Diopter and I will be playing in about 15 minutes in a room called "Vintage TMD." It has a password for him to join, but spectators should still be free to enter.

I took it down 2-0 over Diopter. I was running my "West Coast Wins" deck, which can be found here.

He was using a Bob/Jace control deck, but with the spicy twist of including Wastelands (which almost cost me G1).

Game One:
I win the roll and snap keep a hand with Library, a Ruby, Lightning Bolt, and some other stuff. He opens with Crypt, Mana Vault, and a Bob. On my turn I draw off Library and Bolt the Confidant, then pass. He Merchant Scrolls for FOW and then resolves another Bob, which reveals a Wasteland next turn to kill my Library. I Brainstorm on the end of that turn, and he Forces it. On my turn I play land and pass, on his turn he reveals Jace and plays it. He fateseals himself and passes the turn. At some point he Wastelands one of my Underground Seas. I draw and pass again, and on his turn he reveals Tinker to Dark Confidant. I play Clique at the start of his draw phase and nuke the Tinker. His Mana Crypt finally started hitting him, and he was down to 7 life. I had Clique ready to swing and a Yawgmoth's Will in hand to point my Lightning Bolt at him, but after seeing his top 3 with Brainstorm he conceded.

Game Two:
I keep a strong hand with Misstep, Ancestral, Time Walk, Mox, and Mana Drain. He opens with Demonic Tutor, Black Lotus, pass. I Time Walk, which he Forces. He untaps and plays Jace, fatesealing me. I untap and play a land, Ancestral (resolves), Preordain finding a FOW, and pass the turn. He Brainstorms with Jace and attempts to cast Confidant, which I force. I untap and float mana, Gush, Demonic Tutor for Fastbond, Gush again...and that's pretty much the game. I eventually find a Mystical Tutor, which puts Yawgmoth's Will on top, which I draw into with Vendilion Clique targeting myself. Clique technically won both games for me, what a great card!

I just finished 0-2 against Onslaught.

Game 1: I have turn 1 land, Crypt, Vault, Confidant which he has Lightning Bolt for. I am thinking possibly Landstill though I believe he had Mox Jet. Onslaught has t1 Library which is deadly. Fortunately a second Confidant joins the board.

I win 3 consecutive Crypt rolls before losing 1, and land two consecutive Wastelands to kill Library and a USea. Onslaught appears a bit mana screwed but manages to get to three mana, while I am sitting on a ton of the stuff. I land Jace and fateseal myself to bump to 5. On the next turn, with the game-winning Tinker on the Confidant reveal, Onslaught cliques me. I have no Force, and so now the clock is against me as I am at low life. I am disconnected from the server, so I agree to take the loss. I don't know what Onslaught had in hand but I was at 50-50 at such low life anyway.

In retrospect I was a bit aggressive on Mana Crypt.

Game 2: I board in Vexing Shusher, Flusterstorm and Mana Drain for Imp. Seal and a couple Hurkyl's Recalls. I mulligan to a hand of DT, Land, Mox, Jace, Drain, Force. I force T1 time walk. Onslaught believes this was a mistake - he may be correct but I wanted to try and bone him if he kept a hand where Time Walk was instrumental. I land T2 Jace, but make an utter error by Fatesealing. I *know* he's not on Landstill but am still living in utter fear of multiple Lightning Bolts.

A turn later, I try Confidant, which is forced. My decision not to Brainstorm and to Force that Time Walk ends up coming back to bite me as my Onslaught goes off on T4 with Gushbond, culminating in Mystical tutor into Yawg Will and Clique. I have not a single answer to any of this.

Conclusion:
- Onslaught played a pretty tight game. Props
- I still don't think much of Cliques. It did grab my Tinker G1, but a Thoughtseize would have grabbed my T2 Confidant in the face of my Wastelands, and Onslaught might have won more easily.
- I played too much in fear of my Jaces due to Onslaught's early Lightning Bolt, culminating in a terrible read of Landstill.

Just won over Cruel Ultimatum in 3.

List as follows:

1 Black Lotus
4 Chalice of the Void
3 Crucible of Worlds
1 Mana Crypt
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Sapphire
3 Smokestack
1 Sol Ring
4 Sphere of Resistance
4 Tangle Wire
4 Thorn of Amethyst
1 Trinisphere
2 Karn, Silver Golem
4 Lodestone Golem
3 Phyrexian Metamorph
4 Ancient Tomb
2 Ghost Quarter
4 Mishra's Factory
1 Strip Mine
1 Tolarian Academy
4 Wasteland

SB
4 City in a Bottle
3 Tormod's Crypt
2 Duplicant
4 Precursor Golem
2 Ghost Quarter

Game 1
I start on the draw, CU takes a mulligan to 6.
CU Plays Sapphire into a preordain, then plays a Misty.

I play Ancient tomb into Sol Ring into Sphere of resistance, which resolves.

CU Untaps, plays U Sea, and ends turn.

I untap into Wasteland on the U Sea, and play another Sphere off the back of Tomb and Sol Ring.

CU Plays a Forbidden Orchard on his turn, cracking Misty for an Island and tapping out for a Sensei's Top.

I play a Workshop and tap down over spheres to play a crucible, and forget to swing with the Token before I pass turn.

CU spins top off the sapphire on his turn, taps down to play a lotus, giving me another dude.

I bring back my wasteland to hit the orchard, and play a Lodestone Golem, which resolved.  I attack with the two tokens.

CU untaps and plays an island after spinning his top.

I untap, then attack.  I drop a Mishra's factory and a Phyrexian Metamorph to get the scoop.

Game 2

--I side out 2 factories in favor of 2 Ghost Quarters--

I mull to 6 and keep a questionable opener.  UC starts with Jet, Usea, Time Walk.
He untaps into preordain, dropping Pithing Needle on Wasteland.

I start with Tomb, Pearl, Crucible, which sticks.

He untaps and drops an Island, laying down a Time vault.

I lay a factory and attempt a Smokestack, knowing what is coming.  I probably should have played Metamorph on Pithing Needle naming Time Vault, and that thought is quickly confirmed after he Spell Pierced my Stack and drops Voltaic Key.

Scoopsville.

Game 3

--I keep the same SB--

I start on the play.  Tomb into Ruby into Crucible.  Crucible is good.

CU plays a Misty and passes.

I play a Thorn off the Tomb, baiting the counter.  If not, I can double sphere him out as I'm holding another tomb in hand.  It gets the Amy Weber treatment, and I drop another Tomb into another Thorn.  This one sticks around.

He plays a U Sea, cracks Misty for an Island, and Preordains some cards.

I play a Ghost quarter, and take the opportunity to drop a Sphere of Resistance as he is tapped out.  Ghost quarter hits his U Sea to take him off black, and he gets an Island.

He drops a Misty on his turn and passes again.

I draw, play Strip Mine, and decide to pour some salt on one of his Islands.

CU plays a Forest on his turn, and ships it back.

I get the salt shaker out of the trash can with Crucible, and decide to kill some trees.  I tap down to play another Sphere of Resistance (that's 3 sphere effects while he is stunted on 2 lands).

CU draws his top card and extends his virtual hand.

4 City in a Bottle
This seems like a particular pain on Cockatrice.  What's the ruling on this?  All cards are assumed to be Arabian Nights only if printed in no other form?

So I was victorious in a very nerve-wracking Round 1 vs.  Dark Times. I went 2-1 and after winning game 1 on the draw. My opponent was Yukon Cornelius and she was a more than competent Dark Times pilot so losing the die roll game 1 definitely upped the anti in the match. Here's how the match went.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgKXvZcEyf4&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Game 1: After losing the die roll I fan open the following 7: Jet, Chalice, Academy, Emerald, Smokestack, Waste, Ghost Quarter

Now this hand would be amazing on the play vs. Dark Times, but on the draw it is dangerous at best. If she has a duress effect (usually Dark Times will on turn 1) I am in trouble. Why did I keep this hand then if I suspected turn 1 Duress/Thoughtseize? Well Dark Times is a relatively slow deck to developing resources and Turn 1 Smokestack after 2 moxen seems pretty solid as a play. at that point I'm hoping to hold up waste (vs. the combo) and smoke her out until I can find a threat. This hand is borderline in my mind but keepable as you sorta need to take risks game 1 on the draw vs. Dark Times. I elect to keep.

Turn 1: She leads with Double Leyline. I'm happy to see this as it means that she could have less threats in hand. She then leads with Swamp, Jet, Duress. Obviously this is rough for us, but I guess I couldn't have suspected anything less. She, predictably, takes Chalice. She then taps her Jet and plays Imperial Seal. At this point I am thinking I am boned.

My Turn 1: I topdeck CHALICE OF THE VOID. I am shocked, but slightly relieved that I may be back in this one. I play mox, mox and academy and Chalice @2. I pass

Her Turn 2: She plays a black lotus (gotta think that's what she tutored for with Imp Seal cause cause she had confidant in hand?) and says go.

My Turn 2: I rip Karn and decide to play it to avoid it being thoughtseized from my hand. I then drop waste and tap it to animate lotus and kill it.

Her Turn 3: She does nothing

My Turn 3: I rip Metamorph but hold back on playing it. I attack with Karn sending her to 14. I play out my Smokestack. I then tap emerald and animate her jet to send her to 1 swamp in play.

Her Turn 4: She plays Swamp and says go.

My turn 4: I add a counter to Smokey and rip Lodestone Golem and play out Golem and Metamorph copying it. That induces the GG from Yukon.

We go to game 2-->

I board in 2 Ratchet Bomb and 3 Maze Of Ith for 3 Thorn, 1 Karn, and 1 Crucible.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIMZ33HlUbc&feature=youtube_gdata_player

My opening hand is: Ancient Tomb, Chalice, Sol Ring, Factory, Shop, Chalice, Chalice. This seems quite keepable until. . .

Her Turn 1: She leads with Swamp and Hex Parasite. This basically nukes my Chalice plan.

My Turn 1: I still elect to play out Chalice @2 to force her to dump mana on her turn into removing the counters and NOT into playing out her combo. This ends up almost working out for me as a strategy and these Chalices become mini time walks in a way.

Her Turn 2: She plays a swamp and does indeed remove both counters on chalice. She then attacks me with a 3/1 Parasite. I go to 17. She says go.

My Turn: I top deck Lodestone Golem. I have now the mana (have a second shop) to play both Chalice @2 and Golem. I am feeling better about my chances to race at this point I say go

Her Turn 3: She plays a Wasteland and then spends all 3 mana she has to remove Chalice counters. She then attacks with her 3/1 parasite taking me to 14.

My Turn 3: I run out Chalice @2 again after topdecking Karn. I attack with Golem and then run out Chalice @2 again + Karn. This leaves me in pretty good shape to race (or so I thought).

Her Turn 4: She plays out a second Wasteland and runs out a hardcast Dismember on my Lodestone Golem. This seems like the right play but I was surprised to see it at that moment.

My Turn 4: I topdeck another Factory and play it out. I then animate my factory and attack with my non-sick one. I then pump it to a  3/3 with my other Factory. Now I bascially have my pants down and Yukon can do whatever she wants.

Her Turn 5: She runs out Emissary of Despair which is definitely going to be a problem in the long run. I do have the ability to nuke my own chalices though and reduce her clock. The card that really puts it away for her is the imperial seal that follows. I am nice to her and remind her that her Emissary only costs 3. Otherwise the Seal doesn't come down that turn and I have a better chance to race.

My Turn 5: I rip a Maze and realize pretty quickly that it is futile at stopping her due to here waste superiority. I elect to play tomb and get rid of both of my chalice to decrease her clock from 2 turns to 3 (presuming no combo). She chooses to block with Emissay. This seemed shocking to me at the time, but makes perfect sense if one considers the combo is in hand and she doesn't want to get outraced somehow.

Her Turn 6: She taps both wastes and pays 2 life to remove counters from chalice. She then plays a Hexmage and Dark Depths.

My Turn 6: I fail to topdeck Metamorph and offer up the GG.

We go to Game 3 -->

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1x7BV3Hkvow&feature=youtube_gdata_player

My opener for this game is sort of disgusting, but not as disgusting as my first top deck. Here was my opening 7: Shop, Tomb, Crypt, Trini, Cruci, Waste, Cruci.

My Turn 1: My first game on the play! Finally my sphere does something to stop her. I play the best sphere ever printed off a Shop.

Her Turn 1: She plays out Swamp and says go.

My Turn 2: I get just about the best top-deck this deck can get after turn 1 Trinisphere with Cruci in hand: SMOKESTACK. Players underrated this card horribly. It is still as powerful as it has ever been. I play out my Smokestack and say go. From here her outs have gone from slim to 0.

She doesn't see exactly how she is locked until a couple turns after Crucible comes out but after a factory hits the table some turns later with her sitting on an empty board. I realize now why Trinisphere was restricted. The card is pretty busted when you are on the play. Faaaarrr more game-ending than sphere of resistance.

So that was the match! I won 2-1 and am relieved to have gotten past the nightmare of Dark Times. It is a truly powerful deck and should not be shrugged off by so many top tier players as not a true contender. It has the tools to beat a lot of decks. Shops is just sort of its achilles' heel and I acknowledge that in my Victory.

Here is my list:

Nouveau Espresso

4 Mishra’s Workshop
4 Ancient Tomb
4 Wasteland
4 Mishra’s Factory

The ruling is the expansion symbol, so Chronicles cards count too.

There is no set expansion symbols in cockatrice. Each person will see whatever version they prefer.

I am interested to see the ruling on this aswell.

there is really only one way to deal with it: it only works for cards that are available only with the arabian nights expansion symbol.
for our intends and purposes that would most likely be Bazaar of Baghdad (as far as i can tell, the reason why the card is in the SB in the first place) and Library of Alexandria.

I beat Ray 2-0 but they were grueling 15+ turn marathons.  He mulled to 6 G1 and I got lucky with outs on G2.  Snapcaster was pretty spectacular.  I'm sure Ray will have more...

GAME 2 to come.  This chat log is longer than I thought.  Seeing fish beat ANT isn't interesting anyway.   Very Happy
Quick synopsis: I don't have any gas, just mana.  I rawdog Tendrils of Agony.  I get beaten down by a Tarmo and Edric for a few turns, but get close to just casting all my spells to win.  When I do go off, the turn before I would die it has to be completely unprotected, unfortunately he has the Mindbreak Trap for all of my Tendrils.  There is the possibility, I think, that I could have Chained his Edric the turn before trying to go off to deny him his last two cards, not sure if I still would have had sufficient storm if I did that.

GAME 3 to come.  This chat log is longer than I thought.  Seeing fish beat ANT isn't interesting anyway.   Very Happy
Quick synopsis: I mull to a hand of six containing three land, Top, Mystical and Imperial.  I play land pass to see what he does.  He breaks lotus to GSZ for CES.  What I do: Mystical for Ancestral.  ACall myself into junk (like... two more Gemstone Mines and a Silence).  Then I play Top, and herp-derp for a turn with Top.  What I should have done: mystical for Chain of Vapor, then Chain Selkie and Imp for Necro on my second turn.  Without the extra cards from exalted Selkie I'd be in much better shape to resolve Necro on turn three.

Also, because it came up at the end of the game: ALWAYS COUNTER NECROPOTENCE IF YOU CAN.

MY LIST

Black Lotus
Lion's Eye Diamond
Lotus Petal
Mana Crypt
Mana Vault
Mox Emerald
Mox Jet
1 Mox Opal
Mox Pearl
Mox Ruby
Mox Sapphire
1 Sensei's Divining Top
Sol Ring

Necropotence

3 Ad Nauseam
Ancestral Recall
Brainstorm
2 Cabal Ritual
2 Chain of Vapor
4 Dark Ritual
2 Mental Misstep
Mystical Tutor
4 Silence
Vampiric Tutor

4 Gemstone Mine
3 Polluted Delta
Tolarian Academy
4 Underground Sea

Burning Wish
Demonic Tutor
2 Duress
Imperial Seal
Merchant Scroll
Ponder
2 Preordain
Tendrils of Agony
Time Walk
Timetwister
Yawgmoth's Will

SIDEBOARD
2 Nihil Spellbomb

2 Chain of Vapor
2 Hurkyl's Recall
4 Surgical Extraction

1 Island

1 Empty the Warrens
1 Mind's Desire
1 Praetor's Grasp
1 Tendrils of Agony

LEARNINGS

I think ANT is underplayed right now.  The discussion of 'whether rituals are even a pillar anymore' got me thinking about what Ritual can do that Gush/Lotus Cobra can't do.  The key difference between Dark Ritual and Gush?  One costs  {B} while the other costs  {4} {U}.  Simply put, Gush cannot go into an Ad Nauseam deck, so I wanted to see what that deck looked like.  I found that:
-ANT is very fast, I had turn one/two kills, sometimes with protection (although, thin protection like an unsupported Silence).
-Burning Wish is good as a singleton, but it'd be difficult to build the deck around it.  I don't think this application of ANT+BW is sufficient threat to keep BW restricted.
-I like drawing upwards of seven cards at once.
-Timetwister probably doesn't belong in the maindeck.  It hurts as a three when revealed, and there's so much free countermagic going on now that casting it when your opponent hasn't been silenced and/or you don't intend to win that same turn is insane.  It probably belongs in the board to be fetched by BW in dire situations or against Dredge.
-Mana Vault doesn't belong, probably at all.  It was okay in an earlier version I had that was trying to play Tinker and Memory Jar (or briefly, Myr Battlesphere).
-Lion's Eye Diamond I can't quite get a grip on.  Sometimes it's completely useless, and sometimes you're cracking it to get the double blue to play Desire for fourteen out of the board... I'm not cutting it yet.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.

Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops.  I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

i got there 2-1 over DubDub and since im horrible at reporting its goes like this

game 1 he wins the roll its a quick land go for him then one from me then a ridiculous Ad Nauseam that he disconnects on while trying to resolve so he reconnects and since the match dropped we start over

game 1.5 he wins the new roll since we agree to a restart land go for a few turns then somethings get countered and Dub hits me with a silence proceeds to Ad himself to 6 and rip burning wish for his tendrils

game 2 i board like a n00b and proceed to draw go drop a goyf and some other simple things he rips my hand apart with duress and has me worried but i land edric and start drawing some cards i proceed to start beating him down as he does not a whole lot other then draw go i finally get him down to 6 after goyf and edric drawing me some nice things he attempts to storm out i drop the mindbreak trap on him and have flusterstorm backup

game 3 now that im boarded better i mull to 6 and its kind of ok i draw a lotus drop island lotus emerad crack and get Cold-Eyed Selkie with green sun's zenith he responds with a mystical for a-call he draws drops land a-calls and drop a Top ships it back i rip land a drop anothe GSZ this time for Noble Hierarch  swing and load up on some cards then its back to draw go as i beat in with selkie and reload my hand i waste his gemstone mine and pass he goes for necro with underdground sea time 2 and a new gemstone mine drops a necro i spell pierce it and have flusterstorm for some help and he says i got it and concedes says all he had was land and tutors and that was ll he was drawing so thats how it happened.

I'm sure my report isn't up to par but i like to play and keep mental notes on my own mistakes. thanks again to DubDub for fuckin my shit up with Ad Nauseam it was fun

Now for my next opponent and hopefully better plays on my part

Him: Play Tropical Island
Me:  Draw Mana Crypt.  Play Mana Crypt.  Add two.  Weld Crypt into Top.  Look at top 3.  Put Metamorph on Top.  Draw into it.  Play it.  He Brainstorms in Response.  It resolves.  I copy Welder.  EOT Nature's Claim my Chalice.

RIP Mogg Fanatic...at least you are still better than Fire Bowman!!!

I was once asked on MWS, what the highest I ever finished at a TMD Open was.  I replied, "I've never played in a Waterbury.  I was then called "A TOTAL NOOB!"

Well, that blew enormous chunks.  Commandant beat me 2-0.

G1: I lose the die roll and mull, finding 2x Oath, Emerald, Crypt, and a fetch.  Thought that was good because he appeared mana screwed.  I drop an Oath...and he rips Orchard.  Surprise! Mirror!  I don't have Orchard and lose quickly.  I maintain that dropping the Oath was the right play with the opponent showing a Sea since the Oath likely keeps Snapcaster, Bob, Trygon, and Vendillion off the table.

G2: I open Time Walk, 2x Orchard, land, Mox, Will, and I think FoW.  I draw mana, countermagic, one Nature's Claim, and Time Vault. Notice nothing to feed a Will, so I sandbag it.  Eventually we get to a point where I have 8 mana in play, 2x FoW, Mox Jet, and Nature's Claim in hand.  He had assembled Vault-Key earlier, but I stopped it with FoW (hardcast) + Mana Drain.  I let a Vampiric through in the hopes of hardcasting a FoW on whatever it finds, or better not caring what it finds since I draw something to feed my Will.   He baits with Ancestral, I FoW.  Turns out he had Ancestral, Will, Drain, Misstep, and FoW.  So, I was thoroughly boned in any case.  Flood is bad, kids.

The only thing I believe was a clear error was not boarding out Gaea's Blessing for Hurkyl's Recall.  Wouldn't have mattered...but still would have offered a defense against his winning play had I drawn it.
