Pretty cool. I like the soulbond mechanic -- if your bonded critter dies, just cast another one!
Also, I'm not reading this wrong, am I? Two Lookouts soulbonded with one another = 4 cards if both connect? Gravy.
They would both be "paired" at this point, so it would only be 1 card per hit.

I think I'm the only one who likes this dude because he plays nice with Skittering Skirge, inasmuch as he comes down t1 allowing you to play your t2 3/2 without worrying about him detonating out of jealosy when you cast another creature.
In seriousness, while this is not a bomb by any means, this is the best 1/1 flier for 1 printed so far. I did a quick gatherer search for natural fliers (thus ignoring Baloon Brigade, Putrid Imp, and other creatures that only sometimes fly) that cost 1, and here's what pops up.
MaximumCDawg qualified that out.

Second, in case your opponent has a blocker with toughness 2 or higher, this doesn't do any damage. Please clarify, why does it not do any damage? I thought it would infect a 2/2 creature with 2 counters (-1/-1) and then trample over 9 damage (poison counters) to the player. If you get hit with this is doesn't impact your actual life total, meaning that you can still use that as a resource provided you have a turn to your name (re: getting hit for Infect <10).

1 in every 720 packs...
I heard from a very reliable source that this number is about accurate. So what's the average print run of a set? ...and, given what we've seen so far, about what's the average value bump per pack?Someone math-ed the bolded out to be like 0.8-0.10 cents if thought about rationally. Of course that's a laughable disclaimer. In real-world terms, dealers all bumped boxes by 10-15 dollars after hearing the news. So something like 27 cents a pack bump. My local dealer won't sell boxes for less than $110.

Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [New Card Discussion] Sadistic Sacrament

Or instead of playing disruption, maybe we could look at Sacrament as the ultimate Doomsday. Doomsday + Gush -> win. Sacrament by itself -> win. Maybe just toss it directly into one of the old Doomsday builds in place of Doomsday and let Tendrils/EtW do what they do. I rocked the aggro and stax-heavy St. Louis meta with the deck.
I apologize in advance for not really understanding your argument here. On a good day with a Doomsday build, you cast DD and win either that turn or on the following turn with the combo. On a good day with Sacrament, you're eliminating key (pun unintended) components/win conditions. In the former you win immediately but, with the latter, you need additional plays to facilitate victory. Further, while a DD deck might have a chance of stealing an early win from an aggro deck, an early Sacrament could grab, what? Null Rod, Some of their 'Goyfs or disruptive creatures? Or the Bazaars in Dredge (provided they haven't aggressively mulled into them?) That amounts to a Time Walk for them. And, of course, if you're already playing combo (G1), then you're praying for the same aggressive combo draws as the DD player anyway. Now, the more I write - and check on T8s on Morphling.de - it does seem like a Sacrament would be really devastating to the general short-term metagame (my position comes from a very aggro-control oriented metagame.) Consider this T8 ( http://morphling.de/top8decks.php?id=1139) where every deck save for Bazaar would be rocked by an early Sacrament and, even then, you could cause significant damage to that Bazaar deck's game plan. So, somewhat reversing my initial idea, does the presence of Sacrament guarantee more aggro-oriented T8s?

Eternal Formats / Creative / Dredge Questions
|
on: September 14, 2009, 11:40:23 am

Good afternoon all, As part of my run to try and learn more about Vintage, I've been practicing with Dredge. The following list is proxied up from Mark Hornung's 1st place finish (for ref: http://morphling.de/top8decks.php?id=1123): 1 Black Lotus 1 Lotus Petal 1 Mox Jet 1 Mox Sapphire 4 Bridge from Below 4 Cabal Therapy 2 Golgari Thug 4 Ichorid 4 Putrid Imp 4 Stinkweed Imp 4 Breakthrough 4 Careful Study 2 Chain of Vapor 4 Force of Will 4 Narcomoeba 4 Golgari Grave-Troll 4 Bazaar of Baghdad 3 Cephalid Coliseum 3 City of Brass 2 Gemstone Mine I notice while playing a few things that are probably typical of a first time Dredge player and, thus, the wrong way to play the deck so I thought I'd ask for some evaluation and suggestions: * I find I aggressively mull for Bazaars and then play goldfish matches by activating Bazaar during my "opponent's" turn. The only exception to this is events in which I have amazing hands which allow me to, for example, Study and Breakthrough on the first turn with plenty of dredgers in hand. * I almost never have cards in hand save for the beginning of the round. By my second turn I've typically dredged away my Bazaar and Draw Step draws to fill my graveyard. * I seem to autopilot once I end up with sufficient Bridges and Ichorids in the graveyard. So, beyond evaluating these actions, am I playing the deck too aggressively? Should I be more discerning about using my Draw Step to activate dredgers? Are the Forces in the deck to prevent early combo and, thus, I should not worry too much about later game 0-card hands? Are there any powerful card interactions that I'm missing or is the deck really this straightforward? Many thanks.

Eternal Formats / Creative / Gifts Ungiven Guidance

I've recently gotten back into the Vintage scene in a generous proxy environment so I've decided to try my hand at Storm Combo. While I'm sure I've been playing the deck wrong in a number of ways, where I've been having the most difficulty is figuring out the best ways to play Gifts Ungiven.
That said, what are the best ways to play Gifts Ungiven with a U/B Tendrils combo framework (which precludes Recoup and Regrowth)? What are some traditional piles based on some typical/general game states which lead to the most success with this archetype?
Many thanks in advance to all who assist.

Steven, do you think this deck will be Tier 1 in the Vintage meta game?
Flash has, at this point, spawned two great looking decks and, with reference to the Cerebral Assassin comment, potentially several more. The Rector-Flash idea looks fantastic and is certainly more of a skill tester than the Hulk version (albeit not by much.) Why then is there so much uproar about this de-errata on the Source compared to the combination of the Mana Drain and the Mana Leak? Granted, there's little time before the GPT, and that seems enough to be annoyed, but there's little in the way of voiced concern about this card (re: BAN IT BAN IT!)
Simply put: why are people freaking out on the Source but not on the Mana Leak/Drain? (This isn't supposed to instigate us v. them rhetoric but apologies in advance if it does.)

It's a pretty random thought, but I've heard a lot of the Vintage players in my area getting back into Dragon combo decks. Is there a chance that such decks will start using this as a new, uncounterable win condition for the deck?
Duskmantle, House of Shadow Card Type: Land Tap: Add 1 to your mana pool. UB, Tap: Target player puts the top card of his or her library into his or her graveyard.
Or is the deck too tight as it is to risk using a win condition that also requires a land drop for the turn?
