I invest in can food/MREs, ammo, guns, and First Aid supplies. My investments are fine.

I always look at the bright side of it, at least I'm making money in the Repo business now.
2  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: What's your Profession?? on: September 12, 2008, 10:41:20 pm
I own a game store, restarting the family cattle farm (200~ head), and looking to get into the repo business there is a lot of money to be made there.
3  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Potential vintage tournament without Yawgmoth’s Will ?? on: March 05, 2007, 06:17:24 pm
Not only am I interested in this I would be willing to donate to the prize support.

Just imagine if one day if the players split with what the DCI says and branch off with a list that truely reflects the game.

Or what if wizards notices that the players want a change this bad they "REALLY" look into changing the format.

before I get flamed I'm just saying what if, i really don't give a rats anus what changes as long as workshops are legal.

Becker won about 7 pieces of power with IT in Stax.meta.  Other members of GWS won with IT too..  Most of them in Team Ogre.meta.  Becker's record vs Vroman was like infy-0 for a while.

Yeah I was on Team Ogre at the time, it wasn't pretty.
5  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Is Vintage fun? on: March 05, 2007, 12:44:06 pm

It's because he plays stax and won't play the fun decks, like combo.  Razz

Come on becker, you know that I love your combo decks. Belcher IS and WILL always be my favorite deck to play.
However if I want to win, or too mindfucked I play stax based off my ability to handle the deck.

Like Becker i've taken a sudo break, only playing in 2-3 tournaments in months and very little testing.
I may return to the game a bit more later on, but like I've said before it's just a stupid game with expensive cards.
I also work in a card shop so i'm around the shit, might as well play and keep up with it.

Then there is time, I have a hot young girlfriend i need to break in before playing cards.

Life > Magic right now
6  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Is Vintage fun? on: March 02, 2007, 01:29:09 pm
No Vintage isn't fun, but it's better than the rest of the damn formats.
7  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Poll: Which Card is the Best Candidate for Unrestriction? on: February 27, 2007, 02:08:42 pm
I for one say ban will and wait 3 months and pull some shit off.

oh and on this subject key can come off.
8  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [Report] 2/24 PMITA Man-prison splits a Pearl in Urbana on: February 26, 2007, 12:51:12 pm
Nice deck, and it was fun (even if i lost) playing against it after all those splits we've had before. If workshop didn't exist i would be playing this deck from now till forever.

It was a great tournament and my g/f was going to take pictures to post, but she forgot to charge the camera.

Can't wait for the next one.
9  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: How would you fix the metagame? on: February 26, 2007, 12:46:09 pm
For vintage, I'd say ban will, and pull as much stuff of the restricted list as they can.

However as a diehard stax player, i'm fine playing against will+storm at least then i know how they win, if will goes, then combo will branch off into a milllion directions and thus making my choices in locking the game up ever so tougher.

When the other player sits down, and i know what he's playing, i can guess 56+ cards in his/her deck. Thats a huge advantage for the prison player, however random decks are a nightmare.
10  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Black Stax (OR the viability of Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth) on: February 15, 2007, 02:39:21 pm
I for one, am really REALLY happy that people are playing God's Eye.

If it wasn't for Factory i'd run that in my 5c stax.
11  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Charbelcher//no lands on: February 11, 2007, 04:39:26 pm
the damage is delt. It's a factor of how many cards are revealed, hitting a land is a clause for ending it early.
12  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: What deck would you be most comfortable playing at a large 10 proxy event. on: February 09, 2007, 09:05:29 am
I'll play 5c Stax till the cows come home.

however IF i knew the metagame was suited for something better.

I might play it.
13  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Black Stax (OR the viability of Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth) on: January 26, 2007, 05:15:20 pm
So I'm testing just one in a five color build (albeit 1/2 the spells are black) and it seems promising.

I believe the greatest thing this land allows stax to do is cast late game leylines in game 2 & 3.

That and pay for  energy flux like effects is kinda sweet.
14  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Reprints of Power cards - possible due to the Yawgmoth's Will judge promo? on: January 24, 2007, 02:57:54 pm
It was a $4 card when I got mine. Hehehe.

I still play the one I drafted.

No power won't be reprinted in any sorta way like will. "IF" they were to reprint some power it should be in really limited numbers to keep the price about the same.
15  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Vintage's Best Creature on: January 24, 2007, 02:52:33 pm
Without a doubt I would go with Dark Confidant. The guy is freakin' nuts.
16  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Major Rule Change Coming Soon: 20 Card Sideboards & Encouraging Rogue Decks on: January 24, 2007, 10:00:39 am
They will change the colors to Pink, Purple, Yellow, Cyan and Magenta.

That might make a few happy like JD, however I'm sure that would piss the rest of us off.
17  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Planar Chaos] Extirpate on: January 16, 2007, 05:35:17 am
I for one am quite happy about the new "format-destroyer" I'll be happy when this format turns into a battle of attrition.

This will be a new additon to my stax deck.
18  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Serum Powder Ichorid and Vintage on: January 06, 2007, 11:23:30 pm
Misdirection and Force of Will both stop Dread Return for a turn.

With
4x Unmask
4x Cabal Therapy

Dread returns "should" get threw through.
19  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: {Planar Chaos Spoiler} Tomb of Yawgmoth on: January 06, 2007, 01:48:17 pm
I'd run it in Stax all night long.  It's an absurd card that fixes your mana perfectly.

Same here, given the amount of black cards i run in 5c stax, this card looks promising.
20  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Serum Powder Ichorid and Vintage on: January 06, 2007, 01:42:16 pm
Manaless Ichorid won't win till turn 3 at the earliest and probably won't win till turn 4.  That gives you plenty of time to use your playskill to win the match.
Well I've tested the hell out of this matchup with a variety of decks and the damn thing goes off ALOT turn 3. Dredge decks are about math, it's that simple &  It's a hard deck to beat game one.
21  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Is Leyline of the Void good enough for a maindeck slot? on: January 05, 2007, 11:34:22 am
A 40% chance of kiiling their graveyard for ZERO mana. Yeah I'm happy about that.
I wouldn't worry much about the 3 dead cards it creates, since thats bazaars job to filter the crap.

And everyone SHOULD be running bazaar.
22  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: {Planar Chaos Spoiler} Magus of the Bazaar on: January 04, 2007, 08:13:34 pm
5c Stax will play the REAL bazaar over this guy.
- You can activate it the turn you play it.
- Replayable with Crucible.
- Oh and colored spells in stax is bad. unless they are uber-br0ken3ss!!!.
23  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: What's The Legal Age? on: December 23, 2006, 09:26:21 am
www.ageofconsent.com

If you don't need it, someone else here will.

You're welcome.

Why Doug has this list on hand is a bit scary don't you think?!?!?

On the subject however what REALLY is the point of getting married that young unless there is some legal/dowry benifit?
24  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Dinosaurs vs. Star Wars on: December 23, 2006, 09:20:23 am
I agree.  Also, if the jedi happens to be someone like Yoda, s/he could lift the dinosaur via force and just drop it and kill it that way.  I say it's no contest.  The force is broken.

Yoda wouldn't the whole Jedi thing would stop him, however he wouldn't let it kill him either.

A Sith however would enjoy the situation.
25  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Mephistopheles' Remix: GWS B/R Stax on: December 18, 2006, 04:43:29 pm
What is up with the lists outside of the opening post?

Root's list has 2 Wastes and 4 Crucible. I don't even pretend to understand the point of running less than 5 strips if you have 4 crucible. What are you recurring all the time that 4 Crucible would even be necessary for? Tangle Wire makes no sense at all either in those numbers, by running it you want to see it early for the stall effect, but you run a whole two. So you won't have any real shot of seeing it by turn 3 on a consistent basis, but you might draw it later for no useful effect. Speaking of the 2 Wastes thing, why not 4 anyway?

Two Triskellion also strikes me as odd. With only two you don't really have a chance to abuse it against Fish (not to mention Null Rod), yet it's not an optimal kill card in other matches due to the speed it kills at with no secondary disruption effect.

The 4 crucibles are because they are the MVP of the deck. Between Factories, recuring land pitched by bazaar, and the ever favorite crucible strip. The basic land has foiled me game after game, thats why i've got a dislike for wasteland. it's so much easier to tutor strip mine and get that lock going. The double trike allows me to push a little more aggroish against decks with smaller men. the double tangle wire is going, it was 3 but i axe'd another one and now the card is going. Once again with the wasteland issue, the deck can only support so many colorless lands and i'd rather have factories over them.

If you want to further discuss your build and original ideas, then feel free to start your own thread.  Discussing something somewhat related but not linking it back to the original discussion is not staying on topic--i.e., if you want to discuss things you don't like with the original build, and holes you perceive in the deck ("Where does this article's logic break down?"), go ahead, but don't just post something completely different and offer no explanation for why it is better than the original. -JD
26  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Mephistopheles' Remix: GWS B/R Stax on: December 17, 2006, 10:46:59 am
JD, you had a long post telling how amazing Confidant is and how you dislike Welder. Still, you ended up running 3 Confidants and 4 Welders. Shouldn't the numbers be other way around?

Once this deck gets rolling and get Bob+Bazaar going. Welders are needed to pull junk back out at the ever growing rate in which your graveyard fills.

my current list, a bit different than my comrades.
4 workshops
4 factories
4 badlands
3 bazaar
3 fetch
2 wasteland
1 strip
1 academy
1 b-ring
10 artifact mana
4 chalice
4 resistor
3 crucible
3 smokestack
2 tangle wire
2 trikes
1 3sphere
3 confidants
3 welders
3 black tutors

I'm not 100% happy with my list, however i'm as smitten as a kitten with the mana base. I might cut the 2 wires for crucible #4, and a metagame slot.

I do miss balance, and crop rotaion but this deck is a move in the right direction from terrible mana base, and random crapping out.

27  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Removing Sharpie ink from cards on: December 16, 2006, 07:12:24 pm
I have a foil mindslaver that has been proxied on the back of it, that I need to do something with.

And no i wasn't the moron who did it, however i couldn't say no to a free card thats playable in dark sleeves.
28  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Top 4 @ Pastimes with 5c Aggro stax. on: December 12, 2006, 04:58:54 pm
A mono colored or two colored version seems more stable than the 5c standard. Without 4x 3sphere the most "broken" thing stax can get is cruicble+strip.
Crop Rotation, Balance, flashback removal, In the Eye of Chaos. are the only reasons i stick with a 5c mana base.

Thrist for knowledge is shit is stax now days, since bazaar is still arround. Bob + bazaar allows me to see 4 cards a turn, keep the best one( mostly a colored spell) then the rest goes packing to be replayed out of the graveyard. As you see the only 3cc Colored spell i still play is In the eye of chaos, and the on again off again tinker. It's going to be hard for me to EVER maindeck one again.

Gorilla Shaman is iffy for me, I'll always pick something else in a 5c build, however he's by buddy in uba stax.

the rest of the cards I play already in my 5c stax.

Like i said before, I plan on having as little as possible in play.
workshop, wasteland/mox, factory, rainbowland, & bazaar. Thats all i need, thats all i want.

Playing the mirror, night after night for months, and all the matches vs vroman has tought me that you have to run a tight shift, & dead cards = dead player. It drives me nuts running all these non-artfact spells, but thier shear-brokeness or ability to find strip mine is required.

29  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Top 4 @ Pastimes with 5c Aggro stax. on: December 12, 2006, 10:21:45 am
As anyone who watch me play I had Crucible + strip mine in at least 1/4 of my games, and were talking most of these times by turn 2/3. The reason i run like this is after HOURS of watching vroman play his uba stax with 4-5 lands in play the whole game. with twenty-three lands in the deck most of the time i throw them in the graveyard. An idea game is to set up the crucible+strip by turn 3 then run off a bazaar, workshop, factory, & rainbow land for the rest of the game. I was angry still at my mana base last night when i wrote this but I still can't stand the lands i have to run for the effect of the game. I might try badlands in my deck over gemstone mines if i decided to keep playing 5c.
@ Eric.
You were lucky that I played this pile and not something that hated out combo. I'm just giving ya shit eric. If anyone was lucky it was me for applying enough pressure those games.
@ Polynomial P
I've ran tinker in the board for about half a year now. I use it in matchups were i need a tutor for ~this~ answer. outside that it's an ugly card for the casting cost. In games where Bob leaves I might bring in tinker to improve my chances of getting welder+jar combo going. once i get a bob + bazaar my one workshop in play gets use almost every turn.
tinker 4 duplicant vs oath, gifts, stax
tinker 4 trike vs fish, stax, combo
tinker 4 jar vs stax, fish.

@ Disurben
I was angry at the mana base, i've had issues with stax's mana base for almost 2 years now and I believe the future of stax is in a solid one or two color mana base. Our matches are hard enough we don't need to be fighting ourselves while were at it.
My brother once said 5c stax doesn't need an oppnent to lose, because it is it's own enemy.
30  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Top 4 @ Pastimes with 5c Aggro stax. on: December 11, 2006, 10:11:45 pm

Round 1: Eric Becker Playing Bazaar Storm (1-2 Lose) - He was lucky
Round 2: AJ ______  Playing 2-land Belcher (2-0 Win) - bad deck
Round 3: John Frankowsi Playing U/w Fish (2-0 Win) - Trike + factory > fish
Round 4: Josh Rayden Playing MDG (2-0 Win) - Prettiest deck ever I ever Cap'd
Round 5:  Donavan (GWS) Playing URBana Fish (2-1 Win) trike + factory > fish again
Round 6: Mark (i think) from ICMB (ID)

Top 8: Eric Becker AGAIN: (2-1) He wasn't as lucky this time. During the match:
I had the best chain of vapors play EVER!!!!
i'm beating like a motherfucker with trike, during my upkeep(empty hand) i bazaar, eric chains my trike, i get ready to throw it in the gy and then decided to sac my bazaar to bounce a vault and sac my factory to bounce my crypt, bazaared the replayed the trike.
craziness.

Top 4: TK playing Grim Long (0-2 Lose) During the match:
Game 1:I thought the guy was playing MDG so i start with Chalice@2 Go.
He drops first turn Bargain. Nuff said.
Game 2: I get Leyline, chalice for 0, 1, and something else like cruicle.
then draw mana 5 turns in a row with NO THREATS. some time later EOT rebuild and i'm on my way home.

Thoughts after the tournament.
Leyline sucks in stax when you keep hands for the leyline but the rest is iffy. in addition i HATE dead cards later on.
5c Stax has the worst mana base in the world. This might be my last time playing that crap.

Props:
Vroman for recommending Time Walk, & a place to stay.
moxlotus for loaning said Time walk.
Flux for his mad driving & playing skills.
Blaine for 0-2 dropping and getting me Subway.
TEAM OGRE for remaining friends w/ me after my leave.
Becker for getting lucky round one FORCING me to play better all day.
The rest of GWS for moral support.
Pastimes for another great tournament.

Slops:
Flux for Top8ing w/ a deck that cost $50 + bazaars to play while I built the most expensive deck in the format to play. Not that i have anything against flux just damn price of deck is what bugs me.
DCI Sol Rings for dropping so damn low in value.
Living so far away from all my comrades.

My first decent tournament with stax since gencon. However i think it's time for a massive change for the archtype.
