I don't know if one of the mod's is willing to sticky this, but I would appreciate it, as I figured flooding the boards with weekly tournament announcements was a little absurd.

Agreed and Done. Marske

In the coming weeks and months I am going to be running weekly Vintage tournaments.  I am looking to create a more vibrant community for Vintage in New York.  I have decided to essentially run three variations on tournaments.

The first event will be the smallest; a weekly Vintage tournament with scaling prize support for blue dual lands, or other $50-60 dollar range cards awarded to the winner.  Entry on these events is going to be $10, with most of the usual standards - 15 proxies, non-sanctioned, rel, etc.  These events will be run either on a Friday or Saturday, and they will be run exclusively at Marks Comics and Collectibles in Valley Stream.  When I first started running Vintage tournaments (more than seven years ago now) I ran my tournaments at Marks.  At some level, I feel like I'm coming home.

The second variation is a mid-level tournament.  These events will be run for prize support in the $150-200 range (so, think Mishra's Workshops, Bazaar of Baghdads, etc.).  The rough outline on these events is a $15 entry, 15 proxy, non-sanctioned Vintage tournament run at competitive rel.  These tournaments will be run at The Comicbook Depot in Wantagh.  These events will be run on Sundays, with an early start and a finish between 7-8 pm.

The third variation, and largest tournaments, are the tournaments that I'm largely known for now - the major N.Y.S.E. events.  I have sought to run these events for better power - Jet's, Sapphires, Recall's, Time Walk's, Lotii.  I fully intend on keeping it this way.  The N.Y.S.E. events will still be run on a monthly, or bi-monthly basis (depending on PTQ's, Nick Coss events, and other major tournaments).  The basic outlay will remain the same - $25-30 entry (depending on whether or not it's a Lotus tournament - if it's for a Lotus, it's going to be $30, if it's not for a Lotus, it will be $25), 15 proxy, non-sanctioned Vintage tournament.  There will be a dealer on site for all the major N.Y.S.E. events, which will not be true for the smaller events run weekly or bi-weekly.

This is all in an effort to grow the local community.  I have, as I have said many times, gotten tremendous support from the out-of-stater's.  It's up to me, and my fellow New York Vintage players, to spread the format, and to get new players involved.  If we're going to grow, and have the kind of turnouts that would permit me to run some awesome prize support, we're going to need more local players.  We're drawing all that we can from out of the area, it's incumbent upon us to draw more of the local crew.

Major events are a good thing, but they are potentially cost prohibitive for younger players, and it is also not the best place to test ideas, or try something new and unknown. Having consistent smaller tournaments, where you can take a step or two off the more travelled trail, is a good thing - as it will allow players to test, play, and win cards that they can either use, or trade towards their Vintage decks.

I’m running two Vintage tournaments this weekend, and details have been set on the tournament to be run the weekend of the Rise of the Eldrazi pre-release.  Here’s everything that has been announced so far:

Prize structure will be as follows:

Where:

2847 Jerusalem Avenue
Wantagh, NY 11793-2016
(516) 221-9337

Looks awesome!

I noticed you're using competitive REL for the smallest of events.  I'd suggest regular REL for that one, since it's not for a large prize, will probably more of a casual atmosphere.

While I won't be able to make any of the Friday events, I'm sure as hell going to try to make the Saturday and Sunday events. The first NYSE lite event was fun as hell, and I'd love to see a strong local Vintage scene here.

I'm probably out on the 2nd. The 10th and 11th will be determined by how well my car shopping goes.

Cut and paste is a wonderful thing, but not when it leads to errors.

Noted and agreed.  Changed, which is to say, it's now in following with my original intentions.

I'm probably out on the 2nd. The 10th and 11th will be determined by how well my car shopping goes.

I hope it goes well, and that whatever you get, it's good on gas mileage.  The beauty of consistent weekly events is that they're always there for you.  Hopefully when you do make it to a few of them, you find them well attended and well run.

I know I'm up at school for most of the time these events are going on but I look to be as much of a help as possible to you and all you do for the vintage community on Long Island and the surrounding area. I think the recharge and revitalization of dedicated group of vintage players is the best thing to happen to the local vintage scene since James Hangley.

I had a great time at the Depot this past weekend (mostly thanks to that velcro ball game) and met some people that will easily make their way into the starting rotation. I have some blue duels I can get rid of cheap to keep this going. Thanks for all you do, I'm behind you 100%.

That velcro ball game was amazing...that should be a side event at the next tourney. I have a drinking one I can get too, haha.

So, the first of the small level weekly events is going on tonight.  And yet this is going to be the third weekend in a row that there has been a Vintage tournament held on the Island.  We have had a few new faces at the recent events, and I hope to see them all there tonight.

1st is going to be a Revised Volcanic Island.  As was mentioned in the earlier post, entry for tonight's event is $10.  It looks like we're going to have a nice little crowd from what I've heard from individual players.

And, again, prize scales.  So if we have 15-20 guys show up, prize support will be increased to reflect this.

And James Hangley's prescience is duly noted.

We had 8 players last night for Friday Night Vintage.  We were missing a few guys due to FNM, work, and other commitments (what with the holiday weekend, etc.), but we had a few new players.

James Hangley's Dredge beat out Greg Fenton's Iona Oath in the finals, giving Dredge another, albeit small and local, win.  Mr. Hangley won a Volcanic Island, Mr. Fenton won a Rishadan Port.

The next event is coming up a week from today - on Saturday, April 10th at Mark's Comics.  $10 entry for a blue dual.  As always, prize scales, and with what I expect the turnout to be, I believe there will be an increase in support.

But if you want a real laugh, check this out: as discovered by Mike Egan yesterday at Blue Bell, I never took the proxied Petrified Fields and Angel of Despair out after I picked them up.  So, you won a Vintage tournament running my 63 card Turtle Dredge list.  Oops.

This weekend has two events coming up, as noted above.  The details have been set on the Saturday tournament at Mark's Comics and here they are:

What:

$10, 15 proxy non-sanctioned Vintage tournament, run at REL

First place prize is a Revised Volcanic Island

Second place, and all additional prizes, will be added/scaled according to attendance

5:30 pm registration, 6pm start.

I know that a lot of the regulars weren't able to make it on Friday due to myriad things going on over the weekend.  I hope to see a full crowd on Saturday though...

The details on the Workshop tournament, to be run on Sunday at Depot, remain the same.

Just finished up the details with Mark of Mark's Comics fame for the event to be run on the weekend of the Eldrazi release.  Here’s everything:

What:

$10, 15 proxy, non-sanctioned Vintage tournament for a blue dual

Where:

Marks Comics & Collectibles
291 North Central Avenue
Valley Stream, NY 11580-2525
(516) 872-5919

When:

Saturday, April 17th
6:30 pm registration, 7 pm start

I am going to continue to adjust the original post with all the new information.  If you're looking for announcements, check the first post and I'll have all the information that you need.

So, come and play at Marks Comics during the day, and then play Vintage that night!  Should be some great fun…

We had 12 at Marks Comics tonight, with every pillar outside of Drains being represented.  MUD took the event down, with TPS finishing second.

Hope to see everybody at the Workshop tourney tomorrow!

Everyone who decided not to show up for whatever insignificant reasons missed out on a small, yet fun event today. We didn't get enough people for a workshop, so the prize was lowered to some blue dual (and the entrance fee was lowered also). Elves and Noble Fish split in the finals.

It was small, and I would have liked more, but we had a great time.  The top 4 was TPS, MUD, Elves and Noble Fish.  Elves took down TPS (TPS mulled to oblivion and Elves went off turn 2 both games) while MUD and Noble Fish went to 3, with Fish eking out a win.

I had a great time, the guys that I spoke with all seemed to have a great time, and I'm looking forward to seeing everybody next week at Marks comics for the Rise of Eldrazi release and the subsequent tournament to be held at 7pm (prompt!) on Saturday.

For everyone who was hesitent to come to the nyse lite events due to store layout and chairs, I can tell you that this is no longer an issue. I was at the depot last friday, and the store is now finished. There are tables and chairs for 25+ so come to the next one as I am sure it will be a blast.

The Shop tourney is going to be on a Sunday.  May 15th is NY Regionals, so many of the prospective players will be in Manhattan, playing in that.  It is becoming more and more difficult to get good Saturday dates, though I will continue to run the power tournaments once a month, or once every two months, on whatever dates are available.
