Not a specific mistake but more a recurring leak I need to be more mindful of—I frequently get so excited I top decked the card I did that I end up playing the wrong land and then can't cast the game winning spell for a critical turn and lose.

I once shocked a welder with fire and ice, and then hydroblasted welder #2...only to realize opponent was at 1 life...and fire and ice could have just toasted both welders at once....there are like 3 layers of how bad I was sucking here. I think this one is particularly painful.

Day 2 at the Roanoke 2006 Power 9 I started 3-0 but then a series of misplays on my part ensure I didn't make Top 8. In round 4 I failed to tutor for Duress that would have allowed me to push Moat through against Dave Feinstein which he had no answer to game one. Then in the final round of swiss with a chance at 9th place and a Timetwister on the line I went to time with Travis. On the third extra turn Travis cast Tanglewire and passed. The board set up had him with 2 Cities of Brass, 2 other lands, 2 moxes, the Tanglewire, and 2 life. I had seven lands and an inconsequential Pithing Needle in play. I tutored EOT for Yawg. Will with Disenchant already in hand. On Turn 4 I tapped 3 lands and Needle to Tanglewire, cast Will, Lotus and Rack & Ruined from the yard taking out his two moxes, played a land from the yard, played a Divining Top for some unknown reason and passed the turn with only one mana available. We drew.
Fours hours later during the car ride home I realized if I had kept up the mana for Disenchant and targeted Tanglewire with its triggers on the stack turn 5 Travis would've had to tap both Cities and lost. Lots of cursing on that car ride home. Lots.
I remember this match pretty well, If I remember you played a moat and I had some guys in play, gorilla shaman I think. I am positive I had more then 3 permanents in play at that stage of the game, I don't think I would have had to tap down both cities, but yeah, that match was full of fail for both of us. I think I had a chance to win instead if I had vamp tutored for seal of cleansing earlier in the game instead of gorilla shaman because you hit it with a pithing needle the following turn.

Yeah this was a single elim nonproxy type 1 in 2004 here..my 2nd type 1 ever....oddly enough I ended up winning this game still by time spiraling into wheel into trike and shooting!!! I end up losing this tourney to my teammate's turn 1 energy flux(I am playing a crappy ubr stax), he then plays turn 2 back to basics... Here is one for a friend who no longer plays: he is playing a crappy multicolor stax versus mono black discard...this game got out of hand an black is pushing 5 permanents an drops nev disk.....5 minutes of deep thought ensue....My buddy Tinkers for bosh and uses karn to animate nev disk and throws a thran dynamo at it for 4 damage to the amazement of everyone watching!

i misunderstood the purpose of this thread. its not tournament moments you wish you could have back due to a beating, but moments you wish you could have back because of embarrassment.
once I played vampiric tutor, then tinker in the same turn, getting memory jar. my opponent looked at me puzzled, and I said something like: yes I did that backwards. it was in the finals of a tournament and we had a crowd, so I felt real smart.
another time I let a stax pilot krosan grip my black lotus instead of breaking it for mana to cast a relevant spell. reading cards goes a long way sometimes.

I have one close to that leyline one: opponent goes turn 0 gemstone cavern and says "go." I draw a card and flash for the win...only to realize I just got a game loss for drawing an extra card.

In one of the bluebells my opp. Opened with a pregame of 2 gemstone caverns. I asked him if he was sure looked at me and was like yea. So when I said ok your caverns go to the graveyard he scooped the match. I am sure he wanted to have that moment back

Once did a pretty complicated will turn with a 4CC deck....And i lost to being unable to find a tundra -_- (Needed to play balance)
Had done the math on everything else, just missed the fact that my 2 tundras where both in my graveyard (and i had already played a land)

Against Brassman in the top 8 of an SCG, I convinced myself that Necropotence was in my opening hand. After about 20 seconds, I confidently announced "Keep." Necropotence wasn't in my hand....and I didn't have any lands either. My hand was so bad that I lead with Lotus Petal -> Imperial Seal for Island. I don't remember how, but I somehow managed to locate that Necropotence and resolve it, blowing Yawg Willl, Lotus, and all my good cards in the process. I eventually cranked out a Desire for 5 or 6 with ~20 cards left in my deck , which deservedly fizzled.
That game was just a total nightmare. The problems kept snowballing, but Andy's lackluster draw steps weren't finishing me off, so the game just dragged on. The judge was all over me for slow play and I kept finding myself in unfamiliar circumstances. Eventually, we get to the point where I have ~13 cards in my hand from Necro, nearly half my deck RFG'd, and I'm facing down a board of various Wastelands and lock components. That's when the judge said "you have 15 seconds to finish your turn." I was so happy when I lost and the game was over.

I play a 1vs1vs1 game against 2 unsuspecting noobs in a local shop and they just bought a preconstructed deck. I opened with leyline mox ritual illgotten gains, bring back shahrazad and cast it turn 2. I do the same in the subgame (they didnt know u could concede). I'm not sure if they still play magic but i wish i could take it back in hindsight. Blocked an ophidian with Karn only to have him immediately stolen with Shackles by opponent with 1 island in play.
awesome play.

I had to post this one. Top 4 of an old school Waterbury. I am playing the breakout deck of the tournament, Oshawa Stompy… (Survival madness stompy for those who don’t know). I had gotten my way into the top 8 destroying someone’s exalted angel with my super tech of Silklash Spider. At this point I have never won a piece of power. Top 4 is against Slaver. I have him at 4, and I attack with a mongrel. He thirsts in response, discards pentivus, welds it back in and I loose. We play out a few more turns, and then one of my friends goes “Wait, you have a root maze in play, those tokens should have been tapped. Facepalm. I look into my opponents face and can tell that he knew, which was the worst part. I walk out with a library and a hatred of a large portion of the magic community.

Impossible to roll back the game state, I guess. Bad beats, sir.

Have a similar one with some newbies at a local store insisting to play against my strongest deck (I told them i didn't think it was a good idea), and they where all like "no way he can beat 3 sliver decks" (There was 4 vs. me) And i just so happened to have dragon sleeved up...so they all died turn 3.

Luckily my brother and his friend still play after living through me testing flash vs both of them at once. (stompy & burn vs flash...ouch). My favorite play of that whole deal was pact of negationing a land grant and then flashing to kill both with the trigger on the stack. The same went for me testing TPS, dragon...i love these guys, they are suckers for punishment.

Talk between Ben And I
Yeah. Reading Fail. I'm fucking retarded. I will always <3 The Salad man. On a moment I wish I could have back. Round 1 of the Philly Open I played Workshop mastermind Vinny Forino. He was piloting MUD while I was trying an experimental GR stax list. He was hard casting Serum Powders and I thought they were Sphere of Resistances so I played thinking they were SoRs the entire game. I won the match and thought I played like a champ, but really I just mized my way to victory like a 4 year old playing Affinity. I still feel awful about that one so I'm going to buy Vinny a 40 next time I see him.
