1  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / North Carolina, c'mon and raise up! (Magic in NC) on: May 17, 2004, 06:37:07 am
I'm relocating to Charlotte (haven't finalized the date yet) and will definitely be interested in Type 1 action once I get settled in.

Personally i think we can go with an unlimited proxy tournament, and hopefully get whatever store we have to offer some type of chase T1 card that will attract people. Not necessarily a P9 component because most stores would consider that too high of a risk for a first time tournament, but something to atleast attract players of all levels.

Any other suggestions?

Another thought could be a store credit prize structure. An example for an 8 player $10 entry fee could be store credit to the top 4.
4th $10
3rd $15
2nd $20
1st $35

Total entry fee becomes the prize pool in store credit. This way the top players win something, the store gains, and it is highly flexible. The hosting store never loses and would be attractive in the beginning for a store to try it out.

I wear glasses (progressive bifocals now)

I used to play without my (old) glasses. I could see my hand but sometimes had to lean forward to see what my opponent was playing. If I played with my (old) glasses, I could clearly see what my opponent was playing but my hand would be blurry unless I held them out from my body.

Now I just wear my new glasses to see clearly at both distances. I also wear a ball cap with the brim pulled low to reduce the chances of opponent seeing my cards in any reflection in the glasses.

...  Power Nine is banned ....5 Proxies are allowed.....

Strange Type 1 bastardization. Why do they even bother? I'd rather just play Type 1.5 than this.

If you are allowing proxies, why ban the Power 9? If it is because some have all the power and want to level the field, then just allow 10 proxies.

Would be interested in learning the thought/reasons behind this if you know.

May 16th for a workshop?  Where is this gaming depot?  Is it in Chicago proper or a suburb?  Sorry, I'm from downstate Illinois and the magic scene down here is abysmal (everyone plays Type II).  Been wanting to find a type I tournement but haven't heard of one within driving distance.

Hannah Games in St Louis looks like it might start having monthly Type 1
April they had a sanctioned tourny for an Alpha Mox Sapphire. They had 22 players I believe.

Also, The Gathering Ground in St Louis has been holding Type 1 on the 3rd Saturday of the month. Still building players. Store Credit goes to Top 4, total Store Credit is whatever the amount of Entry Fees collected were.

6  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [report]Saint Louis T1. 1st place with Madness on: April 22, 2004, 11:13:47 am
Even though it didn't matter in the long run, it very well could have. And those other rulings were hinky also.

BTW Jeff...I did think the split was a little lopsided but didn't say anything because hey...what do I know...I'm just getting into Type 1

Next time I'll voice my opinions and if they are stupid let them tell me so  Rolling Eyes

3. LED can't pay madness cost. I wish you would have drawn your non-functioning LED against me!

Please explain how the following doesn't work.

Have LED in play, pop LED for the mana, discard hand, remove the madness cards from game, pay madness cost with the mana from LED.
8  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Type 1 in Charlotte NC on: April 21, 2004, 06:49:14 am
Appreciate all the info. In job hunting mode and currently it looks like Charlotte might be my best chance.

Just as the Type 1 scene is starting to grow in St Louis it looks like I'll have to leave it.

@argus definitely will PM if I end up in Charlotte. Maybe we can get the Type 1 action started again in Charlotte.

I may be relocating to Charlotte NC and was wondering if there is any Type 1 action in the area.

If not, where would the closest Type 1 action be?

Thanks

Ah....youth...believes what a recruiter says  Twisted Evil

All I can say is I tried for Okinawa on 3 seperate reenlistments and never got there. Did my overseas time aboard ship. Did see more of the world that way but shipboard life can get VERY boring at times.

11  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Deck]W/G Parfait......and an introduction on: February 25, 2004, 10:06:39 am
I agree, I'm not sure off the G addition.

I'm playing a WB Parfait, still doing some tweaking.

Think about switching out the Sacred Mesa for Goblin Charbelcher's.

My current build:

9 plains
1 swamp
1 mountain
1 bloodstained mire
1 serra's sanctum
2 scrubland
1 black lotus
1 mox diamond (probably will switch to a plateau)
1 mox jet
1 mox pearl
1 mox ruby
1 library of alexandria
1 sol ring

1 claws of gix
1 zuran orb
1 mind twist
4 cabal therapy
3 land tax
1 enlightened tutor
2 argivian find
3 swords to plowshares
4 orim's chant
3 isochron scepter
3 scroll rack
1 seal of cleansing
1 balance
1 demonic tutor
3 academy rector
2 goblin charbelcher
1 moat
1 ivory mask
1 humility
1 yawgmoth's bargain

This is still an early version but has been working well in my limited experience with it.  I have been lucky in getting the chant on a stick many times. Just remember, you can pay 2W (W for the kicker) to also prevent them from attacking.

The following 2 links should help a LOT.  They're in the Archive section.  A lot of work went into them, and they are as good as a primer when read completely.

I think they'll help you tremendously in figuring out what to do with your build.  The first one is Rector Trix, and the second one is Rector Tendrils.

Does anyone know where these are located now?  The links bring back nothing.
