It's not broken
Not broken? Maybe in your opinion. This guy has some pretty sick game ending combos if you can make him survive long enough. + Azorius Guildmage + Crowd Favorites + Rimescale Dragon GG. I didnīt think about using it in combination with other cards, only on its own. So itīs even better than I thought

Swell of Courage Instant (U) Creatures you control get +2/+2 until end of turn. Reinforce X - ( , Discard this card: Put X +1/+1 counters on target creature.) This card is EVIL. This card should be in the banned list of type4, as itīs an uncountereable "I win the game at instant speed" card.

Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [01/13/08] The Mana Clash Open 2- Vintage vs Legacy...The Ultimate Grudge Ma

Have you thought of a different tourney, more like one organized by WoTC, in which you would have several rounds of Legacy, and several rounds of Vintage? Just like Worlds, but with 2 formats. Maybe it could be too long, but you could divide it in 2 days, and organize several alternative-tourneys for those who doesnīt make the cut the first day. You could copy the idea for some Waterbury, if it does work and if it receives positive feedback. Or you could even create one anual Waterbury Worlds for old formats!

@ Steve: Do you plan to write an article about this deck anytime soon? If not I would like to since I think one is warranted for the community at large. I'd definitely run it by Meandeck for critiquing.
Your 'Storm Returns' article at mtgchicago.com was fantastic, another one focusing on one list would be great!

I have recently been hired by a new website to write weekly Vintage articles which should be up every Tuesday.
Congratulations! I hope the site won't turn into a premium one, so your articles can somehow revive the discussion about Vintage here.

Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Future Sight spoiled: Street Wraith - 4 of in every deck?

Arenīt 4 Street Wraiths tailor made for a Doomsday deck?
The first ones depended on Chromatic Sphere to draw the Ancestral for the standard combo, the last ones only included one, but would be incredibly improved by including Street Wraiths. It would lead to more solutions and to even more 5card piles.
Now that stax decks are not prevalent as they used to be, a combo deck with 4Duress/Unmasks, 4FOW/BluePact could be playable again, to say the least.

Just so you guys know, I'll be doing a Type 4 set review for mtgSalvation sometime in the next couple weeks. Great news! By the way, of all type4 writers, I think Mastrianoīs ones were (are) the most entertaining ones, like this one or that one. Iīm not suggesting to copy his style, but to have them as a reference.

Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Myriad Games Bonus Tournament sans Yawgmoth's Will?

I think the argument he is trying to make here, or at least the argument I would try to make is that if Yawgmoth's Will is such a good card that it needs to be banned; why aren't people running more answers to it?
Maybe because they are either playing faster decks abusing Will to combat other Will-centered decks, and because the other part of the Vintage community (the greatest part, by the way) has demonstrated time and time again that itīs very slow at adaptation.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Premium Article] An Honest Look at the Restricted List
|
on: February 27, 2007, 02:11:08 pm

Voltaic Key and Dream Halls are what I am talking about. Unrestricted, the current metagame/deck theory can handle it.
Has there ever been a card that was Restricted, then UnRestricted, then Restricted again?
That is not a good analogy. It does not have happened yet because WoTC has been careful with the unrestrictions. Probably with the exception of Doomsday (which proved not be broken enough, in spite of the discovery of the Beacon combo by Jeek), WoTC hasnīt unrestricted cards with a high potential of creating new monster_decks, but because they were thought to be completely harmless. And that is not the point with D.Halls. A deck casting Halls off Drains, and chaining Gifts with Gifts, and AKs with AKs is, at the very least, suspected of being able to re-restrict again Dream Halls in the very near future.

Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Poll: Which Card is the Best Candidate for Unrestriction?
|

None of them
What's problematic about Voltaic Key? Nothing. Iīm my opinion it doesnīt deserve to be on the Restricted List. But... It would be nice to be able to get the DCI to unrestrict something. Itīs just that I donīt want Wizards to unrestrict (another different thing is restrictions) any card based on our opinions. Iīve just seen the results of your poll, and the second card they want to unrestrict is one of the most powerful combo engines Iīve ever played with. Why do you want the DCI to unrestrict something? To shake up the format with a powerful card and make new tier1 decks with that card? Because if the card is lame even as a 4-of, whatīs the point of unrestricting it if people arenīt even going to play with it?, just for the satisfaction of making WoTC change the list?

Ok, instead of spending a week arguing about this, why doesn't someone suggest a decklist that would break library of alexandria to show it's broken?
Thatīs the same as asking people sometime ago to show their unveiled or possible combos with Doomsday (Desire-Beacon) while discussing for its unrestriction. Itīs never going to happen.

A blue spell, costing three mana, which gave an extra turn provided that at least four creatures were under your control would be interesting Wouldnīt it be broken as a 4-of in any deck supporting ETW (every combo/control-combo deck seems to be maindecking them right now)?

And Treacherous Urge seems very weak to me. A lot of times it will just flunk out on you and I when someone attacks you you want a good answer, not a coinflip like this.
Treacherous Urge Instant
Target opponent reveals his or her hand. You may put a creature card from it into play under your control. If you do, it gains haste until end of turn. Sacrifice it at end of turn.Youīre forgetting about stealing a Bosh, or a Memnarch, or a Masticore-type, or an Academy Rector, or even a Chainer! In your opponentīs turn! And, in the worst-case scenario, its a creature killer.
