I started following "vintage" about a year ago.  I have read these forums for about that long.  I finally decided to make an account and try my hand at posting.  I play on Apprentice, but mostly with a bunch of friends that all wish we had power.  Thank god for Proxies!

I am currently working on upgrading my EBA to 4ccontrol.  I think so far though, EBA has been a good springboard for something not "obsolete."

I just wish I had more time for Magic.

Hello Tmd’ers
Name: Anthony
Age: 22
Location: Primarily Long Island N.Y./ I also have Residence in V.A.
Fav. Card/ art Time Vault

I’ve been playing Magic since 93’ at that time, spending all my allowance on it.  Around Revised I started focusing on strictly collecting,(buying huge collections at garage sales players stores ect..)  and would play casual off and on. Within the last few years I started playing more competitive decks like Keeper, Academy…ect.
I came across TMD a few years ago when I met Jeff (Samite Healer) and have been friends since, as well as an avid tmd reader.  I really don’t play in major tournaments such as Hadley, Waterbury, but now I’m less busy, and will be going to. In the meantime I frequent local type one events.. I’ve met a few of you at Hadley ( ive been there once or twice) and some more of you at Neutral ground, and a handful at gencon 03. Many you may remember me from that crazy Academy thing I usually play.  Today I am still a collector, but becoming more of a player. I put Magic’s true purpose fist, to have fun.

Name: Jeff Neilson

Occupation: High School Math Teacher

Age: 32 (as of 2004)

Claim to Fame: I killed somebody with a Mox, once, when my friends and I had accumuled Power during Revised.  We had 3 moxes and a Black Lotus between us.  My buddy Jason said, "With all this power, we could build a pretty killer mox deck." My mind exploded: "Killer Mox Deck...Killer Mox Deck.  For the next two weeks, I clandestenly worked on "Killer Mox Deck...Killer Mox Deck..." Two weeks later, I unveiled it at the local game store...Playing against a BR Burn Deck (hence, NO MERCY), I beat him down with Scryb Sprites, Flying Men, Mesa Pegusi, Giant Growths, Unstable Mutations...and then...AND THEN...since Casle was in play (the Tech at the time...) I ANIMATE ARTIFACT on my Mox Saphire, Giant Growth it, Berzerk it and ATTACT WITH MY MOX SAPHIRE FOR 6 points of trample damage!!!!!!!! I worked at the local comic book store, and saw that guy from time to time.  He told me that he never faced anything as crazy as being killed by a Black Lotus.

Other Claim to Fame: I am the only kid on my block to trade to get power cards, and still have them to this day...

(Sorry about the one big paragraph, it's artistically my way of conveying the point.)

I have been playing Magic since the last week that Unlimited was availiable.  Me and my roommates each bought a Starter Deck and a Booster Pack (except Mike J, who had enough for 2 Starter Decks and 1 booster pack) and we obsessively played for 6 weeks or so.  We didn't think there were ever going to be more Magic cards.  Mike J's friendship was almost lost after a trading war over CELESTIAL PRISM!!! We got over it...but the lesson is: Old School players have a history with this game.

Beyond that, I have a deck that is TEN YEARS OLD!!!  It is a Red/Green common card deck from Revised with three uncommon cards in it.  If you are oldschool enough, you probably have a decklist in your mind right now:

11 Mountains
11 Forests
4 Kird Ape (with Bananarama, LL Cool Ape, Queen Kong, Grape Ape written in Sharpie on each...)
4 Grizzly Bear (with Smokey the Bear, Fozzy Bear, Bearnobyl, Bear Skin Rug written in sharpie on each)
4 Giant Spiders (with Charlotte, Shpider, Lloth, BFS written in sharpie on each)
4 Craw Worm (with Crawzilla, Craw Envy, Craw Whelp and Ain't No Eldar Land Wyrm written in sharpie on each)
4 Giant Growth (with Steriods, Spinache, It's a Tumor and something else written in sharpie on each)
4 Lightning Bolt (with Zap!, Pow! Zammo! and something else written on each with sharpie)
4 Fireball (with Burn!, Fire!!!, Great Balls of Fire, and something else written on each with sharpie)
4 Disintegrate (with Die!, Whoom Der it aint, Kill! and something else written on each with sharpie)
4 Tranquility (who needs shatter if Icy, Vice and Orb are all that I have to deal with???)
1 Sol Ring (with A.C.M.E. written on it in sharpie)
1 Regrowth
1 Channel (with U.H.F. written in sharpie on it.
Certain cards have little modifications to it's artwork (like LL Cool Ape having a hat and chains drawn in, Craw Whelp having a HUGE horn drawn in, etc). Was built to see how a working deck from '94 would deal with each of the decks throughout the history of Magic.

Started playing back in Revised era when I was in what... 4th grade? I can still remember playing Magic every recess with about 10 other kids in this shaded alcove in the shipping area. Where it was sandy and rocky. Without sleeves. With duals.

So then I sold it all (dirt cheap) before my wonderful move to the USA when coincidentally, I decided to get back into the game, moreover into the almighty expensive type 1. Since then, I can be seen playing decks that allow me to abuse 5 and 10 proxy rules alot, and somehow I seem to win loads of boxes of useless type 2 boosters. FCG and Fish have been decks of choice and I'm now working on a spinoff FCG since Fish became popular (I play that too). Keep an eye out on the T8 decklists and ya might catch a glimpse. Here in Poughkeepsie there's a surprisingly strong meta, many people are fully powered, and more powering up including my teammates (YES!!!) so now I have flexibility to play "better?" decks. Many great people and lots of fun times at our local hangout, Champion's (which will soon start holding power tournies) and the level of competition is awesome. I want to build my own deck one day.

I spend lots of time on TMD and without its well of endless knowledge I'd probably be playing something as bad as D&D so thank you Zherbus, mods, and all who contribute to the forums positively.

Peace

Whew, about time I got around to posting in this thread.

Name: Dan Carp
Age: 16
Location: TMD Secret S&M Dungeon, alternatively Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Occupation: Disciple of the powers that be.

Magical stuff:
I've been playing off and on since Urza's Destiny, and have been playing competitively for a year or so. I play in the monthly tournaments at Games Universe, which draw around 25-35 fully powered players each month, with this coming tournament being the 5th, and the first one that I'm going to miss. So far I've T8ed half of them and won a Timetwister in the very first one with my personal MaskNought build. My collection is relatively small, and the only power I have currently is my Timetwister. I'm an active member of Team Drunken Dreadnought, whose members are basically me, my brother (who furnishes a full collection complete with Power and everything for team) and the handful of people we test with. We specialize in the underdog decks, with MaskNought, Salvagers, and the up-and-coming-and-ignored PeekaZoo decks being our favorites. For the most competitive tournaments, I play powered Draw-7 while my brother uses Keeeeper.

In my spare time I like to challenge people to Apprentice duels and get in trouble with the moderators. In addition to my turbulent times here, I've been tempbanned twice from Misetings and am banned from MOTL for posting violations. Which is ironic, because my brother is a MOTL Moderator. I also enjoy performing a menial, Phil-like purpose, linking new members to useful tips on posting and to decklists and such by PM or post.

Hello, I'll chime in too..

Name: Bryan Turner
Age: 28
Location: Raleigh, North Carolina
Occupation: Software Engineer

I've been playing since The Dark, with various entries into Type II during Tempest and Odyssey, but nothing beats Type 1!  At this point, I have every card in the format and only need to spend around $50 on each new set.

I started playing competitively in '02, and average about 3 major tourneys a year (plus some local stuff).  I only play 4cControl, unless the meta is really poor.  The games are always different, challenging, and rewarding.  It's been fun to watch the deck evolve over the years as new metas come and go.

What's up fellow magicians? My name is Mike Hervol and I'm from Washington, Pa.(near Pittsburgh) I'm 20 yrs. old as of now and am working/going to school. I've been playing magic since Tempest and have been competitively playing since Invasion. I play all formats of Magic and get around to the PTQ's and prereleases locally. I love playing Type I because it is the pinnacle of Magic. You are dead if you make a wrong play. I joined TMD because it is THE TYPE I AUTHORITY. I hope to spread the word about the local scene and get involved in some good discussions. Happy posting. Peace.

I enjoy the game and the people I've met since I started playing again. I had the pleasure of working with Frimble (who I met at my first T1 tounament somewhere in Kentuckey) to co-create the Belcher deck. A deck that suprises me even afetr 1000 games. Ethan here. Work for Andystok. Ran the comp at the infamous andystok double lotus double round 2 event. PM if you want the explanation on it.

I play Type 1 almost exclusively, some casual, and the all foil format.... Half way done with my all foil Elves.
Other then that there isnt much.
I have played tog/variant, elves (for fun), FCG/variant, the mono crushing chamber, tested smennen blue and some bad land deck.

Funny shit....
At a magic tournament
I said i ran the comp at the andystok event and some kid was like
"Half the Type 1 community hates you!"
My response is the same usually "the other half can go fuck themselves"
Stops the conversation always

Quotes from aim
<twafiroller> oh man did you see the changes to the 1.5 format
<twafiroller> huh
<twafiroller> man those 4 people are going to be pissed

I just dont care what people think about me. about the company is different entirely.

Best comment to catch an opponent off guard is: no cheating. usually do this when they are shuffling.

I have been playing MTG for about 10 years (Started toward the end of revised), and I took a 2 year break in there, where I did all sorts of other shit than this stuff.  Anyway, I still consider myself a budget player (won the power, but it has been a while since I have.

I hope to start picking up more tournies as they pop up here in the SW, so I will take care of it.  Anyone out here, in the SW, feel free to drop me a line.  anyway, I also travel to Cincy a fair amount, and will probably be there around christmas for a week, probably fix it so I am there when there is a tourny in Columbus, so I can go.

Anyway, Currently, I am driving pizzas for a place called the Pizza Guy (gotta be good pizza, eh?), as well as goignn to school (9 credits until 2 BS degrees), and I am doing Advertising for the MGM Grand Casino Resort in LAs Vegas, NV.  Hey, thats fun.  Trips to Vegas.

I also DJ, spin Techno, as well as trance/progressive/hip hop and I blend it all together.  I am a director (I did a live news cast, and a Modern Day adaptaion of the Tell-Tale heart) and I am working on a new script (can't say to much, sorry) that is killer.

Anyway, I enjoy just about everything, and always have fun.

Wow, I should totally post here. I've been playing Vinage/Type I since I got bored with Standard/Type II and decided I wanted to play a game with more than three viable decks. I played Magic when I was just a wee lad of seven (back then Roc of Kher Ridges was insane, I mean, same cost as Hill Giant but it flies?!) In any case, I'm seventeen now and I regularly hit up the Columbus Infinite proxy tournaments that Smmenen sets up (under his anal, vindictive, pompous exterior he really is an alright person).

Real Name: Willie Milton
Columbus, OH (the real home of Wendy's, Dublin's not a real city)
Job: Lazy-ass mothafucka/student
Age: 17 (also above)
Fav decks: I have decided to play what wins. In my type 2 days I'd try to build rogue decks that never worked and I'd just not go to the tourneys because I didn't want to be in the one or two categories of players. Since there are so many viable decks in vintage, I can totally justify using whatever.

I'm Andrew, i've been playing magic since Ice Age, my first tournament was the Masques Prerelease, i'm 17 and poor yet have LongDeath done except for power. right now i'm playing alot with longdeath and fish but since i live in texas there isnt too much of a good field out here and there are no proxy tournaments i've been able to find so instead i draft alot and play type 2.

I read various posts and found them to be rather enjoyable.  at this point, I wish some of our locals would come here more often.  There are a few pro players here (yes, you know who you are and yes, I do consider you friends although what I create and do in the magic community is completely independent as I belong to no team), most of our small gang here seem to hear about decks through the grapevine or through actually playing against them.  Well.... might as well introduce myself

My name known locally: Shields (Actually, my first name is John and I prefer to be called that)

Age: 22
Height: 6' 1''
Weight: 202 LBS
Max Bench Press lift: 125 LBS
Max Leg Press Lift: 400 LBS
Jung, Meyers, Briggs Personality Type: ENTJ - check this thing out yourself. its really cool and can be found at www.personalitypage.com !
Potential Girlfriend: Yes, this small but cute flamboyant girl seems unsure of continuing to date her current boyfriend who is an Army Ranger since he is getting ready be sent to one of the most dangerous areas in Iraq.  Well... thank goodness for an idiotic president (reference www.bushorchimp.com), the beginnings of World War III in my opinion, being physically (although not mentally with a Stanford Binet IQ average score of 175) disabled (note that I am favor of socialized healthcare and am pissed and am feeling panicked about having an average medical expense of $50,000 US$ before insurance per year) and the power of simply trying to be her friend as opposed to being her pimpdaddy.
Spending Philosophy: Save every single dime you can and be reasonable with your investments.  Plan for the future and if something does not look like a sound investment long-term investment, either look for another option or work with the hand you are dealt
Magic Playing Philosophy:  This is really something I consider a night out with friends.  Is it really worth all the bragging to claim victory on a prize that you could buy at the most a small pizza with or to realize that your travel expenses to the big things are actually more expensive than the prize you won?

Area where I typically hang out - a local store in the Blacksburg, VA area
Have I ever been to a major magic event - no, and I really do not think they are worth the gas, food, time and hotel money since most people are not likely to win enough to cover the basic travel expenses.

Favorite Format: Type 1, with proxies for cards most do not have like Power 9

Favorite Card: A tie between Moat and Ensnaring Bridge

Least Favorite Card: Anything that can win the game within a single or second turn, despite my own use of the same darn cards; ie I am the pot calling the kettle black

Favorite Place to Find Deals on Magic Cards: Magictraders, which has brought me the majority of the top demand cards I own without charging me my left nut for cards I would like by making all trades free, with the exception of requiring all trades to be done between people via email correspondance and use of the postal service. www.magictraders.com

Least Favorite Place to findmagic deals: Unfortunately, I really dislike Star City Games as their prices are unrealistic for demanded cards, the trade values they offer you for your cards are highway robbery, and the people that work there have been incredibly rude to me each time that I have gone there over the past years.  Yes, may get me banned for dissing one of manadrain's main sponsors, but I say Star City can take their deals and stick them where the sun don't shine aka they can go bankrupt for all I care.  The thieving and greedy, dishonest b##tards.  I will never go there again nor do I reccomend this store to all that I meet when trading cards for the store's often unethical practices and trades.  Forgive me, site administrators, but this is my opinion on that store

Job: Student studying both Human Services and Spanish.

Current GPA: Approximately 3.5 on a 4 point scale

Jobs that I am considering after school: Psychology, Law, Social Work, Interpreter for the government, Recreational Therapy, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Crisis negotiator, possibly an FBI worker, or Rehabilitative Aid for local individuals

Job that some think that I am, but I am actually not: Pimp (for magic cards at this point) and a local thug

This kinda bugs me, ok ok ok.... actually I am really really pissed about the gossip spreader who put libel on me for my desires to find a potential source of profit in almost everything I have done, being tight with money and if anything taking advantage my potentially prosperous business skills.
At the same time I get the groovy feeling of looking back at the 1970's movies of the guy with the velvet trenchcoat, big fuzzy hat with a feather in it, a little black book for deals, pockets full of cash and a big golden cane with a huge jewel on top for smacking the misbehaving people.  I think it is because I use a different price guide than scrye and tend to profit from most deals I do via regular communication, negotiation and use of the internet for Magictraders and its far lower, true prices that people actually paid for their cards.

I am also Jshields on Magictraders if you wanna trade

Favorite Classes: Foreign Language classes - I think these are fun

Least Favorite Classes: Math - no real applied or practical use for these made them really boring despite my earning good grades in classes

Favorite Non Magic activities: Exercise, swimming, reading, humor and comedy, spending quality time with my family (yes, I am a mama's boy and if you ever make fun of my mama....... oh you know what will happen....), bowling, going to movies, debate, counseling those in need, being hugged, cooking, learning new stuff, reading encyclopedias and nonfiction, and I loves da ladies!!!!  Come on, who is yo pimp daddy???!!??

Date that I first bought magic singles: Spring 1996 - I bought a playset of Lightning Bolts and a playset of Fireballs for $1 total

Date I first bought a pack of magic cards: Summer 1996 - I bought 3 boosters of Mirage and 3 of 4th Edition

Date I started playing Magic: 1999/2000 when Masques came out and I got royally whupped by everyone and their mamma regularly

Date I started to actually gain a chance to play competitively: Fall 2001 When Apocalypse became legal over the summer, I was busy with summer school, but fell quickly in love with my Deedmonger B/G aggro discard deck

Expensive cards that I own: 1 Playset of all the revised blue dual lands, 4 Taiga, 3 Bayou, 4 Italian Mana Drains, 1 Mana Crypt, a playset of most of the extended top chase rares (ie almost all fetches, 4 intuitions (3 foreign), 4 wrath of gods (2 foreign), birds of paradise (currently being rebuilt since I traded 3 away 2 weeks ago for my final mana drain), chrome moxes vampiric tutors, aluren), as well as most of the main components to make any Type 1 competitive control netdeck excluding power, although I technically should own an Ancestral recall, but the person I bought it from online ripped me on it

Favorite Decks: Oath of Druids from various years, Landstill, Keeper, Parfait, PT Funk (Yes, I actually did come up with an almost identical idea at the same time that Matt the Great did without even knowing that he was already working on a design for it), the old extended Junk Phoenix deck aka SSS control (Too bad I had not thought of it earlier), Ophidian decks, Taiga.dec, and decks that work that people make by their own imagination

Least Favorite Decks: Stasis, any deck that wins in 1 turn (this makes the rest of the round really boring!), Worldgorger Dragon, Arcbound Ravager based decks, and Ankh Sligh

First Stupid offer I ever took advantage of and felt ripped at the time, only to realize that I made a fortune later: Fall 2001 - a local player was quitting and sold me 2 Morphling, 4 Birds of Paradise, 4 Wrath of God, 2 Force of Will, 1 Underground Sea, 1 Bayou, 1 Vampiric Tutor, an entire U/W Pro Tour Counter Rebel deck that used the actual cards and not the gold bordered versions, and about 50 uncommons for $85 total

Second Stupid offer that was made to me that I profited from: Later on in fall 2001 - a guy that quit during revised sold me 4 Taiga, 4 Swords to Plowshares, 2 Serra Angel, 2 Mana Leak, and 2 Gaea's Blessing for $20 total

Third Ridiculously low offer that I somehow got from a store in winter 2001: 4 Mishra's Factory, 6 Hypnotic Specter, 3 Demonic Tutor, 10 various pain lands, 6 Swords to Plowshares, 4 Land Tax (English Legends), 2 Balance and 1 Cursed Scroll for $.50 a piece (yes, fifty cents each)

Fourth offer that gave me a huge profit of cards greater than any I ever had: 500 Rares (Most of which were cards like 2 playsets of Force of Will, 6 wrath of God, a playset of each of the ice ages pain lands, and many other chase rares, and enough to enable me to play competitive type 1 after a long series of trades on magictraders, the old mana drain trading post, and brainburst trading post) for $27 (I still wonder what this person was thinking when they did this... they must have been desperate)  Spring 2002

For more, I will add some of my history later.  I have traveled throughout the world for starters, am extremely extroverted and can be rather imposing (ENTJ personality), am an Aries, and often am used in helping people to settle disputes.

Also, regarding the idea that I have been cheating at cards.... I will be posting a rather long history of what has been making people confused about some of my appearance and the short answer is NO I HAVE NOT BEEN CHEATING. I do not stack my deck, at points pay little attention to the game, try to stick to what I know about the DCI floor rules, and have to compromise on shuffling my deck due to having difficulty with the use of both my eyes and hands from Cerebral Palsy.

Occupation: Student at Western Michigan University. Imaging (printing) management. It is always fun to play with what my industry manufactures!
Decks presently pimping: Foiled, fully powered goblin sligh; Some form of x/g land destruction ( I will make it work!! muhahaha); 5/3 split ( thorme, the deck is quite sweet); and FCG or fish, depends what kinda mood I am in.
Power owned: U/G/R Mox, AR, Black lotus, LOA
I just got started just as Onslaught came out. I had played about ten years prior to that, but that only lasted about three months. Kalamzoo has a great Type 1 foundation and quickly sucked me into and had me asking, "whats type 2?'.
I play soccer, basketball, football, run, mountain bike and play paintball on the side. My biggest regret is playing paintball because the equipment depreciates, unlike power right now. I could have used that money for so many more cards....... Rolling Eyes

I am one of the many that played magic till homelands came out, took a look at all of the cards and said "see-ya".  "I mean come on, its not like anyone is crazy enough to actually spend $250 on a black lotus!"

If we only knew.

Got back in to magic casually around Mirrodan, started playing tournaments a few months after that.

Power owned: By your powers combined I am captain plane.....Uh, none right now.  I have my sights set on a set of drains at the moment, a few more months saving up and they WILL be MINE!

Current Decks:

R/G Hate.dec
Forbidden Oath
Fish
P/T Funk
Lavaggro (its bad, but still working on it)
D4RG0N (Barely worth playing with only 5 proxies and no power)
FCG, though I am quite bored with it.
UWR Landstill (again, powerless its not that great)
GAT (See above, though to a lessar degree)

If there is anyone in the Houston area looking for a playgroup or a steady tournament, message me.  I can hook you up with a small, but bloody, steady game.

Hey peeps, you all ok? A little about my 'magic' history:

I started playing about my 14,15th or so with 5th Edition, but due to lack of other people playing the game I quit about almost 1,5 years later when Stronghold/Exodus got out, and so missed out on Saga Block to my regret later on. 3, 4 years ago I found a group of misfits like me that were just starting Magic with Apocalypse and I joined in.

I hardly play T2, as the tight format leaves little room for creativity which I desire when building decks. I made the definite switch when I got most of the must-have T1 cards as Drains and Power, and never looked back.

Due to the fact that I started with 5th Edition, I have a huge affinity for the artwork of AEther Storm and have been collecting the crapuncommon like rabbits breed. If anyone has any.. LMK  Wink

Currently some serious decks and some fun decks. My serious decks are a tendrils deck and a mono blue belcher deck. Unfortunately I do not own power.

I used to play T1 online back before FoF was restricted and BBS was king. I went to Beyond Dominia a lot and sometimes even played some of the people in the channel.

T1 is my favorite format and when I trade, I usually trade with T1 in mind.

My favourite deck is 'Tog, and any forms thereof. I've only recently begun to get into Type 1, and since that time (a few months ago-ish) have begun to accumulate as many T1 staples as possible, but still lack duals and half a playset of forces, plus all things expensive. I have, however, managed to get everything from my 'Tog deck minus the really expensive things and duals though. And this makes me happy.

I'm in high school for my last year this year. Finally.

Good day.
