I put this beastly event on my calendar already.  I will actually test for this and be the only New Yorker to represent New England.  Too much talk of this stax and creatures stuff here and not enough BLUE.

There's been some talk about making this a 2-day event.  What are people's thoughts on that?  Would a group hotel discount make the difference?  What sort of event would people like to see in Day 2?

I'm definitly trying to come to this, I dont think it "feels" big enough for a 2-day event.

Also, personally, it seems too close to stay overnight, and too far away to drive to 2 days in a row.

Anyway, Im not trying to discourage the TO, I just think it might be financially, in his best interest to keep this to a 1 day ordeal

What's the matter?  Afraid you'll lose to people who come from farther away?  As a one-day event, this is not significantly different than any other New England or New York tournament.

This should be done as a series of tournaments, or at least 1 in New England and 1 in New York. I know for me at least, I'd have problems doing a 2 day event as money would be an issue.

By two day event here we mean one larger, marquee event, and a separate event/events on another day - not a mega event to span two days.  If you could attend one event before, there's absolutely no reason you still couldn't go to just one.  Adding another day just makes it more worth the trip for out-of-towners, and gives me more Vintage!

I'm putting out a call for volunteers to do coverage for this event.  What constitutes "coverage" is still kind of up in the air, but I'm thinking about doing match coverage (play by play, or better still, video if that can be arranged) for at least Swiss feature matches, and for all top 8 matches.  Also interviews with representative teams from each region, and maybe other "name" players who happen to show up.

I'll see if I can offer compensation, but I can't guarantee much if any.  This would mostly be a service to the community.  If someone wants to volunteer with the proviso that they'd only really start if/when they drop from the main event, I'd understand.

Let me see if I can test-run something at Myriad this month assuming that's cool with Dan, if that's work well enough, you may have a volunteer.  WARNING: I have no experience whatsoever with video equipment / coverage reporting.

Also, this is contingent on my dropping from the main event.

I'd encourage others to volunteer, as I'm sure anyone else would be more capable than myself.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.

Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops.  I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

In case you were wondering what that seismic shift you felt today was, that was just this tournament getting even more awesome.  So Rebecca Guay is coming to sign cards.  I'm pretty sure this means Kowal will automatically be attending and then dropping after Round 2 to stalk RG as she exits the building.

For the rest of you, she can sign artwork and stuff.  Too bad Mark Tedin won't be onhand to sign my Lotus, but maybe next time I suppose.

I am not going to Vintage Champs.  This is my Vintage Champs.

I'll be testing, and ready.  The New York team will dominate, because it's what we do.  I'll loan out some of the extra Yankee jerseys I've got, and see if I can find some other offensive gear to let everyone up there know just how much we all love the Boston Red Sox.

Ok, after some further discussion with representatives of New York and Pennsylvania, I think I might go about picking the teams a little differently.

We're still going to do voting.  But the people who can be voted on to represent each region will be picked from short-lists of name players.  I'll be handling the short-list for New England.  I already have some names in mind, but if you think you deserve to be on the ballot for Team New England and I haven't contacted you via PM, message me or post here before the end of this weekend.

Nick Detwiler's going to be handling the short-list for Team New York.  I think he has some names in mind too, but if you think you deserve to be on Team New York, PM "Prospero" and let him know before the end of this weekend.  I guess there's less urgency there, though, since Team New York is obviously going to get slaughtered.

And then there's Team Pennsylvania.  Either I or Nick Coss will be handling the short-list for Team PA, but now we're really getting into exercises in futility.  You might as well vote for the Eagles, because there's no way in hell they or any player from PA is going to win anything.  Ever.

I think keeping this to one day is probably the best idea.

I agree that there should be an event in New York and an Event in New England.

With Philly in the Grudge Match as well, i think there should be one in Philly as well as New York.  With three tournaments, we could definitely all see what area is the best vintage area.

NE > NY +  PA (COMBINED)

In New England we actually use the color  {U}  I hear reactive spells are good  Very Happy

So the only MUD you better be bringing better be stuck to the botom of your shoes....because New England will stomp your workshops all day
