I love everything that Cake has made. My favorite songs of theirs are Jolene, Shadow Stabbing and I Bombed Korea if I had to pick 3. You'll never be able to pidgeonhole them into a genre, the closest I ever got was alt-country.
I have heard them described as "ironic rock", whatever that means... Also, I forgot Jet - Get What You Need

Sevendust - Trust Queens of the Stone Age - First It Giveth Our Lady Peace - Whatever Stuck Mojo - Propaganda Foo Fighters - Everlong Killswitch Engage - Breathe Life Everlast (feat. Carlos Santana) - Babylon The Offspring - The Kids Aren't Alright Green Day - Give Me Novacaine As for Cake: Try Dime or Italian Leather Sofa... if you don't like those, you should probably stick to the radio releases - The Distance (which always makes me rock out), Sheep Go To Heaven, and Never There. Also Rich, I had a feeling you had already crammed a bunch of Disturbed on these CDs, so I didn't mention those gems.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Article] The Anatomy of a Vintage Team
|
on: January 28, 2005, 01:53:47 pm

Oh, and on a sidenote, I'd imagine the reason it's hard to find teams in vintage is due to the fact that a lot of people play this format for fun. You'd be hard pressed to find people in places like Montana, Michigan, or Kansas who own power within a 50 mile radius.
We don't have proxy tournies in KC... so everyone who plays with any kind of seriousness has it all.

Prelude
Pairings go up. I have that nervous jittery feeling, but it's that good nervous jittery feeling, like "Alright, time to fucking pwn" and not like "Oh shit, I forgot that project was due today." HAHAHAHA, nice wordage. That has earned the spot of "third funniest thing I have read on TMD". Prelude
Round 7 vs. Jared (a different Jared). Game One: first turn kill. I have no idea what he's playing, since I won the die roll. Game Two: first turn kill. Oh shit. I can only imagine the feeling of getting first-turned twice in a match. Entertaining report, as always. Question though: do you keep your id in someplace other than a wallet?

Eternal Formats / Creative / Is ww playable as a strong hate deck
|

This deck is really fun to play. Props to Bebe and\or his team. I've played about 20 games with it, and I like serenity in the board over aura of silence. I think if the intent of the aura is to hurt artifacts, I would rather play something that killed all of them in play rather than hindering them or killing one. If the intent of aura is to hurt oath, I would use seal of clensing \ disenchant or kami (which has good synergy with the vials). The difference between casting it turn 1\2 vs. the aura's turn 2\3 is not a small matter. You can easily make the comparison of playing a serenity t2 and waiting until t3 for it to work and playing the aura t3 and popping it to kill something. To clarify; IMO, serenity is better vs. an artifact field, and seal \ disenchant \ kami is better vs. oath. I think the deck has enough hate cards maindecked that you can choose a specific matchup you want to help with the sideboard cards, and thus should choose the ones that are better for that matchup even if they are worse in the other. This deck is much easier to play when you know what your opponent is playing; if a person were to take this to a tourney, they would be best served scouting well or enlisting the help of teammates. I hope this was coherent. EDIT: Kami isn't Monk Realist. D'oh.

Kudos to everyone for keeping a discussion about music flame-free. Talking about music on the internet seems to draw flames like abortion and politics. If I must pick 3... Sevendust - Trust: From their album called Animosity, this song rocks. I'm always in a mood to listen to Sevendust. Killswitch Engage - Breathe Life: I heard this song from the UFC's Greatest Hits Vol. 1, which is basically a compilation of music to listen to while beating the piss outta someone. Everlast featuring Santana - Babylon: I've always liked Everlast's growly voice... and Santana is the fucking man. It can be found on Everlast's CD called "Eat at Whitey's". Note: I love Jay-Z and like the bands he has done these strange mix pieces with. I loathe the combinations... they just sound absolutely terrible to me.

Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Least favorite card

JDizzle inspired me to make this thread. I was thinking about my favorite cards to use, and my brain wandered to the cards I loathe.
So... cards I hate.
[card]Plow Under[/card] - This card makes me want to murder the caster in front of their mother. [card]Mana crypt[/card] - Not only is this a promo card that must be a staple in many decks, it has a fucking coin flip on it. [card]Naturalize[/card] - Thanks Wizards, way to take away just about the only thing White mages have going for them. Disenchants are fine for green... as long as they have a power and toughness.

I didn't say anything about prize splitting. I regularly prize split. I said I was disappointed in the amount of scooping done. I would have liked to see who won these matches.
Stop puting your fucking words in my mouth.

Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Quiacatl's Champion (former Quetzalcoatl)

Quetzalcoatl (in Mayan culture) was also a god of death and rebirth... analogus to the whole phoenix legend we are more familiar with. I would picture Quetzalcoatl as a Shard Phoenix, actually. Or at least a red creature.
EDIT: What I'm trying to say is that I disagree with the whole flavor the original card has...

It's also good to keep in mind that cold hard data isn't immune to being colored by personal perceptions... when you believe in an idea, the evidence may "support" you regardless of what it actually is. Anyone who writes an article already has an opinion, it's just a matter of whether it is apparent or not.
Lies, damn lies, and statistics, or something.

I haven't ever played with intuition in this kind of deck... guess I'll have to throw it together and test a bit.
What is your rationale for the shivan reef over another fetch?
By the way - the Mana Drain needs more thought out posts like this one. Good post Elric.

The pussification of America has been going on for a long time. I'm only 20, but when I was in 6th grade (1996), we were told we could no longer play Tag at recess because it was "too dangerous". I called bullshit even then - although not in those words. Rough play builds character, dammit. Remember when you got hurt playing a sport and everybody was impressed at how awesome your wound was bleeding rather than concerned about your welfare? Remember when people were accountable for actions they did and couldn't blame movies? Sigh... /end rant
