I am proud to announce N.Y.S.E. V, a Stax Exchange Production paid for by viewers like you; When: Saturday, January 23rd, 2010 Registration will begin at 11:00 AM First round will begin promptly at 12:00 PM What:$30, 15 proxy non-sanctioned Vintage tournament. Deck registration sheets will be in use. 1st place prize of an Unlimited Black Lotus is guaranteed. All other prizes are guaranteed at 50 entrants. The prize structure will be as follows: 1st: Unlimited Black Lotus 2nd: Unlimited Mox Pearl 3rd/4th: Revised Underground Sea 5th/8th: Force of Will 9th: 2nd best 9th place prize ever (who can hope to compete with wolf shirts?) There will be a considerable upgrade in prize support if we hit 64 players. As things stand, there will be a scaling up of the prizes with each 5 people past 50. At 55 second place will be upgraded to a Mox Ruby. At 60 3rd and 4th will be upgraded to English Mana Drains (or Library of Alexandria's if I can get them at a decent price.) At 64 players the prize support will be: 1st: Unlimited Black Lotus 2nd: Unlimited Mox Ruby 3rd/4th: English Mana Drain (or the aforementioned LoA's if I can get them) 5th-8th: Underground Sea Finally, at 70, the second place prize will be an Unlimited Mox Sapphire. I am altering the no proxy prize. In lieu of an English Mana Crypt, a wolf shirt will be given out to the highest finishing player without proxies in his deck. An additional wolf shirt will be given out to a player chosen at random who didn't make the top 8 of the tournament. A sportsmanship prize of a Misty Rainforest will be awarded to a player of my choice. Side Events/Team Competition/Player of the Year Race:Side Events:There will be a side event for a Library of Alexandria that will start taking sign-ups after the second round of the main flight. As soon as we have 16 players the event will be held. If there's enough demand for it, there will be an additional side event held after the final round of the main flight as soon as we have the 16th sign-up. Entry for the side event is $10 if you played in the main flight. It will be four rounds of single elimination. Non sanctioned Zendikar drafts will be available throughout the day, beginning after the second round of the event. Team Competition:I've seen how many of the team competitions have been run, and while I appreciate the thought of running a similar event, it's not quite what I wanted to try. Entry for the team competition is: $15 per team. 100% of the entry fees will go back as a cash prize to the winning team. A team of 3 players, with defined 1, 2 and 3 seatings will sign up. Each team will compete against opposing 1, 2 and 3 seeds from the other teams that signed up for the event. So, for example, if D3G signed up with Folinus, Elias and Nowakowski as their 1, 2 and 3 seeds, and Meandeck signed up with Mastriano, Ashok and Chang, the matches would be: Folinus vs. Mastriano Elias vs. Ashok Nowakowski vs. Chang Each team to win the best of 3 advances. I think that this could be a very successful event. We have representatives of the following teams close by: Meandeck D3G N.Y.S.E. RND T.R.A. I'm sure that I'm forgetting a few as well. I would only look to run the team competition (in this format) at the large (re: Lotus) events that I run over the course of the year. Player of the Year Race:Starting on 1/23 there will be a Player of the Year race. Points will be accumulated based on match wins (3 points) and draws (1 point.) The event will run from 1/10-12/31/10. The winner of the race wins free admission to all N.Y.S.E. tournaments for 2011. Updates will be posted in the tournament reports for the tournaments. An additional 5 points will be given to all players who top 8, and a total of 10 points will be given to the winner. May the best player win! Future ByesNick Coss and I have decided to offer byes to the Philly Open and future N.Y.S.E. Lotus tournaments to the winners of Blue Bell and N.Y.S.E. events. If you win an N.Y.S.E. event (like this Lotus tournament) you'll earn a round one bye at the Philly Open V. Max Brown won the first Blue Bell event of the year, and he earned himself a bye at N.Y.S.E. V. Congratulations Max! More details on this will follow. Where:Brothers Grim Games & Collectibles 1244 Middle Country Road Selden, N.Y. 11784 (631) 698-2805 brothersgrimgames@gmail.comStore website: http://brgrim.com/index.htmN.Y.S.E. tournament site: http://www.facebook.com/nick.detwiler?ref=name#/group.php?v=info&ref=mf&gid=226523866027Our head judge for the event will be Long Island's own Brian Paskoff, a level 2 judge. So mark off your calendar and come out to the Island to spend a day playing Vintage with your friends. This event should be a blast. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

My request off has been granted, so I shall be joining you New Yawkers for a day of Vintage fun out on the Island. A hypothetical absolutely certain Eagles appearance in the NFC title game would be on the 24th so all is well regarding that.
I can comfortably fit three other players in my car, so if anybody in or around Philly needs a ride, let me know.

That's awesome, I'm glad to hear it. While in Blue Bell yesterday I heard from quite a few of the guys that they were going to be making the trip. I'm really looking forward to the event, if only because I think we're going to have a great showing with some big names coming out. We've got a little less than three weeks until the event. I hope you guys are looking forward to it as much as I am...

All information has been updated, and most importantly, there are now wolf shirts being given out.
I want to hear feedback on the team competition concept. Hopefully this is a way to spur regional rivalries a bit. I'd also like to hear from any teams that I may have forgotten.
I've outlined the basics for the Player of the Year race. If anyone knows a program that could be used to facilitate this, it would be appreciated. Additionally, if anyone has any ideas regarding the point structure, please speak your mind now or forever hold your peace. Once this starts on 1/23 it WILL NOT be adjusted.
So. Thoughts?

In my expirience in the Basque Vintage Lige we see that giving too much point to the top 8 disturbs the rerala regularity of some players, because you can make top9 at 3 tournaments, and some one tyhat justa make top 8 at 2 and goes very bad in one can have the same or more points than the top 9 guy. I porpose you to don,t give so much point for going in the top8, only 1 point for being in, and extra point for passing to semi-finals, one more for going to the final, and maybe 2 more for winning, so it would be like this: 1st: +5 2nd: +3 3-4th: +2 5-8th: +1
Only one opinion, really, what we have was a real lige, and at the end of the an invitational torunamente so only the first 22 (and the all that have the same points as him, and all torunament champions too) of the regular ligue can go. This last tournamnet was free, we had 15 euros tournament fee, and from this 2 euros of each player gous for the final torunament prize and we have some prize to for the first 3 or 4 players in the regular leagu (it depends on assistance and in the budget that we had for the both prizes support).

Considering the regularity I get ninth place, I like this ^.^ I also like the structure both Nick's are supporting now though. So I'm happy with either.

I have no problems running it as 5, 3, 2, 1.
Seriously, no one else has any thoughts on the matter? As I said, once this is set, it will remain this way for the full year. This means that if you've got problems with it, mention them now. This will be the only time this is hashed out for the 2010 season.

That's upsetting that I don't get a bye for winning the last one of the year. Oh well, just gonna have to win it the hard way.

Sorry buddy, but with 2010 comes a bunch of new things. You'll win an event sometime this year, you'll get your bye. I have been unable to locate a Timetwister. My source for power is out. This may be a good thing for most people - as the 2nd place prize has been adjusted. An Unlimited Mox Pearl is going to be given out instead - a card that sees much more play... If you have extra power, or any extra Vintage staples, please contact me. I need cards to run these events, and while I can keep this going for a while, there will come a time in the future when I have exhausted my traditional sources for power for these events.

With 70 entrants the 2nd place prize will be an Unlimited Mox Sapphire.
I feel really good about this. With 64 showing up to Nicks' first Blue Bell, and all the guys that I've heard from making the trip, I have to believe that we're going to be in that neighborhood.
Let's make it happen!
