They also enabled 'Vintage Gold Queues' which are 2 player games but they cost 10 tix to enter, the prize is of 5 boosters (which could easily be sold for 3+ tix a piece, so you get a 3x I guess?)

http://magic.wizards.com/en/MTGO/articles/archive/magic-online-holiday-festival-2014-11-12#vintagegold

It's a temporary thing though, I agree that I would like to see the prizes of a format like Vintage a bit boosted up since the cost of entry to the format is much higher than standard.

Ok, this is actually amazing.

http://magic.wizards.com/en/MTGO/articles/archive/magic-online-holiday-festival-2014-11-12

They are even awarding a non-foil Vintage Masters set to the top 3 players who participate in the tournament and don't use any P9. Meaning, you can play without any power, and if you end up 20th (meaning 19th and above all use P9) , you will earn a non-foil Vintage Masters Set.

Wizards is taking a step to improve the format here, and there are Vintage and Legacy qualifiers to the Event.

Quote
Of course, Vintage needs a Constructed focus too. That's where the Holiday Festival Vintage Championship comes in. This championship has a different qualification system: You can qualify for this December 20 event by going 4-0 or 3-1 in any of the Vintage Daily Events from Wednesday, December 10, through Friday, December 19. Even if you don’t have a robust Vintage collection, you’ll have a shot at qualifying for the championship. You can qualify through Legacy Daily Events during the same time period—but it’s a bit harder; you’ll have to go 4-0 in a Legacy Daily Events to get in that way.

If you qualified through Legacy, you might be asking yourself, “Why should I bother playing in a Vintage championship event if I don’t have all the Vintage cards I want for my deck?” Well, good news! In addition to the prizes listed in the tables below, we will award a nonfoil set of Vintage Masters to each of the top three finishing players in the Vintage Championship who don't have any of the Vintage Masters special rarity, or Power Nine, cards in their deck! Note, that's not the top three finishing players over all, but the top three who are not playing any of the Power Nine. Theoretically, you could come in 20th place and, as long as 1st through 19th all had at least one the Power Nine in their decks (including sideboards), you would be the first of three to receive a nonfoil Vintage Masters set. This set will be in addition to any prizes those players win based on their final standing in the event. If you win one of these sets, we hope it will help you to join the ranks of the Magic Online Vintage community! (Note: These sets will be granted by Wizards of the Coast within a few days of the championship’s completion.)

I encourage everyone to participate Smile

Hey there, I thought about snapcaster. I'll test him after Monastery Swiftspear, I'm not convinced by the elder... tried running 3, 2 and don't really like him at all.

Will give 4 Missteps a shot and 3 probes. Don't really know how to fit the 3 Pyroblast MD, would love to try that.

My SB is pretty standard for now:

4 Cages
4 Leyline of the Void
4 Ingot Chewer
2 Pyroblast
1 Mountain

Hey guys,

I listened Steven's Menendian podcast, episode 30. In it, he mentions thinking that UR delver with Treasure Cruise will play better in a different shell than his usual UR -role flexible- list.

I've been tinkering with the cards, and testing this weekend and here's what I got. I would really like some feedback on this list, btw, I think this discussion deserves it's own topic so we don't pollute Steve's UR Delver topic.

Creatures:

2x Jeskai Elder
4x Young Pyromancer
4x Delver

Spells:

4x Force of Will
4x Gitaxian Probe
4x Lightning Bolt
4x Preordain
2x Spell Pierce
3x Mental Misstep
4x Treasure Cruise
1x Brainstorm
1x Ponder
1x Ancestral Recall
1x Time Walk

Artifacts

1 Lotus
1 Sapphire
1 Ruby

Lands

3 Wasteland
1 Stripmine
4 Scalding Tarn
3 Delta
4 Volcanic
3 Island

I think my mana base could be a bit off. This deck plays a more 'aggro-disruptive' strategy, every wasteland also builds towards cruise. The Jeskai Elder is still a -maybe- for me, I like that it pitches to FoW and drawing a card in Vintage could mean winning a game... the problem is that on turn 2 you often want to be casting the Pyromancer, and Elder could be a bit too slow for a format like Vintage.

Cards that I would like to test are Monastery Swiftspear and perhaps Dig Through Time (though I don't really see DTT being good in this list).

Would love feedback on the list, manabase, the 'plan' etc.

Cheers,

I'm not sure about 1 null rod in a deck with no tutors, no gush and only cantrip manipulation. It looks nice laying on the table but the chance of having it when you need it seems marginal.

I actually really like a singleton Null Rod.  I was running a single Null Rod in my Delver decks for the last few months when the metagame shifted to alot of UW decks and Slaver briefly after that.

The main reason to run a Null Rod is if you are going to play in the Northeast, where lots of control pilots rely on Engineered Explosives type cards to wipe your board. Also, Null Rod is REALLY good against Bomberman.  You only need 1 for it to make a big difference.

I found that pre-Cruise Delver sometimes has trouble with Bomberman, which can assemble the combo just before you can tempo them out.   Null Rod is the super answer to that.  I played a singleton Null Rod in my Delver deck at the last local tournament, and beat the Bomberman pilot that knocked me out of top 4 the last time.

Finally, it's great in the late game against control decks because it makes your Spell Pierces/Flusterstorms relevant in the late game.  After alot of testing, one Null Rod total between maindeck and SB was perfect.  It's fine in the SB, but I actually felt that I had more room in my maindeck, so I slipped it in there.

As I said in the VSL interview, Null Rod is tactical, not strategic here.  It's not to deny mana per se, it's to deal with the kinds of things I just described, while also slowing Will, etc.

Hey steven, that's great to know.

Could you point me to the episode of your podcast which points about how to rebuild UR Delver with Cruise? Really interested to hear about it Smile

Cheers!

What are you guys cutting to include cruise?

What would you cut from the 'base' Menendian list?
7  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: UR Delver on: October 04, 2014, 02:12:02 pm
Anyone tested treasure cruise? I suggested in the card thread that it could be very strong in this deck, but haven't tested it myself.
8  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Treasure Cruise on: September 15, 2014, 02:52:46 am
UR Pyrolmancer could use some of this... Will have to test it.
9  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: UR Delver on: July 22, 2014, 06:44:00 pm
isn't a main gameplan of this deck vs mud to resolve the trygon and ride him to victoriy?

If that is what Smmenen had in mind, I would be very surprised. Ideally, the deck should be more reliant on Cheap artifact destruction, while beating down. If you can resolve Trygon due to your Grudges and claims blowing up their spheres, then that is a great bonus. Trygon should not be the main plan, it should be a support plan, because you can't count on resolving trygon every game.

Is anyone still playing the mini green splash?  I've played some practice matches and feel like the strength of predator and grudge is almost equally negated by having less basics and a third color vs. shops.

Another thing Green gives you is a better Oath matchup, as well as the ability to destroy random enchantments like moat. I agree with you on Trygon however, it feels rather clunky and slow, and Delver very much wants to leave up mana.

Totally agree on Trygon, as well as how games against shops have been playing out for me. Resolving a Trygon can happen, but it's much more important to try to resolve either of:

a) T1 Delver
b) Pretty early Pyromancer.

On G1 if you're not starting the match you'll usually be in pretty bad shape if you didn't hold a hand with FoW.

I agree on the Green against Oath, however I'm not sure if that is enough to go with green (I really love Grudge MD though). This deck has a lot of counter power, so it could be feasible to defend a single Cage against oath and have 4 SB.
10  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: UR Delver on: July 22, 2014, 11:10:29 am
Hey guys,

Been testing this deck online, how would you tune the MD to face a lot of workshops?

Make sure you have an Ancient Grudge, 4 bolts, and a mystical tutor maindeck. Running Wastelands helps a lot in this matchup too.

I think that running one more MD mana source should help the match... not sure about running wastelands in a Gush deck though. I've never been able to resolve one Trygon Predator against Shops either. If Steel Hellkite happens to resolve you can only kill it with Trygon+Bolt or MD Grudge, if it hit's you it doesn't matter how many tokens, since when they activate for zero they will be gone.

Would love to hear more feedback for this match.

Hey guys,

Been testing this deck online, how would you tune the MD to face a lot of workshops?

Haven't been a huge fan of Trygon, still waiting for Smmenen's tournament report so I can understand them better.

Hey there,

Congrats on your finish. I was wondering how would you orient the deck to face a more European metagame? (full of Workshops)

Cheers!

Atog,

I totally agree with you on the interface thing. It's horrible, actually MTGO is one of the hugest UI failures I've seen when we talk about Game UI (which is not a trivial UI field). I guess the amount of players is just a reflection of how much people love MTG. Clearly that's not good enough for me. We should really have a decent piece of software and by that I mean:

1. An consistent UI
2. A cross platform client

Both of which are not rocket science, the first one is harder than the second one... but I just can't believe how little has Wizards actually learned from ALL the previous versions of MTGO.

I'm not a Ph.D in HCI, but I'm a Software Engineer with 5 Startups on my Back ans a MS Equivalent Degree... so I totally hear you. My guess is that if Wizards doesn't start to take the next version of MTGO seriously they are exposing themselves to other games like Heartstone (which is really well done). Today you just can't ignore mobile, everything is going there...

Wizards needs to step up on their game, build real permanent strong teams that can actually learn and build on top of previous failure... I smell tons of low quality contract work in v4 (and all the previous versions).

Cheers.

I'm writing a tournament report that will answer those questions.

Would love to read it, you still working on it?  Wink

I know we are using a mostly Blue SB , but , what do you guys think about :

"Nature's Claim
Instant    Common
Destroy target artifact or enchantment. Its controller gains 4 life."

I think it's quite nice, kills Leyline, Oath, plus can get rid of the nasty artifact hate. Doesn't kill Jailer , but I want to hear you opinions
18  Eternal Formats / Bazaar-Based Decks / Re: Bloodghasted Ichorid Primer- Looking to the future on: December 31, 2009, 10:34:46 am
Hello guys, I'm wondering how do you play or what tweaks would you make to this list in order to face Oath of Druids, in my Meta that's the mostly played deck and I still can't figure out the best SB strategy, or if my list is actually good against them.

Here's my list:

4 Bridge from Below
4 Cabal Therapy
4 Bloodghast
1 Oboro, Palace in the Clouds
4 Cephalid Coliseum
4 Serum Powder
3 Ichorid
3 Fatestitcher
4 Bazaar of Baghdad
3 Golgari Thug
3 Dread Return
4 Narcomoeba
4 Stinkweed Imp
3 Sharuum the Hegemon
1 Altar of Dementia
4 Golgari Grave-Troll
1 Black Lotus
1 Lion's Eye Diamond
1 Possessed Portal
3 Undiscovered Paradise
1 Seat of the Synod

Sideboard
4 Force of Will
4 Chain of Vapor
4 Leyline of the Void
3 Echoing Truth

Against oath I would like to add +15 SB cards, still not sure if this is the best SB/list against them,

What do you guys think ?
19  Eternal Formats / Bazaar-Based Decks / Re: Bloodghasted Ichorid Primer- Looking to the future on: December 24, 2009, 10:28:18 am
Guys I have been trying to get the ways this deck wins with Shaarum + Altar/Portal

From what I understand, 2x Shaarum + Altar == you deck your oponnent ?  Is that how you are playing it ?

I would love to hear more details about why Possessed portal and altar ( I have read all the thread + the older Dredge thread) etc... but it's still not clear to me. Sorry for the silly question.

Thanks

Sorry for the resurrection of the thread, but the thread was pretty interesting, and then it suddenly stopped... I was wondering if someone has made some new lists or has some interesting approach to this deck ?

Welcome to TMD,

first of all I would like to point you towards our rules, especially this one (Rule V.I) regarding thread necromancy. It would be better to PM the previous posters of this thread with questions or start a new thread regarding this deck.

A good little update would be really really nice . Smile

Thanks
