doesn't abuse it as much as other decks, but it'll give your guys another chance to attack, card advantage /w Confidant, and a few more critters.  As for recall...well, it's recall.

Admitidly, I have not tested the deck all that much, I'm very worried about Chalice and Pithing Needles.
3  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: The real Dragon power;) on: December 21, 2005, 08:42:19 am
Every long game you play is a 50/50 shot at best.

Crucible + Strip
Blood Moon (Mountains and a white mox... good times)
Goblin Sharpshooter (seriously, if you go long --> kill this guy somehow)
Humility
I still disagree  Razz.  Dragon is packed with answers.  It's farily easy to play around everything.  I have never lost because they had 1 hate card (except blood moon).  But few people play blood moon + same with humility.  Crucible strip will beat most decks.  I comes down to drawing that sacred ground.  Goblin Sharpshooter...I'll give you that.  But instants like mana drain, FoW, cunning wish, np.  Xantid swarm takes care of most problems.  Pithing needles take care of most the rest.  There's just so many ways to win once the late game comes.  Even if you don't have to protection of all those cards listed above, you still have animate dead+ necormancy, Fow, Duress, and if all they can do is conterspell, then you can always just go animate....animate....animate ...

In the late game, I've rarly ever lost.  One of the few times I've lost is when they drew 5-6/8 SB cards against me.  If he would have drawn one less, I would have won...

If the game goes long, you are most likely losing anyway because the deck isn't designed to play long games.
I disagree.  Dragon is played for it's inevitability.  It has many outs and plays around most things.  Past 3rd turn, one usually does not attempt to go off without being able to back it up (with the exception of when one is forced to b/c he and/or she is about to lose).  This is fairly easy to accomplish though for Bazaars + Squees are fairly efficient.
5  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: ~Whcih deck to play~ T1 power, 10-proxie on: August 26, 2005, 11:54:06 pm
Srry? I just copyed + pasted the list from the ABS fourms...here's the link if you guys want it:

6  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: ~Whcih deck to play~ T1 power, 10-proxie on: August 26, 2005, 09:09:26 am
What do you guys think about this list?  it's from ABS:
Win: 8
4 Oath of Druids
1 Tinker
1 Darksteel Colossus
1 Ancient Hydra/Akroma (If you expect any welders, go with Hydra)
1 Gaea's Blessing

Land:20
4 Forbidden Orchard
3 City of Brass
2 Island
1 Tropical Island
1 Underground Sea
4 Polluted Delta
4 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine

Protection: 15
4 Duress
4 Chalice of the Void
4 Force of Will
R Balance
2 Swords to Plowshares

Get it NOW:13
4 Brainstorm
3 Impulse
2 Thirst for Knowledge
R Demonic Tutor
R Mystical Tutor
R Vampiric Tutor
R Enlightened Tutor

Accel:4
R Mox Sapphire
R Mox Emerald
R Mox Jet
R Mana Crypt

SB:
1 Woodripper
1 Pristine Angel
3 Choke (deceptively amazing)
3 Spawning Pit
2 Echoing Truth
1 Pyroclasm
4 other slots

I like the SB, but I question it's control abilities with the dramatic lessening of the reactive counterspells, as opposed to, the pro-active chalices.

Then there's the worse loop error where you have to pass priority and your opponent kills you all because you messed up the loop pattern.
As in disenchant effects and StPs?
8  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: ~Whcih deck to play~ T1 power, 10-proxie on: August 24, 2005, 02:37:12 pm
Ok so I've limited my decks down to:
Oath
Dragon
Aggro Workshop
CS

I've desided against playing STAX because the meta will mostly be stax, in which case in the mirror match, the result will depend on luck and skillz.  Luck being an uncontrolable factor, it comes down to skill.  I don't think I'm a flawless player at any deck and I don't play test like crazy...usually...but regardless, even if I was a fairly good player, assuming my opponent is too, it would be a 50/50 game.  Dependent on luck.

Why is Aggro Workshop such a bad deck for the meta-game right now?  It beats stax (to what i hear) and it does ok against oath right?  It has chalice and Seal...  What's so bad about it?

...As for CS...I'm still having troubles with it ='(...

And can anyone think of any reasons to play dragon over oath or vise-versa?  I want to eliminate of of them, but I don't know which.
9  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: ~Whcih deck to play~ T1 power, 10-proxie on: August 24, 2005, 09:25:58 am
Well I started t1 playing budjet dragon (Basicly the ABS biuld with Blue for Intuition/Force of Will/Lim-Dul's Vault).  I was playing Purple Hat's build (I'm running Witness + Hellkite as my win instead) yesturday and I'm quite comfortable with it.  The hardest thing for me, however, is desiding when to mulligan, and when not to.  And I also found it problematic when I draw glimmervoid in my begining hand as one of 1/2 mana sources.  (I'm running Witness + Hellkite ATM instead).  And like Purpple hat said, Dragon.dec dies to LD anyways...   ...but with STAX (and alota other decks) running 4x Wastelands 1x Strip mine, losing my Bazaars REALLY hurt...not to mention they get the crucible occatinaly as well.

I'm also very comfortable with Oath...to be honest, I don't see many ways you can mess up playing it.  Also, it has enough counter-spells to cover up your occatinal mistakes.

So basicly, if I were to play one of these 2 decks, which do you think would perform better.  2 tournements ago, 2 Dragon.dec made t8, last tournement, 2 oath made t8...

...which, in general, has the better match-up vs. STAX? Control Slaver?

EDIT:I was just thinking again, and was wondering why was Aggro Workshop eliminated from the list.  I believe the reason was that it does not have a great match-up vs. Oath.  But aren't the chalices and the seal of cleansings sufficent?  Or does Oath just counter too much?
10  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: ~Whcih deck to play~ T1 power, 10-proxie on: August 23, 2005, 08:06:59 pm

Wow...so I have a pretty handsome list of decks to choose from:
 • Dragon.dec
 • Control Slaver
 • Welder STAX
~ is the proper name for this 5c STAX? or is that diff?
[li]Ironworks[/li] ~I would like to hear some comments on this deck, is it just too new?  My testing with it shows it to be highly resiliant against most forms of hate...I've been haveing trouble with "chalice for 2" though.
[li]Oath[/li] ~It's a solid and easy deck to play.
12  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: ~Whcih deck to play~ T1 power, 10-proxie on: August 23, 2005, 01:06:12 pm
Well, my playing style is deffinatly not passive control (ie. CS).  I tested it a little bit...and I gotta say...I'm kinda lost.  But b/c of that, I'm gonna keep testing it until i play it desently.  However, I don't think I'll be bringing it to Dreamers...even by then, I'll most likly question my ability to wield it flawlessly.

I think I'm more of a combo person.  or combo/aggro...I dis-like complete aggro decks (ie. R/G Tempo)

So if I were to chose a deck based upon my playing style, it would be the Ironworks Deck, Aggro Workshop, or Oath.

I would like to hear more supporting arguements for each of those decks.  I would like to have a 2nd-ary deck b/c, like I said before, I don't think I'll be able to secsessfully play CS.
13  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: ~Whcih deck to play~ T1 power, 10-proxie on: August 22, 2005, 07:23:04 pm
So what I'm hearing:

Control Slaver - b/c it's a good deck...just don't f**k up.
Some Kind of Fish Deck - meta-game call...what you guys think?Aggro Workshop - b/c it beats Fish and Stax.

When you guys speak of stacks, which varient do you mean?  I can't play uba stax...not enough proxies (4x Bazaar, 4x Workshop, P9).
14  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: ~Whcih deck to play~ T1 power, 10-proxie on: August 22, 2005, 03:22:05 pm
What do you guys think about Aggro Workshop?

How are it's match-ups vs. Mean Deak Gifts? TPS? Control Slaver?

...Yes, it's another tread asking "Which deck should I play in my meta-game?"

Dreamer's (<--store's name) 10 proxie T1 Power tournement.  Turn out is usally pretty good, I'd guess just under 30 people.

I have most all cards excluding:
4x Mana Drain
4x Bazaar of Bagdad
9x Power 9
1x Library of Alexandria
4x Mishra's Workshop

I do have cards like Berserk, Mana Crypt, Force of Will (ect.)  And please keep in mind, I get 10 proxies.

The meta-game as far as I know:
A good amount of Stax, but most of them Uba Stax
A handful of Fish decks.  Most of them are R/U...but there are other varients.
Smaller handful of Mean Deak Gifts and some TPS.
A couple of Oath decks.
1-2 of that new affinty combo t1 deck. ~decklist below~
There was oddly enough, 1 WW deck...

In there previous tournement, the t8 was as followed:

1) Oath ~Classical, running 4 daze, 0 duress, and Akroma + Spirit of the Night
2) Salvager Combo Oath

I appolagize in advance for my noobish question.  I've been looking at gifts decks and was wondering how it won?  Usally decks just have DSC as a 2ndary win condition with tinker, however, in meandeck gifts, I was unable to see any other win condition besides the tendrils of agony in SB.  And the deck doesn't seem like it can pull that off very consistantly.

So, quick n00b question:  Meandeck gifts whins by DSC beatdow right?  And has trendrils in SB as 2nd-ary win condition?

I appolagize in advance if this question was already answered.

What do you guys think of Mana Drain in TPS?  I've seen it being ran in quanities of 0, 2, and 4.  It seems like it would help...but I maybe wrong.

It's not his deck, it's someone elses biuld.  Wink
21  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [semi-budget] Aggro Workshop on: July 28, 2005, 08:21:30 am
15 lands is enough for me.  I'm satisfied with my lands draws.  I don't think DSC is a good option in my meta-game however.  There's a handful of StP, and I feel it would just be a waste of a turn/tinker... (even though I gain 11 life).

Is memory jar good in this deck? To be honest, I've never tested it.  What would I take out for it? 1 intuition?

List updated.
22  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Aggro Workshop vs. Cerebal Assasin on: July 27, 2005, 09:39:56 pm
On the other hand, if you want to keep running the show, and everyone is packing disenchant-style effects, running TPS or Gifts with the primary goal of Tendrills kill (so as not to run The Iron Giant into StP) is probably the way to go.

Acctually, I did biuld this deck. (TPS)  I goldfished with it and thought it was amazing.  Then I tried it in play testing and suked with it...   ...so it's obviously my playing.  I'm going to need more expirance with the deck before I bring it into the tournement.  Until then, I need a different deck, I think I've concluded that Workshop aggro will be the better choice because it has been better developed (besides other reasons).  I made a new thread with a deck list.  Plz help me out.  (thread title: [semi-budget] Aggro Workshop)

I've been playing Oath recently and have been dominating my meta-game... (not so hard to do).  However, there has grown alot of oath hate with natralizes/disenchants, swords to plowshares, ect.

No one here has real power, mana drains, bazaar of bagdads, ect.

My current decklist [july 27th]:
~AGGRO WORKSHOP~

// Mana
2 Polluted Delta
1 Island
4 Mishra's Workshop
2 Flooded Strand
4 Wasteland
1 Mana Vault
3 Volcanic Island
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Jet
1 Mana Crypt
1 Tolarian Academy
1 Strip Mine
1 Sol Ring
1 Black Lotus
// Artifacts
1 Trinisphere
3 Crucible Of Worlds
4 Chalice of the Void
// Creatures
4 Triskelion
1 Sundering Titan
1 Razormane Masticore
1 Duplicant
4 Juggernaut
4 Goblin Welder
// Spells
4 Thirst For Knowledge
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Intuition
1 Tinker
3 Sphere of Resistance

A few cards i have in mind to fill up that slot:
intuitions? Gifts ungiven? Force of Wills? Memory Jar? DSC? and Duplicant?

Aggro Workshop - wins through mana denail/artifact control (Trinisphere, Sphere of Resistance, Chalise of the Void, ect) and Big Fatties hitting the board early in the game useing Goblin Welder and Mishra's Workshop.

So yeah, plz help me with my deck.  (the 10 proxies are power, and 4 workshops.)

I think I've concluded that I will go with Aggro Workshop...even though it's not as fun, I believe to be the correct meta-game call.

Edit:

I'm having 2nd thoughts.

If people start playing alot of Disenchants and StP's, why play another deck that is even more vulnerable to hate?

I assume you are refering to C.A.?  That is an interesting point.  All i got is 4x Animate deads that needs to resolve and stay in play.  I have no way to recur them either.  So perhaps this is the desiding factor?  If anyone disagrees, please state your arguments.

...but, it rus goblin welder too.  Meaning disenchants don't really do anything.  And stps doesn't hurt THAT much.  If they target trike, it's just giving them another turn, trike would kill it's self in responce if the situation was provided.  You wouldn't try to pull off the dragon combo if you know they run stps.

I can see it being played in limited...maybe.  If somehow your pod opens 2+ and no one is rare drafting, you can pick them up and play them.  10 cards = 25% of the deck before the hand is drawn...however, it may not be enough.

i think ca is more fun.

I agree...it's crazy fun.   It's like one of those jank decks that win a different way every other time.  And possessed portal is just TE3H!
@oldbsturgeon, don't cut it, it's awsome.  You'll almost always have somehting you WANT to discard or 1-2 squee goblin naboos.  Stick a sundering titan on the board and beat down.  It's AMAZING.  And it's removal of any sort.  They also must immediatl have an answer in their hand, otherwise, they can't do anything.  Becuse it's in your deck, you can control when it hits play, thus it's amazing power.

Question: Should Sphere of Resistance be in Aggro Workshop?

Aggro Workshop-
Abuses Mishra's workshop and power out artifacts such as Juggernaught, Chalise of the void, trinisphere, Triskelion, Sundering titan, ect.  Also uses Gobin Welder for recurtion of these artifacts.

Cerebal Assasin-
Still in it's early stages of evolution.  The deck, in my opinion, has not been fully developed; the biuld of the deck has not been perfected.  This deck abuses Bazaar of Bagdad to draw alot of cards and dump nice fatties into it's graveyard such as Sundering Titan.  It also uses Squee, Goblin naboo as a part of it's drawing ingine in combo with Bazaar of Bagdad.  The biuld includes 1 copy of Worldgorger Dragon and 1 kill condition for the WGD combo.  It uses animate dead to recur these creatures or set the WGD combo off.  (WGD combo- gives you infinate mana)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My t1 scrub meta-game (10-proxy tournement):
1 (W)orse (T)han (F)ish
1 R/w Gobs ~white for disenchant and stp
1 Old skool WW ~with whipcorders and glorious anthem
1 Draw 7 ~ABS budget biuld + semi-power
1 The Rock ~t1.5 biuld with t1 tutors
1-4 Random decks
I've been playing Oath recently and have been dominating my meta-game... (not so hard to do).  However, there has grown alot of oath hate with natralizes/disenchants, swords to plowshares, ect.  So I desided I need a change of decks.  I think I've narrowed it own to: Parfait, Ceberal Assasin, or Aggro Worshop.
Everyone told me Parfait sux and is not worth playing.  So I'll scratch that off for now.
Aggro Workshop is very eassy to play, and durring goldfishing, it looks very powerful.  Note I have little expirance with T1 decks.  It is weaker than it use to be senice Trinisphere was restricted.  I'm not sure my biuld is optimal, and would like seggestions for it.
Cerebal Assasin (C.A.) is a really stange deck.  As I've stated before, I believe the deck to have alot of potential, however, the optimal deck biuld has not been found.  I've been told that this deck would be prefered for my meta-game.  But in my opinion, Aggro Workshop seems stronger.  In contrast, CA is more consistant at getting trike + welder combo beacuse it draws SOOOOOOO much.
I doubt it'll see play.  I think the reason tog went dead was b/c it was having trouble controling the eairly game (I don't know for sure, I'm a t1 newb.)  But having that card in your deck is, IMO, a bad idea.  Why?
1) Card disadvantage.  It doesn't do anything for you.
2) It's a sorcery, makes it even worse...can't leave mana open
3) too situational, really only good before the final swing
5) Doesn't do anything
6) I don't care that i skiped #4
7) I don't care #1 + #5 repeats.
Maybe if it was an instant and can trap and costs less or something weird like that.
