I'm psyched you will be coming, Steve.

And the .5 is not something new.  I have done a few smaller .5 events in between my big ones in the past.  The are kinda like bye qualifiers for the big show.

I would love to come to this but... I just don't know if I can get two weekends off in a row (already put in for NYSE the week after). Also I put in for a PTQ in Philly on the 2nd.

Actually now that I think of it I'm due for a nice week's vacation. I haven't had one since GenCon. This and NYSE would make for fine bookends. Methinks I shall put in for that instead.

So, anybody from the Philly area up for this?

So, some of you may have seen that Nick Coss(Iron Chef) scheduled a tourney on the same date as this.  Nick and I are good friends and I know that it was the only date he could use for his event.  There was no malice involved.

I would be lying if I didn't admit that my first selfish thought was "then...wait until a free date is available".  The more I thought about it, though, is that it shouldn't at all be unreasonable for two locations 3 HOURS APART to have decent vintage events.

See, we shouldn't be striving to pull the 50 niche players to drive 2 hours one way one weekend and then 2 hours another way another weekend, then two hours a third way a third weekend, etc to play in our vintage events.  If we want to get this format back in shape, we need to build 20 player venues into 30 player ones and into 40 player ones.  A few years ago, ELD or Myriad Events were running 30 -40 people tourneys the same days that Long Island or NJ events had just as many people.

So, instead, I see this as an opportunity to refocus my goal for my event.  I want to make my event a ittle more "entry level friendly".  Something that provides reasons for some players to give Vintage a shot.  I'm not looking at holding a 35 person event where 15 come up from the NJ/Penn area.  Instead, I am going to try to take what would otherwise be a 20 person event and make it into a 35+ person shindig while Nick runs a sweet event at the same time.  This would, indeed, be a good day for Vintage.

Some ideas include:
A $5 reduced fee for players who have not played in any of my events before.
The changing of the proxy limit from 15 to 20.
The loaning of decks that are proxied or budget to players without a deck.
A campaign at local stores the next few weeks to promote vintage.

So, in retrospect, I am only saddened by one thing: that I won't be able to see friends like Nick, Ralph, the ever-drunk James Hangley, etc. this April 9th

But, I guess the idea is, if the events go well, it will spurn more opportunities to see them in the future.

So here is what I need from each of you.

Step 1: Get mapquest and determine the distance to my event and the distance to Nick's.  Whichever is closer go to that one.
Step 2: Whichever event that is, bring someone who has never played Vintage before.  If money is an issue for this person, and you would have space in your car anyway, offer them a carpool free of charge.  If they need a deck, build an extra and give it to them.  Whatever it takes, do your part, and help make this work. (In the case of my event, if you don't have an extra deck(or 2+ for multiple friends) contact me...I will do whatever I can to make sure they have one to play.
Step 3: If this doesn't work, kidnap someone, teach them magic and see step two about providing them a deck.

Long story short:
There have been alot of debates about how to grow magic.  Here it is...the key secret...the Holy Grail...the missing Atlantis...

Get A Person to Play Vintage!

That's it...no excuses...don't take no for an answer.

See you (and them) at Waterbury!

I would love to go, but unfortunately this is also conflicting with a Legacy GPT at TJ's Collectibles. I look forward to more Vintage tournaments over the summer though.

If we want to get this format back in shape, we need to...

Stop playing with Tarpans?

I for one am pumped for this event and I hope we have a great turnout.
