Coming live from tourney wasteland!

This thread is dedicated to those moments that even the most elite players have where they make an error that is humorously scrubby.  I am not the most elite, but I have definitely had these so I will start:

At an 8 man tourney back in the Gush era...I am playing Flash with the Mogg Fanatic kill.  It is almost robotic since 90% of our field did not own force of wills.  I am paired versus elves (note, not Elves!).  I go off and deal "1 trillion points of damage to your face.". At this point opponent asks me if I am done?  I ask if opponent is kidding...opponent points to  Soul Warden elf that was the 1 drop on turn 1.

I once let a Yawgmoth's Will resolve when I had a Force and 5 mana untapped. I thought I only had 4 mana untapped.

Finals match in a mox tourney.  I was playing GRW Beats against Tezz.  The game was going pretty well, I had some board pressure and an Ancient Grudge in hand, I was set.  Until I completely punted by blowing up his two moxen in response to his Tezz.  Yeah, infinite turns later I was dead.  Sad

Round 3-4ish of Feinstein's last tournament, around turn 8, I cast gifts for a "winning pile" that worked off the back of Yawgmoth's and tendrils.  I neglected to notice or remember that my opponent resolved a Tormod's crypt on turn 1.

Yeah, I've Tinkered with my robot in the exile zone. I think I ended up getting Sensei's Divining Top instead. I'm sure there are countless other bonehead mistakes I've made over the years.

It was top 8  of a Bluebell tournament last year playing against a friend playing Tezz, I was on TPS. It was g3 and I have three colorless floating and 2 black, so 5 total mana. He has bob out, and I currently have enough storm to put him at 3 if I just cast the tendrils in my hand. Instead I try to up the storm by casting the Thoughtseize first using a black giving me one black 3 colorless in which I cant cast tendrils anymore. I scooped right there, it was pretty terrible.

Made a black white blue draft deck and forgot to add islands. I actually won a few games despite drawing alot of dead cards and all the time wondering "Where the hell are my islands?" until i finally picked up the deck and found out....Rather embarrasing.

Oh yeah, and once i went island, black lotus, standstill, standstill -_-

In top 8 of Feinstein's last tournament, I tutored for Diabolic edict to kill my opponents Iona instead of yawgs will to win the game

In top 4 of his tournament before that, I Cast gifts for what would be the game winning pile, only to realize I had no Black mana sources, and was promply Jester's Capped the turn after for all of my underground Seas

I made two horrendous misplays in the t4 of an event in Maine for a Black Lotus. I was playing Control Slaver against Nataz (Playing Fish). I won game 1, but in game 2 I lost to pitch casting FoW at one life. The really bad misplay came in game 3, was casting Yawgmoth's Will for the win and pitching my pentavus win condition to TFK forgetting that I had cast Yawgmoth's Will that turn. If I had won, Rich and I had already agreed to split in the finals.

I was pretty new to vintage at this time and inexperienced with the deck, but I beat myself up for a long time over that. I never made either mistake again.

I remember my first type1 tourney, I played TPS. My first opponent was a cute girl I had not seen at the shop before. She is on the play and starts with: swamp,DarkRit,DarkRit,Scroll rack,Hyppie. On my turn I draw Brainstorm. My hand was something like: Polluted Delta, chrome Mox,island, mystical tutor, demonic tutor, sensei's D. top, mana crypt and the brainstorm I drew. I drop island;SDT go. All I remember was that she went on to strip...my hand that is, with Hyppie.  Sad
Thats not it. Game two, she's on the draw and she has null rod and phyrexian negator on her first turn off DarkRits! All I recall from there was I attempt a turn two win thru yawgbargain card draw down to 5 life..tapped out, three mana floating from DarkRit, I play yawgWill. She asks if I win then we realize I had already played land for the turn and I had no other mana source in yard except the Rits I had played. One mana short, I was. Sad
I could not believe the mistakes I made through out that tourny. At some point in the tourney I went on cracking LED to try and play yawgWill from my hand. D'oh!
I stuck with TPS since then and learned the hard way. Wink

Played Horden Tendrils vs TPS at Ovinogeddon 2009, second round, third match. I am on the play, mulligan to 6.
My hand: U-Sea, Mox Emerald, Cabal Rit, LED, YawgWill, Desire
I do the math and for some reason fail to see how to Desire for 7 into a win. Play land-go.
Opponent plays Island, Mox Jet - go.
I draw another Mox, do the math again and realize how stupid I am. I try to go for the Desire, but in response to Will my opponent does Vampiric/Anc for Force.

One time, I opened a seven card hand with swamp/emerald/sol ring (this was back in the keeper/tnt/monoblue days). I said "keep," but upon further inspection it turns out that the swamp was actually my one basic forest, in a mostly-black deck.

At vintage worlds 2009, i'm 4-0 and up a game. Win this game and I'm in. I was playing some terrible UWB fae list that I threw together the morning of the event (no proxies = suboptimal deck, but it was similar to my ICBM open deck). It was due to my playing well that I started 4-0, not due to the deck. Every match was a battle. In this battle, I was vs 5c stax on the draw. I kept a hand of:
mox sapphire, disenchant, dark confidant, wasteland, delta, swords to plowshares, and something I'm blanking on or I mulliganed and only had six to remember.

he goes, workshop mox trinishphere. next turn, another workshop (i had wasted him) smokestax.

g3 I mulled to oblivion.

after the round I'm talking with friends, and they ask where I'm at (4-1, win and in) and how I like my t8 chances. I reply that of the X-1's, the only archetype that I am disfavored vs was SCV (then known as the 'demars project' to those of us out of the Meandeck loop) and that all the other players at x-1 haven't been playing great from the matches I've seen. Round 6 pairings go up, and I've got demars. I put up a good fight, but I split a FoF wrong and it cost me the match.

I would like to take back any of these incidents that led to me starting 4-0, getting 2 bubble rounds, and not making t8. The cruel god hand of the stax player in g2, the terrible luck I had in mulliganing g3, the bad pairing (there were no fewer than 5 good matchups at x-1) or the botched FoF. Any one of these would have been enough to take back, but the critical mass of all of them ruined my day.

I'd like to take back all the times I kept an opening hand with me thinking my Mishra's Factory was a Mishra's Workshop.  Sigh.  They simply look too much alike.  I love it when I play Factory / Metalworker and my opponent says "it costs three".

One game, in the top 8 I got flashed out.

Another game, in top 4, I got flashed out.

Jeremy Seroogy once had a case of retardidis, and flashed me out turn 2.

Come to think of it, I wish Flash never happened.  Anyone who played it needs to be kicked in the nuts.

Man do I have a few. I'm playing fish against combo back a few years. My opp casts a yawg followed by a mystical tutor. I look at the card and realize hey there's a colon that means its an activated ability. So in my drunken efforts I attempt to stifle the search ability on mystical tutor. Not only showing that I have a stifle but he then proceeds to say he wasn't going to duress me before he went off. Mystical tutors search ability is not a target for stifle Mr Hangley.

I once scooped after going turn 1 lotus crypt welder 3sphere mishras factory. Followed by a turn 2 crucible strip. I promptly dropped from the event and went home.

Day 2 at the Roanoke 2006 Power 9 I started 3-0 but then a series of misplays on my part ensure I didn't make Top 8. In round 4 I failed to tutor for Duress that would have allowed me to push Moat through against Dave Feinstein which he had no answer to game one. Then in the final round of swiss with a chance at 9th place and a Timetwister on the line I went to time with Travis. On the third extra turn Travis cast Tanglewire and passed. The board set up had him with 2 Cities of Brass, 2 other lands, 2 moxes, the Tanglewire, and 2 life. I had seven lands and an inconsequential Pithing Needle in play. I tutored EOT for Yawg. Will with Disenchant already in hand. On Turn 4 I tapped 3 lands and Needle to Tanglewire, cast Will, Lotus and Rack & Ruined from the yard taking out his two moxes, played a land from the yard, played a Divining Top for some unknown reason and passed the turn with only one mana available. We drew.

Fours hours later during the car ride home I realized if I had kept up the mana for Disenchant and targeted Tanglewire with its triggers on the stack turn 5 Travis would've had to tap both Cities and lost. Lots of cursing on that car ride home. Lots.
