Brassman drew twice, scooping the second time and is out.
Jigglypuff is 4-0 with our gifts deck as far as I know. He'll most likely make top 8 with that.
Travis is 2-1-1.

Lowest scg tournout ever apparently, 6 rounds.
Bunch of ICBMers no idea how theyre doing.

Turnout seems pretty low today, I wonder how it will be tomorrow.

They can't even blame snowstorms this time.  East Coast not interested in vintage much anymore?  It'd be weird if SCG had to discontinue the events in their own area due to lack of interest.  Maybe people are not willing to travel to the South twice in a few months (I know it was a factor for most of my teammates).  It would make more sense to spread their events out through SCG's 3 locations.  Yes, I'm sure everyone's tired of me bitching about the lack of Chicago events this year so far, but if the last Richmond was in Chicago, the locations & times would have been more spread out and been more encouraging for travel.  Last year it alternated almost perfectly between the three locations and the only bad turnouts were when there were blizzards.

It was said they would announce their next events at this tournament.  Have they?

Maybe this threads should be moved to somewhere it can get more exposure, I am not sure if many people are seeing this. If so, then I guess no one is interested in speculation on what is going on. Very Happy

I'm going to have to agree with Moxlotus on this one, There are many Vintage players in the Midwest area that would like to not have to travel a great distance EVERY time to get to these tournaments.

Chicago anyone???

They miss out on so many Canadians as well. We can easily send 30-40 to these events provided that they are within a reasonable driving distance.

I would have gone if it was closer to NY as well - perhaps they should move the events a little bit farther north, like into PA or NJ, or even NY itself. Waterbury tends to get good turnouts, as it is within easy distance of New England and the Tristate area.

Top 8 in random order as i have no idea how it played out:
sundering jerk top 8d got kicked out for cheating unintentionally, he was really tired. They awarded him no prize saying he was just playing for prize; so he "ate a beta time walk." I am sure this event will become more clear in the future, but this isa ctually what happened.

ben carp with oath

izzet combo, apparently reset + fire/ice is the combo.

2 slaver

1 ss

and this scg was won by gg's own nate pease aka jiggly puff with our new gifts list.

izzet combo!?

Since the Guildmage costs 3 to activate and since you can't target copies, don't you need like 5 lands and 3 different cards (not to mention it has to be during your opponent's turn) to go off with Reset?  This seems impossible, oh well, this list should be interesting.

Here is a bit more descriptive top 8 report from someone who was there.

Quarter Finals
Gifts beats Ben Carp Oath

Slaver beats SS [After match slaver guy gets a lecture about a bunch of mistakes in his match from the judge (not putting back two on BS, not taking pain from FoW/Fetches etc.)]

Brandon Todaro with Xerox (Izzet Combo) beats Old School Affinity

Slaver beats Gifts

Semi's

Slaver guy shows up late, the judges pay careful attention to everything he does. After his opponent cuts his deck he looks at the bottom card, the judges see it and pull him aside to question it. He claims he was looking to make sure his deck is facing the right way (so that when he draws cards they will be face up in his hand). This plus a plethora of other cautions get him removed from the tourny, his prize is forfeited, and he essentially has a fit.

Xerox beats Gifts

Finals

right before the finals are scheduled to start the disgruntled slaver player goes and asks Pete Hoefling something, then comes back and starts aggressively thumbing through his deck... him and the judge have a short convo I didn't really catch, and next thing I know he exclaims "MY BETA TIME WALK" then tears said card into quaters and proceeds to chew it... lots of pictures were taken, I'm sure they will be posted soon.

Then the finals finally start.

Game one Xerox mulls to five and Gifts leads with Recall->Tinker->Collosus go. the end...

Game two lasts something like 20 turns, most of which there are 2 collosus' staring each other in the face... GG Gifts eventually finds some business, and resolves a long will turn to Tendrils winning the lotus and a twister.

The environment was pretty drain heavy, I scrubbed 1-3 with grim long, running into drain after drain after drain.

Dan Carp played something with workshops, I didn't really see what...

Juggernaut Go played something with shops and Bobs... and that is about all I remember.

The top 8 pretty much was as expected.  Aside from the decks mentioned, there was also a pretty straightforward affinity port played by a quirky British gentleman whose name I didn't quite catch.  I think my only funny story from judging the event today was watching him repeatedly play 1-mana spells into his own Chalice for one on the same turn, and then watching his opponent do the exact same thing on the following turn.

Klep, on the other hand, ought to have some amusing perspectives to share once he gets home, since I guess he doesn't want to use my laptop.  Stay tuned.

Also, I remain firm that the Time Walk eater was probably eating a very well constructed fake.  Fakes of this quality are out there and are very difficult to tell from the real thing, even down to the distinctive blue stripe that all of the naysayers pointed to.  I mean, honestly, who would eat his or her own $400+ Magic card?  That's just silly.

Also, Jesse Pinchot won (I think) a Pearl or Emerald as a result of him having being the 9th seed and the Time Walk eater getting DQ'd.  He left before this all went down, so if you're reading this, you probably have more information about this than he does.

I'd like to make clear that this was a one off, and didn't happen  in any other previous or subsequent games.  All a service for your entertainment, Brendan and I pre-arranged it...

I've been playing pretty much the same deck for about 18 months with some results here and there.  Simon.  Quirky?

I doubt it was a fake.  He was pissed off.  I've witnessed an auction to "burn the black lotus", quickly followed by another auction to "hold the black lotus while it burns" in the past...  I gave up expecting people to be sensible long ago.

Umm... Ya... It was a real time walk... I am 100% possitive... 100%... NO JOKE... The judge accused Louis Gentile of trying to "manipulate the decks through shuffling" so that he could win power. Louis was so affended by this that he said, "you think I would cheat against my fucking friend who I drove up 14 hours with! Its a fucking game and I am here to play magic! You think I am playing for power ??!?!?!? HUH!!! <starts rummaging through his library> Do you like my TIME WALK!!! <tears into 4 pieces and starts to eat!> If I REALLY cared about prizes sooo much to cheat would I do this?

While Louis was eating he made many funny remarks such as: "UMMMM>>>> YUMMMM... 1 Colorless!!! 1 Blue!!! NEVER TASTED SOOOOO GOOOOODDDD... Amy Weber!! UMMMMMMM.... So hot! So tasty! So DELICIOUS!!! This is how I take extra turns asshole!!!

Louis drove 12 hours in an unfamilar car belonging to Travis Laplantes ohhhh so sexy mother. 1993 Honda crap... Louis' play errors were clearly not scene as cheating from anybody there, but all the mistakes were technical, minor infractions that never gave him any type of game advantage vs. me in are match! He played against me and even I thought his DQ was a BS decision by a biased judge who was out to get him even (thanks for the lotus btw!)
What I found personally histerical was that large groups of people fought over the saliva ridden remains of a REAL (this is confirmed) time walk...

What happened to storm combo?  I thought Long was the nuts?  Was Steve and others not there?  I know Becker was, but I'm not sure how he did.

Izzet combo--wow.  This I gotta see.

Louis made something more than power, he made infamy.  This story is going to be remembered in the Type 1 community much like the "no lands for the rest of the game" ruling from like 5 years ago.

Steve and others were not there, as was stated earlier, only a turn out of about 50... but I still had fun. props to Star City for still holding both days of the tourny, and super props to Gentile for making the MOST SAVAGE play of the tourny.

Becker was playing his own creation, he didn't seem really happy with it. I was playing long, and like I said I was ruined by drains all day... the one match I won, was against U/G Madness, and he still managed to Force 3 Draw-7's and Circular logic something else big... just way too much counter magic for me.

Izzet Combo was the nuts, we've been tweeking this list for the past 6 monthes, I will post an exact list tomorrow night.

Just to explain to whoever is unfamiliar, this is how the izzet deck works:

Control the game into the late game, where you have a 6+ Islands, Volcanic Island, and Izzet Guildmage in play, though if you have already cast high tide you only need 2 Islands and Volcanic.

You can then tap your islands, cast reset copy it, tap all your other islands to float mana, and the copy resolves, untapping your islands.  Then with your untapped lands copy the Reset again, float mana etc.  This generates infinite mana.

With your infinite mana, cast Fire/Ice, and copy it infinite times with the Izzet Guildmage

I have this built in Legacy, but never actually thought of porting it to T1
