Now that the spoiler for Rise of the Eldrazi is complete I started to make my list of what I was going to preorder for eternal and EDH decks. Looks like it is going to be a cheap order this set. Anyone see anything that might have a glimmer of hope? Most of these picks are "just in case" buys.
1x Emrakul, the Aeons Torn 4x See Beyond 4x Inquisition of Kozilek 4x Shrivel 4x Goblin Tunneler 4x Raid Bombardment 4x Ancient Stirrings 1x Training Grounds (EDH) 4x Evolving Wilds (EDH)

See Beyond might be useful given the current card pool.
Emrakul could also be used, but I wonder if 2 might make sense.

Maybe for a pre-attack Piledriver in a goblin build?

I'm buying a decent amount of packs (4 boxes), and I've only preordered extra stuff for Standard (Vengevine is definitely sick).

Heres my opinion of the new cards.
See Beyond and Emrakul are the big guns for vintage. Pick up a dragon's breath to go with them.
Ancient Stirring is also worth picking up a playset since its a common. It most likely will do nothing for eternal formats but you never know if it will be the next Ponder for Workshop decks.
Inquisition of Kozilek will likely do nothing since Thoughtseize hits 4cc cards and up for a useless 2 life. Most people play Duress over TS anyway, so this cards ability to hit creatures with cmc 3 or less seems pretty useless.
Shrivel is just Nausea with a new name...I guess grab one or a few since they'll practically be free.
Oust will probably suck, but might as well pick up 1 or 2 in case they turn out to be good.

Or they will be that on cardshark form Gamer's Inn. After the first two weeks of the release prices drop signifcantly.

I'm probably not going to preorder anything. The main reason to preorder, as far as I can tell, is if I think that a card is going to be absolutely nuts and is undervalued right now or if I need some ASAP.
Usually, cards for Vintage don't hold high value because they're junk in other formats, and doing the math to figure out which cards will be more valuable doesn't seem worth the effort unless I was a dealer or if I was just doing the rounds to check for the next Tarmogoyf.
Does anyone know if there is an infinite combo with Training Grounds?

I don't see anything that I'll need right away for Vintage play. I'm planning to go to the Prereleases this weekend for the Emrakuls and whatever else I rip. Then I'll look for the following (all for EDH):
2x Emrakul (prerelease cards) 2x Kozilek 2x Ulmalog 1x Artisan of Kozilek 2x Momentus Fall 2x Realms Uncharted 1-2x Vengevine (which seems really really good) 1x Dreamstone Hedron 1-2x Lighthouse Chronologist
I have four EDH decks, and plan only to put the 'titans' into Radha (which will be hardcasting/Lurking Predators-ing them into play), and Numot (which runs Jhoira). The 2nd copies of the green cards are for Teneb, and the Lighthouse Chronologist will be for Wydwen, if I can get one cheap.
I think my plan for the prerelease events is to hope I have fliers, so I can ignore the 'defender' theme and the spawn. There doesn't seem like a ton of removal to worry about if you're not playing X/1s.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.
Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops. I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

I agree with this. The vast majority of cards will only go down in price after all this preordering stuff. Unless you see some serious (I mean really serious) tech that everybody else is missing, probably best just to let the set come out and order a few weeks later.

Does anyone know if there is an infinite combo with Training Grounds?
If you have two Training Grounds on the table, the cost of activating Spawnsire of Ulamog goes down to , and it makes 2 Eldrazi Spawns each of which can be sacrificed for ... With one Training Ground, Filigree Sage costs only to untap any artifact. Goes pretty well with Khalni Gem, or so I heard...

Oh and these aren't good combos, but Training Grounds + Izzet Guildmage + Rite of Flame or Manamorphose are infinite mana.

In standard Training Grounds goes great with the level uppers. I could see a mono-blue t2 deck using the Venerated Teachers, lots of Blue lvl up guys (the draw cards one, the unblockable one, the copy an instant one MAYBE, and the 4/4 flying merfolk) along with Champion's Drake, and then lots of bounce (like Call to Heel, bounce a critter draw a card, and Aether Tradewinds, for the Venerated Teacher), and then just w/e counter spells are in the format. Once jund rotates out, this I think will be the competitive deck....I could of course be entirely wrong, but from wat I seen its the best route.
Or splash green for Awakening Zone + Shared Discovery + Broodwarden for lots of draw and lots of critters, and lots of mana, on top of the green levelers u may want to add. This also gives u access to elves, harrow, and birds for mana accel.

I used my RoE budget to order Polluted Deltas instead, and will be picking up commons by drafting or some similar method. I see little exciting at rare.

Heartstone/Doubling Season could work as Training Ground 5-12 for Spawnsire, since you need two reducers to go off anyway. If you're running Everflowing Chalice, Doubling Season gets you extra mileage on later Chalices (the first is probably needed to ramp into Season). If that's on top of Sages/Gems, hardcasting Spawnsire should be doable, and might even let you use it's second ability w/out going infinite. Maybe Comet Storm as a sweeper/alternate kill. Sounds like a fun kitchen table deck.

I suppose it's mostly the thought that this format is just one big Mistake; and not even a very sophisticated one at that.
Much like humanity itself.
